Editorial review from Citysearch 2/18/2013

Yes, it can be a little pricey but you get what you pay for and they do offer days when shots are deeply discounted. As far as I'm concerned, Dr. Lomond is without a doubt the kindest, most animal friendly vet I've known and I've had animals all of my life. Dealing with vets has not always been a pleasure. Her wisdom and knowledge is unsurpassed and she'll discuss your situation for as long as it takes for you to understand it. I can't imagine anyone else other than the caregivers at this location(can't speak for the other locations) caring for my ""little ones"". The front desk is super busy dealing with hysterical customers with very sick pets, but they've always been great with me so if one of them lost their cool, as stated below, cut them a break! They are doing the best the can. And trust me. If these guys weren't doing a great job, I'd be all over it! more

Dr Chen is an excellent doctor. She is intuitive and problem solving. We've had other Vets at this hospital and some are better than others, but Dr. Chen is a standout. more

disappointing receptionists 8/11/2011

We were politely asking questions about our pet's medicine when out of nowhere, the girls we were talking to rolled their eyes right infront of us. It was totally uncalled for. Fortunately, our pet has already been checked so we immediately left in pure displeasure. more

Competent, but very expensive and commercialized 12/24/2008

I switched to this vet after mine relocated. So here's the good news - I think they are quite competent clinically. But the problem with VCA Miller is that they are very expensive and have rigid processes that they require, that cost you even more money. Very commercialized! Here's some specifics:\r \r 1. I gave full history and had my dog examined by a vet. I went over his medications (heartworm and eye drops) so that I could get my refills when due. They didn't mention at the time that this was not sufficient!\r \r 2. His needed a refill on his eye drops. They refused to refill as they were originally prescribed by another vet. They say it's a legal requirement. If so, when I saw my vet in the lobby and she looked at his eye briefly (just a little goopy) wouldn't that be enough? If not, maybe she could take him in a room for 2 min to look more closely? That would be okay too, but no - I had to make an appointment for a more formal (and costly!) examination before they would dispense a refill on medication.\r \r 3. I had already paid over $500 in examination, urine test and antibiotics for a urinary tract infection. After 2 days and a completed 2 week course of antibiotics he was 100% fine. $500 for an exam and tests and a course of antibiotics??? Based on my last vet, this is very expensive.\r \r 4. I also had a prior $100+ charge for exam and stool culture before they would continue with his heartworm medicine. Apparently another legal requirement that lets them charge inflated prices for simple everyday needs. (is it really a legal requirement? 'cos the internet searches I did said not all vets require that if treatment has been continuous) \r \r My advice would be to find a vet that cares about your animal first, and make fair and appropriate levels of revenue. You want them to charge reasonable prices for good care, not recommend or require costly exams or tests in order to maximize their profit. Pros: Clinically competent Cons: Overpriced, very commercialized, rigid processes cost you even more more

BURNED MY PET 11/22/2008

I have been going for years and my vet left and a new vet who has an english accent is an idiot who acts snobby. He's quite intimating. My dog needed her teeth cleaned and I paid about $250 for blood testing to make sure she could be put under, as she is older and was born very premature. When I picked her up there were and still are three burns along her side. They suggested it may have been the heating pad but "whose to know" and refused to reimburse for the blood work, procedure, visit to check the burn scare THEY ARE AWFUL AND DOCTOR WILLA.... IS SCAREY. DO NOT GO HERE MY PET WAS BURNED ON THE OPERATING TABLE. more

Will try to screw you out of as much $$$ as possible 10/25/2008

I've been taking my dogs there for a few years. Mostly for vaccines, but this place has been steadily declining in the past couple of years or so. The front desk staff are constantly distracted, they keep charging you for things you didn't authorize -- one of their favorites is to charge you full price for a vaccine because your pet is due, even though a low-cost vaccine fair is coming up. Always double check your bill because sometimes they charge you for things you didn't get. \r \r Anyway, I took my terrier for a physical exam and because she had a couple of tiny little bumps that looked like zits to me, they told me it could be cancer so they had to biopsy. Of course in the end it was nothing, except for all the money I had to pay including some tests they messed up. \r \r Now today I took my dog in for allergies and the British doctor tells me that she's got a heart murmur and we have to do a bunch of expensive tests. I've decided these people have screwed me out of enough $$, so I'm getting a second opinion on the heat murmur or risk having them put my dog through surgery or something. \r \r Anyway, I could go on with a lot of little things like missing appointments, rude and distracted staff, test results that take forever, or that sometimes never come unless you actually call and ask, etc. In the end please go somewhere else. Pros: They have free(though cheap) dog treats on the counter Cons: Too expensive and on the incompetent side more

PLEASE don't do it!!! 10/17/2008

I have never in my life actually taken the time to write a review, but after taking my dog to this place for years and initially being happy with their service, I have watched all of the wonderful, caring doctors disappear- the staff will never tell you where they have gone! The best vet of all time, Dr. McMillian, retired and this place has declined rapidly since then! The remaining doctors are apathetic, incompetent, and always looking for a way to con you out of money with tests, etc... Steer clear of Dr. Willoughby at all costs, just as other reviewers here have warned. He told me my dog needed surgery when a second opinion revealed that the ""mysterious bump"" under my dog's chin was nothing more than the equivalent of an age spot on a senior citizen (my dog is 20). You and your pet deserve better- this place will disappoint you! Pros: proximity, place is sanitary Cons: doctors aren't caring, gouge you, parking lot is tiny more

Not great! 10/2/2008

I had gone here for 10 years and stopped going. The vets continuosly leave so you never know who you're going to see. My cats were diagnosed with various ailments and with their treatment continued to get worse. I finally took my cats health into my own hands, did research and nursed back to health. When I tried to tell the vet what I had done thinking that she might be interested as her treatment had no effect, she wasn't. more

Never Again 4/25/2008

I've taken two pets here a number of times each, and though I did get a good and thoughtful vet twice, a young woman who I believe was early in her career, I have to say that I will never go back after my last visit in which an arrogant and imperious englishman snapped at me (at the end of a visit that cost around $600 though he couldn't really identify the problem), telling me that if my cat didn't get better on his own I would HAVE to bring him back to be sent out for intense, multi-thousand dollar investigative medical procedures. He is the one who told me that it would be multi-thousands of dollars, so this is not an exageration brought about by my intense dislike of the man. I should have been warned years earlier when one of the vets failed to diagnose distemper in my puppy, which went blind and had to be put down. There are probably some good vets working here but I will never go back. Pros: Occasional good vet Cons: Ineptitude combined with Very high prices more

Over Priced and Incompetent 4/24/2008

This place is just the worst! The vets are constantly changing - so no kind of consistent care for your pet. They are extremely expensive and fraudulent too! They charged me for services and products that i never bought and I was always catching them at this! They misdiagnosed my dog - over medicated my other dog. Stay away!!! more

Great staff, excellent care 4/22/2008

It's hard to believe some of the negative reviews are for this same place. I have had nothing but excellent care for my two cats and two dogs. The entire staff from the front desk to the techs, nurses, and vets are competent, friendly, and polite. The facility is immaculate, parking is convenient (and free), and I have never had to wait for my scheduled appointment. Pros: Convenient location, parking, nice facility, open 7 days a week Cons: VCA corporate conformity more

VCA Miller-Robertson Kills 2/7/2008

I've lost two pets under VCA Miller-Robertson vets. I cannot stress enough how important it is that you are reading this review and take me seriously. The people who work behind the counter have never once had my papers in order, write notes on the wrong pet's papers, once gave me the wrong medicine (!!!), and after leading my cat to a POINTLESS surgery that cost $2000 and actually ended her life instead of helping her, they still send me postcards that she's due for her shots... 4 years later. I've made it a game to call every time I get one and remind them that my cat is dead, thanks to them. They still send them. I've seen a few different vets there, and two of them have wrongfully diagnosed my animals! The last time I was there, I was suckered into paying over 100 dollars for a test I knew my cat didn't need and the doctor ""never got the results back."" Completely disorganized and unprofessional, it's amazing they got a medical degree. When my dog was in a ""fatal accident"" there for negligence of a previously noted allergy, I tried to take legal action, but as you can imagine, animals don't have rights like people do. So all I can do is write this review and tell people not to go to VCA... THIS IS VCA MILLER-ROBERTSON. I honestly cannot speak for any other branch. Pros: Location Cons: Everything about this place more

The V.C.A. Veterinary Hospital, Rosecrans Ave. La Mirada, CA. 1/1/2008

The V.C.A. veterinary Hosp. Rosecrans Blvd.I wish I had read your reviews months ago! This is a VCA in La Mirada, CA. where I took my cats to be treated, 1) for an eye infection and the other for 2) a urinary tract infection. First off they lost the cats chart and the staff appears to have no clue what is going on. Second, they always want at least 500.00 for anything. (My neighbor had the same expiences I have had) Third, they kept my cat all day just to get a urine specimun and stabbed her numerous times in the bladder then complained when she urinated on the table?? They did not want me present for any procedures?? I did n't get to speak to a vet for over a week after my cat was seen and released by a ""tech"". I called for a liquid as the pills were so lhard I couldn't even smash them to get them down my cat. They wouldn't give my the meds and waited until an hour before closing to call me back on my SECOND call to them in two days. They didn't even answer the first call. Just totally incompetent staff. I heard a lady complaining that they had fed her dog 40 lbs of dog food in two weeks, she stated he normally eats about 5 to 7. If you value your pet, stay away!! Pros: clean Cons: incompentent staff and not allowing owners to view procedures more

Lost all their good vets! 12/12/2007

I don't know what happened here but all the good vets left. Everytime our dogs bond with someone they are gone. The staff seems miserable and it is embarrassing to watch the head receptionist yell at and abuse her staff. We won't be going back here anymore. more

Vets to the Stars 8/8/2007

The doctors here are wonderful!!! I have been taking my cats here for years. I just had my cat neutered this week (it was less than $200 so I'm not sure what that other review is talking about). They are caring, accessible, and whenever I have called with a question for the vet, they always call me back the same day. They are always very busy and seem to have a lot of ""high end"" clientele. Several times I have seen celebrities in the waiting room. They still make me feel like my cats are VIPs, though, and that's what matters to me. Pros: brilliant vets, caring nurses, open 7 days a week Cons: very busy, front staff can be rude more

Exceptional Vets! 8/2/2007

We love our vet here. She is so compassionate, thorough, always takes her time with us and answers all our questions. We had been to 4 other vets including a vet dermatologist, but none of them could get Barkley's skin rashes under control until we met Dr. Revel. The nurses were also very nice and seemed to geniounely care about our pets. The front staff is hit or miss, but it is worth it to get the excellent care they offer. more

Hard to even give one star 7/3/2007

Do not take your pets here. I took two cats in for a general check-up. They did not have an appointment time for both cats and to fit them in, I had to leave the animals and pick them up later. When I returned in the afternoon I took both kitties home. The younger one, who was only 2 years old, collapsed and died as soon as she was out of the carrier. When I called VCA MR in a panic they told me to take the cat to a different hospital because they were closing in 5 and had turned the registers off. Later, VCA paid for a necropsy and cremation but had the work done by one of their private labs. A second opinion from another vet made it clear this was entirely unethical. I fought VCA for a long time, they are criminals. They could kill your pets. Avoid them at all costs. more

pretty much nothing but criminal and negligent 7/3/2007

Please avoid this vet, they are negligent and criminal. I took two cats in for a general check up and shots. Because the receptionist had mistakenly marked an appointment for one cat, I had to leave the animals and pick them up 3 hours later. After leaving the hospital with both cats in tow, and clean bills of health for each, I arrived home and let them out of their carriers. 15 minutes later the youngest, 2 years old, collapsed and died instantly. I panicked (not knowing if she was having a seizure or what) and VCA-MR told me they were about to close, I should take my cat somewhere else. I did, but she was DOA. VCA paid for a necropsy. I had a second vet give their opinion on the results. That doctor noted that a sister company of VCA did the labwork, an entirely unethical move. I tried to address my concerns with VCA Corporate for a year, but never got a response or any respect...other than paying for the cremation of my pet, and then mixing her up with another animal on the day I came to take her remains home. It was a horrible experience, I wouldn't wish it my worse enemy--don't put yourself or your loved ones at risk. Pros: if they hurt your pet they'll pay for the cremation Cons: they'll hurt your pet more

How many ways can you be gouged? 6/26/2007

How much do you think it should cost to neuter your cat? My cat is about 6 months old, completely healthy and needed to be neutered. I contacted VCA Miller-Robertson Animal Hospital on Melrose in West Hollywood to get an estimated cost for the procedure. The figure I had in mind must have been for a toenail trim not a cat neuter. I was quoted $465.81 to $565.81. My father's advice, and keep in mind he's a hick from Montana, was to buy a pair of work boots that fit us both. Needless to say, with anesthesia, my cat was neutered somewhere else. Cons: very, very expensive and placed on hold every time I called. more

People are incompetant 5/10/2007

I've never had a good experience at this vet. They've misdiagnosed my cat several times, and had me pay 2000 bucks for an unecessary surgery that ultimately killed her. 3 years later, they still get her papers confused with my other cat's. They still send me post cards that she's due for shots. And I've been in 3 times where I've seen them physcially make a note that she's dead. They are so disorganized and cold. I recommend looking elsewhere. more
