Rude and Costly! 2/29/2012

I have been here a few times. The vet techs are not nice and a bit rude. I don't know why they have kept a few of the girls who have been there so long. They are snobby and rude! This place also costs a arm and a leg! Unless you are close its a real emergancy DO NOT GO HERE!! more

You get what you pay for 4/19/2011

Since February of 2010 when my horse almost died of colic, I take all of our animals to Loomis Basin for emergency and routine care. I expect emergencies to occur with an animal and plan ahead by ensuring I have health insurance or I save money aside so I can afford to pay for emergencies if they arise. That is my obligation to my animal family members, otherwise I should find them a better owner. I went into human medicine to help people, but I also expect fair compensation for my hard work. I expect the same of any professional in the animal medical field. I compared prices and found Loomis Basin prices to run in the upper middle range for local vets. I LIKE the environment and medical staff better than anywhere else I've been. I don't think they would have the exemplary medical staff or the beautiful facility if their prices ran on the lower end of the local price range. A facility that charges more equals higher staff wages equals attracting the most knowledgeable doctors and acqu more

LBVC quality care, finacial rape 2/14/2011

I live right around the corner from LBVC and wish I could just take the pets here for all of their stuff. The staff has always been helpful and courteous. The doctors are extremely knowledgable and competent. The only complaint I have about this place is the price. Its waaaay overpriced. For this very reason we have had to find a vet in Roseville to treat our little guys. The prices quoted are almost never the prices charged. Being unemployed I had 2 emergencies, one where the dog survived, one where the dog needed putting down. The second one was actually a great experience despite the dog dying, the doctor took pitty on my financial situation and charged me next to nothing along with follow up calls & letters. This unfortunately is not the norm for LBVC and all my other experiences for the past 18 years have been good quality wise but a financial rape otherwise. \r \r The second emergency, I was quoted $250 for treatment and after I picked her up was asked to pay $700 plus bring her ba more

Love the Convenience and Care 12/27/2010

Loomis Basin Equine Veterinarians are very helpful and knowledgeable. They care about the horses and give 100%. Since I live in the Loomis area, I love that there is an ICU for equines nearer than UC Davis. In the past that was the only choice. I had a premature warmblood foal born the spring of 2010 that was kept in their ICU for a week. It was nice to be able to visit him whenever I wanted. They saved his life and he is now a healthy beautiful yearling colt. more

The Money PIT 11/19/2010

PLEASE go somewhere else. I have had problems with this Vet Clinic in the past. My horse coliced and the vet walked into my pasture and before she even looked at the horse declared we needed to rush the horse to their surgery and have a $5,000 operation. \r \r I told the vet that she just needed to put mineral oil in the horse and she would be fine in the morning. The vet persisted and finally I said I would pay nothing unless she did the oil treatment. She relented and charged me $350.00, a real high charge for this service. \r \r The next day the horse was fine.\r \r I have friends, RICH ones, that go there and always get at least a $1,000 or more bill. more

Should be called Loomis Basin $$$$$ Clinic 11/17/2010

I will never return to this clinic again. I brought my dog in with a cough, 2 x-rays later and sedation to look down his throat they sent me home with kennel cough meds! Over $500 to diagnose my pet with kennel cough. They are only interested in racking up the bill and less interested in the patients care. I took my dog to Willow Rock Pet Hospital today and walked out with a bill for $53.06 which included two medications. The anti-cough medicine was $5.56 which Loomis Basin Charged me last month $35.00! Save your self some time and money and go some where else!! more

Rating -3 "Where Your Money Is Our Concern" 4/16/2010

As a long time "animal parent" in the area, I have had many trips to Loomis Basin (small animal clinic) over the years (having personally "contributed" a minimum of $30,000 to this clinic).I have experienced the ongoing shift from the clinic's advertised quote of "Where Your Pet is Our Concern" to "Where Your Money is Our Concern". The clinic's blatant obsession with money instead of sincere animal care is a very scary thought considering the number of animals it sees 24/7. I am sure that there are many vets there that are very skilled, however, our precious loved ones are never taken there to be viewed with $$$ sign hanging around their collars. It is extremely sad that a clinic that has the potential to offer so much to the community (and receive back so much more besides just money) has dropped to such a low level.Especially at a time of economic need for so many pets and people. Unfortunately for Loomis- there are many talented and caring vets in the area that actually care more more

animal lover 3/3/2010

Same experience as some. It's all about the money. Drs were horrible! Money was the whole focus! My dog and I were both treated with disrespect.\r I will never return to Loomis and recommend all critters stay away from this facility and the Drs! \r And shame on any vet that refers to this place! \r I too would give them a ZERO if I could!\r And no, I don't want to hear how they would like to discuss this with me now.\r Actions speak louder than words and this is a small community! more

A Well-Oiled Money Machine First, A Veterinary Clinic Second 11/11/2009

Competent staff and quality facilty, but unfortunately there is a ridiculously obvious focus on one thing - profit. From the time you walk in, they can barely contain their obsession with securing finances, getting authorization for future charges, and god forbid your dog must stay overnight, the billing is truly creative. A very transparent attempt to feign an altruistic concern for the animal, but a classic money pit. Stay away! more

Loomis Basin Veterinary Clinic is Excellent. 10/26/2009

I am quite sorry for those expressing dificulties with Loomis Basin Vet. Clinic. They stood by me in both good times and bad. I have moved out of state, and wish I could find a group as good as Loomis Basin. more

Not the clinic but some of the workers 10/8/2009

.My husband and I got a puppy that was about 15wks old. We were told that she had all her shots. With in 24 hours she was dying from parvo. We took her to Loomis that night. I don?t recall the vets name but he was really nice. He gave us our options and told us that the parvo was too far-gone. We had to put her to sleep. A week later we did get a sympathy card in the mail singed by the vet himself with a note. We did get another pup a month later and took him every month for her shots. The lady that saw us the first 3 times did act like she would rather be somewhere else. I asked if I could have the doctor that saw us with our first pup they said they would have to schedule those appointments due to him being one of the best there (as in bed side and everything) I don?t think its the clinic I think its some of the people that happen to work there. I think they should call on all references. These are not just animals but our kids more

Dr. Cherrstrom Is The Best! 9/30/2009

We used to take our dogs to Dr. Cherrstrom when we lived in the area, but we've since moved away and Dr. Cherrstrom has retired. I'm not sure what they're like nowadays, but we've had nothing but good experiences with Loomis Basin in the past. more

Loomis Basin Veterinary Clinic is wonderful 9/17/2009

This hospital is by far and away the pet place to take your pet!!! Not only are their prices very reasonable for shots, but surgeries as well (trust me, I did my shopping). My dog Toby and I will never try another vet clinic again. Thank you Dr. Hess. more

The best equine clinic around 8/29/2009

The best, most caring equine doctors you will ever meet. I cannot say enough about the personalized, quality care that my horse and I got beginning with the receptionists at the front desk and continuing all the way through the technicians and doctors. Love this place. more

Loomis Basin Veterinary Clinic is only about $$$$$$ 6/21/2009

The only reason I give this practice a one-star rating is because there is no way to give them a zero; furthermore, I think some of these rave reviews were written by employees coerced into doing so by their employer! Every medical practice is a business; however, this clinic is FIRST a business and, only secondarily, a medical practice. I took my pet to this clinic because my vet referred them for a procedure he could not perform out of his office. I am disabled, and on a fixed income, but my pet is my only friend in the world--I do not place a price on his head. However, I am also an honest person, and explained that as this was an emergency and on a weekend (how inconsiderate of my little friend), my financial situation was not such that I was carrying the $1500-$3200 estimate on my person and would require making arrangements. I was advised that FIRST, I would have to make a $1000 deposit before he would even be admitted, and, SECOND, would be required to pay the balance on disc more

Wonderful and caring staff, gorgeous facility 4/24/2009

Had an 11 y.o. pug who had recurring cough due to irritation from breathing tube from surgery done in October 08. We dealt with this by medicating sporadically. By March, we moved to this area and of course upon arrival, cough worsened and I had her seen at Loomis Basin on a Sat. afternoon. Dr. Claire Hardy was our vet and she assessed Pipi gently and after I shared with her our situation (new to area, no job for me yet=limited finances) she put forth her opinion and our options nonjudgementally and thoroughly. We ended up doing a few chest xrays and putting her on an antibiotic and a different cough suppressant. This was in the neighborhood of $250 with the xrays costing the most. At the time her surgical site showed the possibility of tumor reemergence and by the end of April it was twice the size as it was when we had it removed in Oct. Due to her age and other factors, we deemed it time to put her down and made the appointment. We requested Dr. Hardy and I took her in. All staff th more

My sick dog. 12/26/2008

After spending over $1300 on two over vets to tell my they have no idea what was wrong with my amstaff. I went to Loomis with my Bully. He had not eaten in 10 days and when he did it all came back up. I took him in and after they got him stable they found out the cause fast. Aftert he surgury to remove large peice of corn on the cob. Bully made a full recovery. Loomis billwas less then $1800. So I'm the end you get great expert service at Loomis. I just got a new puppy for Christmas and we have a appiontment today. If you truelly care about your pet and want the best care, make the drive. It may save their life. It did for me and my family. more

Unprofessional and Condescending- Find another!! 11/20/2008

We took our lab to Loomis Basin because her chest was enlarged and she was having trouble breathing. Immediately our vet accused us of abusing her! After two surgeries later, it was discovered that she had inhaled a fox tail and her lung was leaking air into her chest cavity. Frankly, we have stuck with this clinic despite the poor bedside manner and unprofessional customer service, but have finally decide to go elsewhere because our vet is consistently rude and condescending. There are other great vets in town- look around! more

The absolute best in this area 7/23/2008

IF you ever need a Vet at anytime emergency or annual check-ups I suggest Loomis Basin Vet. I got out of there under $300 and a better baby. They truly care about your furry child and will do everything they can to calm you and they make sure that you know exactly what is going on. I WILL be taking both Shadow and Gizmo there from now on without hesitation. My dog Gizmo started throwing up Bile and went extremely weak after I took him to the VCA clinics where they didn't do anything with him and charged me up the wazoo. I was in shambles and tried calling SPCA and humane society and they said unless I surrender him they couldn't help. I called Loomis after that and they told me to bring him in right away. I was there until the early morning while they did everything they needed to and now he is back to walking around and being the tail wagger he is.They definitely have a new client in me and I am telling everyone else about them too more
