Editorial review from Citysearch 10/14/2013

This place is so great! My favorite Asian market for sure!\r \r I love going there whenever I can, because they carry pretty much anything you could want. Not just Japanese food, but a really good variety. The place looks and smells clean, everything is well organized, and the staff is nice. I love that they carry not just great food, but lots of other stuff too, like laquered chopsticks, tea sets, little knick knacks... They even have a bookstore in the back. The bookstore is so awesome, they carry lots of import anime and manga that is hard to find elsewhere except online. I feel like I could spend the entire day in there. Seriously, this place is not just a grocery store, it's a destination.\r \r Only downside is that it can be a bit pricey. And they used to carry my favorite kind of onigiri, but they discontinued it a while back. But the rest of this place is so great, it more than makes up for it! more

Raw oyster deal 5/13/2009

I recently bought 3 doz raw oysters there for grilling and about 1/3 of them turned out bad. They cost $6.99/doz Pros: There are oysters Cons: They may be dead awhile in that tank more

Great store - so what's up with the deli? 3/12/2009

Uwajimaya as a store really is an amazing place. The selection is second to none, and there's the sushi retaurant Hakatamon (much, much better than the previous place Sambi, thank goodness) and the Japanese bookstore. I work near Uwajimaya and walk over often. Pros: Groceries, meat counter, seafood counter, kitchen stuff, housewares, bookstore, stationary, Hakatamon Cons: the deli more

some good fresh fish-tuna 1/17/2009

yes you have to drive a half hour to it from portland because you cannot find a big selection of whole fish in this town, but actually i got so lucky to get a freshly cut piece of sushi grade tuna, cut right off the intact 150 pound fish for me, right in front of my eyes, my that was so good as sashimi Pros: fresh whole fish Cons: no good smoked salmon more

GREAT PLACE FOR ASIAN FOOD! 8/28/2003

This store carries most of the Asian foods for Koreans, Chinese, and Japanese people. The produce and seafood is high quality and the rest of the products are good also. The prices are a bit spendy, but it's definitely worth it for higher quality products. The lines go very quickly and the workers are very helpful. Pros: Helpful staff, Quick service, Great quality Cons: A bit spendy more

GREAT ASIAN MARKET! 7/15/2003

This place has lots of different items for different ethnicities. I was surprised to see the range of diversity of consumers within this store. It makes me happy that so many cultures can share a space like this and have the close-knit relationship with one another. The price is a bit spendy here, but the quality is better than most and makes every shopping trip worthwhile! Pros: Good quality, Culture fusion, Great parking Cons: Crowded, A bit expensive, Limited Korean items more

Try the restaurant - Sanbi 1/19/2003

I have to drive an hour from Salem to get the selection they have. Tried the restaurant and was pleased with the food and prices. Tried the striped bass sushi for the first time and it was delicious once you get past the slightly tough skin. Two people and a beer for $15; nice dinner. Pros: Value, Selection, Freshness Cons: Location, Signage, Advertising more

A fun find 7/18/2002

Discovered Uwajimaya two years ago and have loved it ever since. Prices are a little high (though nothing compared to Japan). Book store is a wonderful find (especially for manga nuts). Highly recommend it. Pros: good selection, friendly people Cons: not cheap more

It's like a Japanese ""Costco!"" 7/17/2002

From fresh sushi to imported stationary, movies, and books, Uwajimaya has the best selection of any Japanese- import store I've ever shopped at in my life! Some of the items are a little pricy (a *lot* pricy if you visit the bookstore), but the service and atmosphere are great. If you're into Japanese culture or food, this is definetely where you want to be. Pros: Good parking, Great food, Good selection Cons: Not inexpensive, Few locations more
