My partner and I got a Scout Mob deal on massage services at Urban Body Studios, and I scheduled an appointment with Tai, who was one of the massage therapists participating. I ...

I couldn't agree more with dianskrit!!! I had the displeasure of taking an ashtanga class here. It's more of the same ashtanga style as anywhere else in the world. The teacher ...

Lovely studio with nice facilities 5/4/2007

I have had a postive experience at this studio. I have taken the Bikram yoga classes and some of the Pilates classes. This a great studio to have in a great neighborhood. There are many classes to choose from and I have not attended many of them. I was able to feel very comfortable here and the facilities(showers and changing area) were nice to have available and in good condition. Overall good experience with this studio and classes offered. more

best pilates, yoga okay 5/4/2007

I travel for work and have taken yoga and pilates from most of the major studios in Atlanta and around the country, so I am a bit of a critic. \r \r The yoga program is a bit random as whether I'm gonna have a good class or not. Good class means that I learn something about my yoga practice and feel challenged. The best instructor has been a guy named Robert Joiner who teaches the Correlation yoga. It is a challenging class and he has great instruction. I would go more often if this class was offered more.\r \r They also offer Astanga yoga which is physically challenging but a little boring, kinda like the hot yoga, where they do the same thing every time. Just like the Hot yoga it doesn't really matter what instructor you get, because you don't learn yoga you do a preset sequence, just hope they don't yell at you like the Hot yoga, unless you like that sort of thing. Like I said it;s challenging but kinda boring.\r \r The pilates classes are always convenient as they offer a wide variety of classes at a wide variety of times. I have favorite instruuctors and they are Penelope, Peter, and Rachel. I like their teaching because they challenge and interact with the classes.\r \r I have not had any of the spa treatments but have gotten some massage. I have only seen Robert and Will for massage and really enjoyed my treatments. For the massage aficionados(like me) book at least 90 minutes and ask if you want a full body or more specific work on a certain area of your body. \r Pros: clean, convenient Cons: yoga schedule not convenient for me more

Best Correlation Yoga, best Pilates 5/2/2007

I have to admit that when I first came to the studios, I had to wait a minute for the desk person to arrive. When they did, however, they were very helpful. Actually, one of the instructors personally gave me a tour of the studios, and he was very helpful and patient in answering all my questions. He told me all about the classes that were offered there (and plugged his own, of course - which I have come to love!!!) The studio is very nice and most importantly, clean! Everynight I leave class I see the cleaning crew goin at it. There are a lot of good instructors there, but my favorites are Penelope Wyer & Robert Joiner. Penelope is one of the Pilates insructors, and when you take her class you can tell that she has put some real care into how she delivers a class. I have taken the other teachers classes, and they are good, too - I just prefer her. I have taken many of the yoga classes and really enjoy all the instructors, but Robert's Correlation class is outstanding and I'm totally hooked on it. He makes everyone work really hard, but I never leave feeling sore - which is how I feel after other yoga classes. And, we always laugh in class - which is really great. The owner is really nice, but sometimes too nice - like he's trying to sell you something:) But I don't mind that, because I love this studio and I want it to succeed. I highly recommend this studio, it has all the yoga and pilates classes you'll ever need, and the most knowledgable instructors. Pros: Teachers, Clean, Quiet Cons: Parking more

Best Pilates in Town 3/24/2007

I have been a member of the Urban Body Studios since it opened, and would not go elsewhere. It offers the best pilates instruction in town. Nowadays there are a lot of poor/inexperienced pilates instructors around who teach bad technique that will easily result in injury if done improperly. The instructors at Urban Body Studios always take care to make sure you have a really hard workout while stressing proper technique so that your advancement through the series progresses properly and you don't get injured. They also know how to modify exercises if you do have special conditions, like if you're pregnant or injured. It's a bit on the pricier side (since you must pay for a membership rather than paying on a drop-in basis), but it's definitely worth it for what you get. The studios are also beautiful (down to the local art exhibits and live orchids) and the staff professional (they call me every week to remind me of my private lesson). more

Good but... 3/1/2007

I have been a member with Urban Body Studios since December and I can say that I do love this place. The instructors (especially Jessica Lucas and Penelope Wyer) know what they are doing and have been in this business for quite some time. The instructors are great, Rad (an owner) is great as well, but I do feel that their staff at the front desk can be a little ""cold"" at times. One girl in particular (has long black curly hair) always seems as though she doesn't want to be there and that attitude then comes out to the customers that come in for service. Other than that one particular person, this is a great place for yoga, pilates, or any of the other services that they provide. You can't let one person spoil your experience at a place. I find that everyone else that works here makes up for the ""bad apples"" are in the bunch. Pros: Great, knowledgeable instructors. Free lockers, great facilities. Cons: Parking...it's a little tight! more

Pilates and Yoga Heaven 1/15/2007

I have been taking pilates for several years now, and I have to say that my class experiences at Urban Body have been the best ever. I have taken several different types of free pilates classes, and plan on joining soon. The instructors were versatile and their personalities and knowledge glowed. I would recommend this part of Urban Body to everyone. I have not taken any yoga classes yet, but I will, and I expect the instructors to have the same glowing attitudes about teaching and practicing. \r \r My encounter with the desk staff has been a pleasurable one all three times. It was rather busy one evening, and the desk staff was patiently and politely trying to attend to all who where there. I say two thumbs up to all of the staff that I've met.\r \r I can't say enough about how beautiful and calming the interior is. I did not know what to expect the first time I went, and my expectations were blown away. Each time I go, I notice something even more wonderful about the space. So, if you enjoy taking yoga or pilates (especially pilates) I recommend Urban Body to all who are practicing, or are curious about it.\r Pros: Amazing instructors and eager to please staff Cons: One has to be a member to reserve a class more

Unfortunately I agree with the other dissatisfied person 1/14/2007

Unfortunately. I agree with the other person that referred to this place as having attitude. I've been trying to find a yoga place and was really enthused about it. I walked in and waited forever. No one was at the front desk. I finallly walked through the place looking for someone and found no one. I felt bad walking through the place unescorted (maybe they were having lunch). \r \r ONE GOOD thing, while waiting they have the best coffee table book I have read in years! I know, right? Called ""Offerings."" After I left I went to a bookstore to buy it. \r \r So after reading the book, someone came out to get a client. I asked her about the classes and she said she was a masseur and would send someone out. A lady came out and said they were doing a pilates workshop today and that was ""not included"" in the free sessions and that ""this is a workshop,"" very snooty. I was not paying attention to dates. Unfortunately, she was not a friendly person. This is the Deep South, people should be friendly. Friendliness and lack of pretense are expected, if not greatly appreciated and encouraged. She had no smile, nothing. I also asked when are the classes this week, and she responded, ""You can look it up online."" Not in a nice way, but very dry, like I was wasting her time. Not even, ""We have those listed online"" or ""we'd love to have you come back."" Nothing. They had a free class ""prize"" drawing and after the intro to this place, I was wondering if I would want them even if I did win. My going was not to get something ""free."" It was a way of checking out a new place and trying something different. \r \r Someone has obviously put a lot of time, money and effort into this place. The concept is extraordinary. The building and the music and the OWNER's tone clearly shine thru. I can't say enough positive things about that. The owner/owners have really tried to capture something different. I would just hate to see a concept like this go down the drain. Pros: Fantastic concept! the music, the ambience, EXTRAORDINARY CONCEPT Cons: WAY TOO much ATTITUDE from employees, I don't know what their trip is. more

Very Satisfied ! 1/11/2007

I enjoyed my experience at Urban Body Studios. I am a beginner level yoga person and also relocated from New York . I only had difficulty finding parking because it was evening and the gym parking lot was full. The enterance is located in the rear of the building. I found the staff to be great. I was given a tour of the facility by a fantastic young lady who answered all my questions. You can truly find everything you need under one roof--not only yoga and pilates are offered here, you can also take advantage of a full service salon with hairstylists, a skin therapist, and massage therapists all under one roof. \r \r For being a new business, I believe anyone who has ever opened their own business will know that organization is very necessary. The staff at Urban Body Studios make it a point to make sure you are looked after with great care. I also believe that Urban Body Studios will continue to do well as time goes on. Pros: Ambience, Staff Cons: Evening parking certain nights more

Attitude 1/2/2007

As a long time lover of yoga I found it to be a lot of show and no go. I love the new bikram yoga studios located within complete with showers and lockers. But the organization of uban body seemed cold sterile and full of attitude and pretension. I wouldn't expect that of a place focused on peace and tranquility. Pros: bikram Cons: ""urban body"" more
