Union Grill

Considering the price vs. the portions and quality of the food, outstanding service shouldn't be an expectation. The Union Grill thrives because of volume. Its a very hectic environment for a server, especially during the weekends. Also, with both Pitt and CMU down the street there is a large customer base of international students who haven't taken it upon themselves to understand the American culture of tipping servers. But all in all, due to the large sales volumes, your chances of getting bad service is about the same as any other restaurant. But this is about the food, right? The service is HORRIBLE and the staff is so rude that it is insulting. The food is just mediocre, not worth the expense, so it doesn't make up for the the ridicuolusly bad service. If you want a good meal and to be treated respectfully, go somewhere else. more

Trying to make this as short as possible, my second-to-last meal at Union Grill involved about a 15-minute wait to get our drink order taken and about a 1 1/2-hour wait for our food. Our waitress did not come to our table at any point afterward (forget drink refills) and we had to actually flag her down just to get the check. After writing a lengthy letter of complaint to management with no response, an acquaintance who worked there informed us that our server WAS the manager. Unbelievable. Oh, and although a complaint during the meal got us a ""dessert's on us,"" we were billed for one of the two desserts...the more expensive of the two. Cons: ATROCIOUS service, too many to list more

I called union grill to place a take out order for fish sandwiches on Friday. Because they do not have a website and I do not have their menu memorized I asked the girl what comes with the fish and what comes with it. The response I got was ""Look, I am not going to sit here and tell you the menu over the phone"" - Needless to say I'll never step foot in the place again. This place has the best salads in town. All the food I've had at Union Grill has been great. They also have a nice selection of beers on tap. Pros: consistent, fresh salads, inexpensive Cons: don't deliver! more

When you don't want anything too weird, this is the place... Great place to dress up or dress down, BIG drinks, and tasty mashed potatoes. The desserts are so/so but most of the dishes are great when you want to relax after a long day =) more

We love going to The Union Grill. It is a great place to grab a beer and have great food. Their variety is great! Now they offer $10 bottles of wine too. more
