When Maddio's opened at Toco Hill in Mama Fu's old space I was intrigued. Started up by a couple of Raving Brands veterans, it is apparent they are trying to take the Moe's build-your-own burrito concept and apply it to pizza.
Let me take you through the Maddio's experience... First you'll traverse down the line and then order at the counter while the pizza builder (for lack of a better term) adds ingredients upon command in front of your eyes. Then you and your pie part ways while it is heated in the conveyor belt oven reminiscent of Cici's pizza (sic) buffet.
So yeah, that was kind of cool...kind of different. I hate to say it, but at this point you've already experienced the highlight of Maddio's. You'll soon find out that the pie you just played such an active role in bringing to life is average at best in the end. The papery crust pretty much cancels out the novelty of the ordering experience for me.
Don't get me wrong, the pizza isn't terrible, but considering that on the small stretch of N. Druid Hills between Lavista and Clairmont, it ranks third best out of three pizzerias (1. Shorty's, 2. Chris' Pizza), I just have a hard time recommending it. Move it down a couple miles to Shamrock Plaza next to Cici's and maybe then we can talk.
Pros: lots of toppings to choose from
Cons: the quality is just not there
