I had a grandmother clock shipped from Westminister, CA to NC. I hoped it would arrive in good shape but it did not. The clock was packed by this UPS Store. All of the scroll work at the top of the clock was destroyed. There were deep gouges on all sides of the wood work. The right side of the clock was separated from the from and back.
The reason for the damage was the because the wooden crate built by this store was about 6 inches longer than the height of the clock and without sufficient padding at the top and bottom the clock simply rattled around within the crate. In addition to insufficient packing surrounding the clock, no where on the crate did it say, "Fragile", mention what was inside of the box or even indicate top from bottom. The weights had been disassembled and allowed to "float" within the crate in pieces. One additional item I discovered was that the chains for the weights were wrapped around this inner workings of the clock. And for the crating and bubble wrap service I paid $163.75.
34 years ago my Dad gave this clock to my Mom on their 25 wedding anniversary. Both of my parents are now gone so this is one of the few pieces from my family I have in my possession. I wish those details would have been know to this owner before this UPS store strung bubble rap around my piece of history and sent it cross country with a half-way attempt to keep it safe and secure.
