Can we get a HEALTH INSPECTOR PLEASE? 12/22/2009

In the past I have had good meals and service here. I went in for a meal with my family on Dec. 19th. The place was unusually empty fpr a Saturday night. We were seated in the back.\r \r It took forever to get an order taken, tried to order bubble tea but again as in the past couldn't get it. Odd that it's on the menu..... hmmmmm.\r \r One order brought to table... ok. Next order brought was wrong. Rude waiter.... probably same one other complaints have been made on, disappears for 15 minutes before bringing our two remaining orders. Bear in mind that the first order is now cold. The rest of the orders were horrible dry and disgusting.\r \r It really suprised me as a business owner and as someone having worked in the food service industry, that a huge hole in the ceiling was uncovered and over serving tables. \r \r Oregon State law requires the hole to be repaired starting with the Fire code. It is a fire and health code violation and further more a health threat having crap fall from the ceiling into customers food.\r \r These guys should be closed down and ran out of town.\r \r Stick a fork in these guys....... their done. Pros: it's food Cons: a laundry list! more

Awful, horrible, gross. 11/28/2009

Recently we went there for a family dinner with ~15 adults, and got the most unfriendly waiter ever. He didn't seem to get the concept of customer service at all. After taking almost an hour to take orders and bring some drinks, which he forgot a few, I got my diet cola, complete with broken glass in it. We had to chase down a server, because they never came back there to refill or bring the rest of the beverages. (They tried to charge us for the glass-filled soda!) Much later, when one of the dishes was brought, we asked if it had shrimp paste in it, for allergy reasons. (Traditional Thai Cashew Chicken typically doesn't have shrimp paste, but we forgot to ask prior to ordering.) Upon finding out that it did have it, I politely asked what else, already on our table, did not contain shrimp paste. Instead, the waiter rudely said, ""I'll get you a menu."" Well duh. If the menu had said it had shrimp paste in it, it wouldn't have been ordered! I had to ask 3 times, specifically what on our table at that moment did not have it! This isn't brain surgery. It's customer service, and when a customer says, ""I""m allergic to ..."" a reasonable answer should be given. It took us almost a full hour for all of us to get our dishes, even with many of us sharing items. We were still missing some soda beverages, even after this. The food was mediocre, the bathrooms dirty and small, the service was horrible terrible appalling, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Ever. Yuck. Cons: Gross food, horrible service, glass in drinks more

horrible 9/12/2009

I will NOT wait an hour or more to be served my food, no matter how good it is. This has been repeated now for the past three visits. I will never eat there again, nor will I advise anyone else to eat there Pros: good food Cons: service more

Frequent Eaters 8/30/2008

We work up the street from Tuk Tuk and love it there. Everyone knows us, the food is great. The business is adorable with wonderful colors, great lights and brilliant pops of original art on the walls. (The blue flower with orange backdrop is my perswonal fave!) It has a bit of a different flair from other Thai resteraunts which I feel in general often largely have a Vitnamese influence left over from the war. It is a little mild unless you ask for hot, but the flavor is great and many customers would be grateful of this! They always take down my crazy special orders without a flinch and have never got them wrong! We are so glad they are right up the street, love the staff (whom a review said was rude? NOT AT ALL. Were they mistaking quiet for rude? They are not in your face throughout your meal, but this is something I prefer!) \r \r They are a staple and an asset to our area and we will continue to frequent as long as they are in business!\r Thank you! more

Never again... 2/11/2008

Host was rude when we first entered the restaurant. If you're open until a certain time then act like you are and accept paying customers until that time or have signs indicating that you will not accept them past a certain time. \r \r The host gave us disgusting menus after wiping his nose with his hand and then grabbing them for us to peruse. I'm afraid he did not (as I could see him the whole time) wash his hands and DID touch our food (Pad Thai, he grabbed the carrot/cabbage and nuts with his dirty hands). \r \r Another employee did just as bad with the second order. She was counting money and when the order was up, did not wash her hands, and proceeded to put the carrots/slaw and peanuts onto that order. I will never go back and will recommend that they teach their employees some standards before someone gets sick from their food. Pros: It seemed like a lot of food for the money. Cons: If you like snot and whatever is on the money people carry around to be in your food, go for it. more

Thai? 11/23/2007

We had heard so many good things (although the majority of them were about the take out.) When we arrived we waited outside in a line while they seated people one group at a time--higher aspirations? Not sure. Hope the practice doesn't continue this winter.\r Our servers were friendly and the food arrived in a leisurely manner--we enjoyed our drinks. But this is supposed to be Thai--we had curry based dishes with no curry. All the dishes were very bland. One of the dishes had quite a bit of bamboo in it (a Thai staple) but instead of bamboo slivers it had 1/2"" long chunks --like chunks of a tree branch--not really edible? We were discreet--paid for our meal, left and went to another place. Had Panang curry and Phad Phet--it was wonderful. If the rave reviews continue we will try it again but likely stick to dishes we have heard they do well. Pros: NIce atmosphere Cons: Not sure it was Thai food. more

A Thai Gem 8/1/2007

The food was great here when this place first opened and it has only gotten better with time. I have eaten thai food all over Portland and this has been easily some of the best I have had. I love this place so much that I eat here usually two times a month, if not more often. I've eaten in the restaurant and taken food to go. Service can be slightly slow sometimes, but not too bad. To go orders are ready lightning fast. Pros: Wonderful fresh food, great location friendly staff more

Good food 7/29/2007

We like Tuk Tuk's food. They do a reliable job and are mostly consistent. Their food is equally good eaten in or carried out. The main thing we would improve is take-out consistency. Sometimes they pack it really well but sometimes not so much, and you get home and find something has tipped or spilled in the bag. And their spice levels vary too much: if I say a 2 out of 5 for spicy that should always be the same, but sometimes we say 2 and get 4+. Pros: Good food, friendly people, nice location Cons: Take-out consistency and spice level consistency more

Great food, take out is best option 4/17/2007

I will agree that dining in is probably not the greatest experience as they can be pretty slow. I would suggest take out because the food is great. My boyfriend and I have taken family and friends there and they all have really enjoyed the food. Pros: GREAT food Cons: service can be slow more

Great Thai Food!!! 10/7/2006

I stopped by Tuk Tuk just by chance because I was driving in the neighborhood and my wife asked me to pick up some takeout. I was pleasantly suprised! The first time I had a green curry and pad prik king and they both were unbelievable. Perfect! I ordered them with medium spice and they had just the right amount of spice and body. Not too sweet or mild. That's pretty hard to find at most Thai restaurants.\r Most recently I picked up an order of the pumpkin red curry and also the pad gau prau. The red curry was fantastic, and the pad gau prau was just ok. But I will stop by Tuk Tuk whenever I'm in this part of Portland, for sure. more

Great Food, Great Atmosphere! 9/5/2006

I go to this place every chance I get. I love the artwork that covers the walls, I love the food, but most of all, I love the people.\r In my experience, treat the servers like your friend, and they'll treat you well back. They are people just like us, some serious, some more light-hearted. You'll miss a lot if you look at it as a simple business transaction :) \r Think Cheers instead of Sears :) Pros: Food & Service Cons: Too far from my house :( more

tuk tuk thai 9/3/2006

Were We Invisible? 4/16/2006

The food was delicious which was really a good thing since the service was HORRIBLE. It took them 5 minutes to seat us. NO greeting or acknowledgement of us at all in that 5 minutes. It was NOT busy and it took us over 45 minutes to be served. We sat for 10 minutes waiting for a bill. They brought me the wrong food & then disappeared for 10 minutes with no explaination or apology. Truly NUTS in there. But the Evil Jungle Noodles were to die for!!! This is TO GO place! Pros: food, food, well priced Cons: service, ruse employees, speediness more

Best Thai food in town for the money! 3/17/2006

We live in the neighborhood and get take out here at least once a week for over two years now. Obviously we love it. It's one of the best Thai restaurants in town. The food is always fantastic and true to Thai cuisine. They will adjust the spiciness exactly how you want it. The flavors are well balanced. Dining in isn't as bad as the other reviews say, but it isn't five star service. Definitely worth trying more than once!!! Pros: Quick take out, Good options, Great menu more

Good Food, Bad Service 7/19/2005

I come back becasue of the food not the service. It's the worst service I have ever had. Best advice... Get it to go! Pros: food, food, food Cons: service, service, service more

Great Food, Very Bad Service 7/18/2005

I come back for the food, not the service. The waitress that work there are not friendly , or very helpful. Never do they come back to the table to refill drinks or ask if everything is ok. One can become very proficient in flagging a waitress down in this establishment. Time and time again I become disgusted about how we are treated by the waitress, but like I said before I come for the food not the service. My best advice..... GET IT TO GO! Pros: FOOD Cons: SERVICE, SERVICE, SERVICE more
