Editorial review from Citysearch 1/22/2013

Very poor customer service. My hairdresser was late for my appointment, and I had to go back the next day, since the service was not up to standard. The owner has no customer service skills.\r Will not go back there. more

Wonderful Experience Every Time! 11/18/2011

Love this salon! It’s super cute inside and everyone is very nice. I go to Sheri for my cut and highlights – and she does great work!! I wouldn’t go anywhere else and as an added bonus, the way she washes hair is amazing…it’s like an added head massage ? Would definitely recommend this salon!! more

What a wonderful place 7/28/2010

I had heard about this place and was a little apprehensive going somewhere new. It's a family run place which can be good or bad. Thankfully, it was good! Had a facial from MaryLou and she really has great hands and no pressure to buy lots products. Did take her rec. and my skin is amazing now! My hair was a disaster going in so, I put all my trust in Sheri. I went blonde for the first time in my life and a great short cut to go with it. I loved it from the second she finished. She is so creative and stylish. Not like some annoying, chatty hairdressers. Sheri mentioned she was taking some of the staff for a training in NYC in August. Makes sense why the place has a cool air about it yet, the people there make you feel welcome. I'll be back!! Pros: professional, friendly, cool atmosphere more

awesome hair cut and service! 7/27/2010

I went to this salon which I found on the internet as an out of town visitor desperate to fix a bad hair WEEK, and boy was I glad!!! Such a talented staff! Sheri and Carlos are both rock star stylists! They both helped me during my visit and I got so much personal attention, they almost had to kick me out! Needless to say I walked out feeling great and looking much hotter (style-wise, not temperature!) than I walked in. I just wish I could find a salon like this back home. sniff... Pros: talented staff, beautiful salon!! Cons: location (but only if you live across the country like me!) more

Too good to be true for North Florida??? 7/19/2010

For years I have been paying good money for bad haircuts, because for some unknown reason men cannot get a good haircut or style anywhere in the country except, DC, LA or NY. I live in Ameilia Island so it is not feasible for me to travel to DC or NY once a month for a haircut. My girlfriend lives in PV she told me about this place. I was very skeptical she loved it of course, but these Salons can never cater to male clients. Boy was I wrong!! The staff was great the girls were all beautiful and very friendly. The guy who owned it was very cool I told him the issues I had with bad haircuts for the last 25 years. He sugested to me a couple of simple styles that would complement my facial structure and fit my ""style"". OK?? 25 minutes later I was simply amazed . Easy to maintain and I look like I actually have style? One lucky haircut? Not buy a longshot I have been a regualr client the last 6 months and everytime I go I am never dissapointed. If you are man who likes to look good go to this Salon you will not find a better place within 600 miles. Thanks to Carlos, Sheri, and all the girls for 6 months of looking good!!!!!!!! Pros: Creative & Talented Stylists more

Like being at a 5 star hotel! 7/19/2010

I travel frequently, and have been in beautiful salons around the world. This one is right up there. This salon is a hidden gem. I love the open feeling. I feel like I'm in a New York loft. I feel like all the focus is on me as it should be. I didn't feel rushed in and out. There was no chitter chatter, just soothing atmosphere, and the staff was incredibly professional. I got the feeling they get along really well. I learned it is a family owned business for 15 years, and now the husband and wife are running it. They both introduced themselves to me, and I think that speaks alot for how well this place is run. Kim was my stylist and told me she had been with the company for 10 years. I can see why. She did an outstanding job on my color and haircut. I will use this salon when I am in town. I congratulate the owners. It's not easy running a quality business, but they make it seem easy, and they all seem to really love being there. Pros: Atmosphere is Beautiful, Top Notch Customer Service more

Awesome Salon!!! 7/19/2010

I am hooked on this place!!!! I tagged along with my girlfriend who had an appointment with Sheri. From the moment we walked in, the staff was very attentive and friendly. The salon is gorgeous! Sheri came out right away to greet my friend. My friend introduced us to eachother and she seemed very nice. While Sheri was starting to put the color in my girlfriend's hair, I walked over to the front desk to see if maybe there was any chance I can also get my hair done (my roots were nothin' nice to look at, and neither was my grown out haircut). The receptionist said that they were unfortunately fully booked for the day, but then excused herself to go talk to Sheri. Sheri gladly offered to work me inbetween my friend's color and haircut!!!! I was so happy! She worked her magic and gave me new beautiful blonde and caramel highlights, which she thought went great with the rich brown I walked in with. My ponytail hair is no more!!!! Now I'm rockin' a shorter, super sexy layered haircut that I am soooo excited about!!!! Thanks to her willingness to take on my unflattering look and turn it into ""SEXY, FUN"" hair, along with making me feel welcome when I didn't even have an appointment, I am booking my future appointments with my NEW hair artist, Sheri!!!! Pros: Great customer service, very welcoming staff more

Amazing Salon 7/18/2010

I could not be happier with my visit to this salon! I have had three visits to this salon in the last two weeks! I can't get enough of it!! I went here on a suggestion from a friend and ended up getting a facial with Mary Lou (AMAZING) Color with Carlos (one of the owners, FABULOUS!!) and a cut with Sheri (The other owner, Super sweet and FANTASIC cut!) The whole staff made me feel like family! I feel like I know each and every one of them now. Unlike some of the other reviews on here, which I have a hard time believing, I was greeted promptly and taken on a tour of their incredible space! The shampoo room is so relaxing and wonderful!! The hot towel is my favorite and the perfect touch to an already destressing scalp massage! All of the stylists here welcomed me to the salon individually and made me feel as if I was a celebrity and did I mention I walked out each time looking like one!! I have found a new home!! Thank you Trompe L' Oeil!! You have a new lifelong customer!! Pros: Great atmosphere and welcoming Staff Cons: Nothing! Loved it all!! more

best salon in ponte vedra 7/18/2010

from the minute i walked in i was welcomed. had an appointment with the owner and was extremely happy w her punctuality. I also enjoyed the shampoo room and was able to decompress i travel alot for work and it was nice to relax in a wonderful space. The studio reminds me of lofty salons that i've frequented in Nyc &LA. most important my haircut came out the way i wanted. Enjoyed the cafe, and the salon is quite accessible, parking is great. another plus is located near great restuarants. i definately will return Pros: beautiful ambiance, Cons: zero more

Trompe Loeil - a wonderful experience 4/18/2010

Trompe Loeil is one of those rare salons where the customer's comfort and satisfaction is the priority. The salon is relaxing and accommodating from the minute you walk in and they offer you mineral water or your choice of coffees or teas. Sherry, the owner is a true artist. She takes the time to understand what you want and she takes the time she needs to achieve it. The salon is decorated beautifully and inspires relaxation and tranquility. All of the stylists are friendly, yet exhibit the height of professionalism. A must visit salon that you'll want to return to time and again. Pros: True professionals more

Rude and incompetent owner 8/9/2009

The owner was very mean to me. She was slow, distracted, and gave me a horrible haircut. Then she yelled at me that it was my fault.\r \r I gave this salon a chance despite warnings from my friends who know the owner. The few reviews here made it sound OK. Apparently she has had several failed business ventures in Ponte Vedra. I see she hasn't changed. \r \r I wouldn't want anyone else to waste their money here. Hopefully they will close down soon and we will get a better salon in Ponte Vedra.\r \r Pros: Nothing Cons: Owner is incompetent and doesn't know it. more

Ultimate Pampering!!! 2/4/2009

I love this place!!! Trompe L'Oeil is a wonderfully cosmopolitan salon with plenty of ambiance, charm and comfort. It offers luxury appeal without even the smallest hint of pretension. The owner and staff go above and beyond in personalizing the services they provide. No ""cookie-cutter"", rehearsed, stylist nonsense here. Total honesty. If you love to laugh; want to find your Zen for a few hours; enjoy top-of-the-line products and specialized pampering, Trompe L'Oeil is the ""place to be!"" Not only do I prefer this salon; I even have my boyfriend going for hair color and cuts! (Thanks, Carlos, for taking 20 years off of him!). From proms to weddings to the inevitable teen, do-it-yourself hair disasters, I would not send my daughters to anyone else. Kim is an angel for nursing my hair back to health after another salon almost bleach-burned it off! Again, love this place!!! Pros: Skill, Ambiance, Affordability, Products Cons: I can't take them home with me! ;^) more

Worst salon ever 8/29/2008

The owner gave me a terrible haircut and was extrememly rude. I wish I had read these reviews before I went. I didn't tip, but otherwise I have no other means to complain other than writing here. Go to any other salon than this one. Cons: Why would I pay someone to be rude and give me a bad haircut? more

Extremely rude 6/16/2008

i was completely disappointed in this salon. I was grossly overcharged for a hairdo, and when I approached the owner, she was extremely rude and aggressive. I couldn't believe the lack of customer service. Also, it doesn't have the traits of a high-end salon (only it's own claims)-- comfortable seating, beverage choices, etc.). My strong advice: spend your money elsewhere! more

Worst Experience of my life - and on my wedding day! 6/1/2008

I booked this salon 8 months in advance to be sure they had time for my entire wedding party. I also scheduled a trial updo and make-up for myself 3 days early, with the owner. \r \r I brought in a picture of exactly what I wanted for my hair. The 3 updos she did looked nothing like the picture. She didn't listen to me at all. She even stated once that she didn't like the style I had chosen. Suddenly she stopped and said ""since you are 30 minutes late, I cannot do anymore updos on you and I have no time to do your make-up"". She had scheduled another client that evening. I had asked to be the last client of the day. I had also rescheduled the appointment 30 min later! I called other salons but could not reschedule my party.\r \r On the wedding day, we showed up 1/2 hour early for our appointments. She actually did my updo like the picture this time. Then she stated she had no time to do my make-up because she double booked ANOTHER BRIDE. I protested, and she said it was not her problem. \r \r She offered her assistant make-up artist to do my make-up. This woman put orange base and brown powder all over me that did not match my color at all. The make-up artist refused to take off the make-up. She said the cleanser was in the facial rooms, and she couldn't slip in to borrow some because they were both occupied. We asked to wait, but she said no, the rooms were going to be occupied all day and night. Then she stomped off to the back and refused to come out again.\r \r This salon was horrible. The owner double-booked 2 brides to make more money and had no concern for my huge bridal party who unfortunately paid them about $1000 revenue for them. She was extremely rude to me (the bride). The make-up artist acted like a child. All we could do at the time was not tip for the service. Future brides do not trust your looks and your nerves on your special day to these bozos. I have no idea why the Sawgrass Marriott recommends them except that maybe they get a % of the money earned. Pros: Absolutey nothing Cons: rude owner, bad updo, make-up like a clown, staff could ruin your wedding day more

the BEST 4/1/2008

i would never go anywhere else. their products are top of the line. carlos does excellent colour and AMAZING cuts, not a hair out of place. i have baby fine hair and am incredibly picky and have never been dissatisfied. they also have a girl that does beautiful eyebrows. there are also a number of posh spa treatments. the salon itsself has a very urban, chic vibe and is fabulously tranquil. discrete afterhours type music is so preferable to the cheesy radio stations with annoying commercials many other salons have blaring in the background. the main salon is transformed a few evenings a week for dancing lessons, how cool is that? when i walk out the door i always feel like i've just returned from a quick getaway to miami. Pros: skill, products, service, ambience more

Friendly Fabulous ""Big City"" Quality Salon - with small town feel!!! Best Kept Secret in Ponte Vedra 3/24/2008

I moved north of town over a year ago and I still drive an hour to have my hair cut there - great stylists, fabulous service. The staff is wonderful, warm and friendly - the space is bright, expansive uncluttered and unpretentious. more

best salon in jacksonville 1/26/2008

Gorgeous space, very unique and different. From the moment I entered, I received excellent service. I had the best facial of my life, and my stylist gave me the best color and cut. I have since referred so many people. I have tried numerous salon's prior to this one, and every place fell short. This salon and spa in my opinion has one of the best environments. The staff is very friendly, and you can tell they are really happy to be there. more
