AVOID PLEASE 9/22/2011

ONLY A TOURIST WOULD TRY HERE WILLINGLY. Great waiter but had to hawk customers like a tijuanna storefront. Food was sparing and not to be considered professionally prepared, Sauce had no flavor and veal no taste. LEAVE THIS FOR THE CONVENTION CROWD. Even the coupons don't make up for so-so food at premium prices. more

Not a good news!!! 7/20/2011

I don't know the point of yelping this place cause any1 with an internet connection would probably not be fooled and walk in off the street. but just in case you are thinking about it, be careful. Be very careful. This place made me feel not so good. I dont know what it was exactly, but something was bad.The service was absent-minded and as mentioned, the food was poison quality. Sorry any1 who knows my reviews knows I want to stick to good news but this was not good news. more

Tourist trap--Too pricey for the food, service 8/5/2010

We were drawn in by the 10% coupon the hostess handed us the night before. We ordered a $40 bottle of Chianti, vintage 2006. We received a vintage 2007 for the same price. The food was ok, but not worth the price. Kids menus were also an initial draw for us, but after receiving the penne with butter, and mozzarella grilled cheese, each for $9, plus milk for an extra $3 each, we were feeling a little taken. Then the main course...Salmon Griglia--salmon with cooked celery and other assorted veggies, with a dijon sauce. Again, not a bad meal, but not worth the $26 we paid. Then to top it off, when we got the bill, it was over $101, for one main dish, one antipasta side dish, two kids meals, and a bottle of wine. The bill didn't even reflect a full 10% off that we were promised by the coupon. Needless to say, we felt like we were taken for a ride in a tourist trap, and I believe that is exactly what it is. If you want to be overcharged for what you are getting, by all means, go here. If you want to save money and have a better experience, go Fred's Mexican Restaurant, or Cremerie Chocolat, both right next door, and both well worth the money. Cheers. more

Best dining in downtown 12/13/2009

I had a reservation for a party of 40 at Tratorria La Bocca in november, and i gotta say Bravo to the staff and the chef...our food and service was better than any restaurant in La Jolla or Del Mar that ive dined at...people always think going to high end restaurants in those areas is gonna be a great experience but no, their services will never compare to the freshness and authenticity of LA BOCCA..i can go on for pages but will stop here and just say thankyou so much for making our experience at your restaurant so memorable i will be back with my family and more parties..thankyou.! Pros: seafood linguini is the best dish Cons: no drawbacks more

Cheated at la Bocca 7/25/2009

Avoid this place anytime! We went there for dinner and we had to wait 30 min. for our food... The food was cold and the greens were yellow. Our server Bill made some mistakes in our check. Bad food, bad service and we were cheated @ Trattoria La Boca. Pros: Better food on 5th Cons: Cold food, bad service more

Tourist Trap ;( 7/21/2009

Are you kidding me? Attentive service at THIS place? My parents and I picked Trattoria La Bocca while strolling through the Gaslamp Quarter late on a Saturday afternoon because a sign out if front boasted 7-day-a-week happy hour specials. Their listed prices were no great shakes...$5 for Blue Moon/Corona/House Wine, $4 well drinks, $3 Bud (which we were later told they had none of) and $5 bruschetta. We had to move outside after being seated because happy hour is only outside. OK....We were one of 4 parties in the whole place and it took close to 10 minutes to get our drink and appetizer order in. The manager who took our order was rude and unattentive. There was pretty much nothing happy about an hour under his watch. Our drinks came out slow...we sipped them for a good half hour and the bruschetta was nowhere in sight. Honestly...the service was laughably bad - we were never approached before we had to walk up to the server to ask for our check. At that time they gave us a check that was $1 more per drink than the happy hour price we confirmed when ordering. (I am assuming that is a normal practice here because they think people won't notice and the place is sooo dead, I don't think they are making any money.) I guess that bruschetta got sent to outer space because, for whatever reason, it seemed like they never planned on bringing it to us. SO SO SO glad we weren't planning on getting dinner because if I was actually hungry, all hell would have broken loose if I had to wait that long. The menu was uninspired and overpriced ($20-$30 per entree). The patio was nice but the interior lacked ambiance. The table next to me had to complain about getting a bottled beer past expiration date. I see absolutely NO reason why anyone would come here unless you like being miserable. There are plenty of other overpriced places in the gaslamp district, so waste those $$ elsewhere! more

We had dinner at La Bocca. NEVER AGAIN! The food wasn't fresh or good. Service was not that great... But our server Bill overcharged us. If you are going to eat @ Tratoria La Bocca check your charges before you make the payment... Pros: BAAAAAAAD Italian food more

Avoid anytime 10/14/2006

A group of about 10 of us went to La Bocca for dinner and all of us agreed that the service and the food were equally horrible. The server argued with us about the bill when we questioned it and said ""don't worry, I'll pay it out of my pocket""... making us feel extremely uncomfortable about saying anything more to him. I ordered Penne Arrabiata and asked for it to be spicy. The chef added canned jalepeno's to my dish. To say that the quality of the food was sub-par, would be generous. It was an expensive and terrible experience. more
