I cannot believe how poorly the owner and staff treat their customers. The food is OK, but they seem out of many menu items. We go to many neighborhood restaurants in the area, an...

Delicious food, Convenient location 8/10/2006

Went here w/ my wife pre-theatre. GREAT location near Times Square & Broadway Theatres. Service was good, wine selection was excellent. My wife had a pasta dish(fettucini with shrimp) & I opted for some veal....both were very good. Pros: Food, Wine, Location more

Very Disappointed 8/8/2006

After reading the reviews we tried this place. Their ""signature"" open ravioli with lobster and porcini was HORRIBLE as was the risotto. I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone. Pros: Service Cons: Food more

Nice atmopshere for a late night dinner 7/11/2006

We had a post show dinner on a Friday night and was fairly empty when we showed up but was busy within the half an hour. A great location right in the Theatre District. The appetizers were really good and the main course was just good. Not sure how often they offer a theatre discount, but the night we went we received 10% off our meal with our ticket. more

Best Italian in New York 5/30/2006

Both my husband and I love food. We feel very passionately about different cusines, especially Italian. We spend a lot of time in Italy, because my husbands job. We love New York, because it has the best food from all over the world, all right here. This is our favorite Italian restaruant in New York. The pizza like that you can only find in Italy. We love it. Try the Dopo Teatro pizza with prociutto with a hint of trufle oil. Really amazing. Pros: Best Pizza, Great service, Nice atmosphere more

Terrific Food 5/29/2006

We had a great dinner here. It was a group of 10. The service was amazing. Everyone was so happy with their selections. I had tuna tartar - really good - for appetizer and open duck ravioli, as an entree. Some of my friends had the veal, pizza and pasta all terrific. Everything was really great. We were all very impressed with how organized and amazing everything was. We are planning another dinner already. Highly recommended. Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Location more

Great Night Out 5/15/2006

My girlfriends and I went out on the town. We heard about this place from other friends and decided to try it. Boy, were they right. We had a wonderful time. The food was amazing. The best pizza I've ever had. My friend's steak was great; everyone was happy with their meal. We shared some appetizers, also great. Our waiter, Ludow, was great. He made our night. His wine recommendation was equisite and made everything that much better. If you go, try to be in Ludow's section, ""the best table"" in the house. Well we will definately be back and take our hubbies along this time. Highly recommended. Pros: Great food, Great service , Beautiful space more

Great time 5/1/2006

My mom took me here for the first time for a pre-theater dinner. We had a great time. This is my mom's favorite place, so I didn't think I was going to like it, but I was wrong. The restaurant is beatiful. The high ceilings and the elegant decor create a wonderful ambience. The food is really what you come here for, amazing pizza. I brought my Italian husband here last night and he loved the pizza too. He said ""that's what pizza is like in Rome."" He barely ever gives reviews like that, so check it out. Pros: Great food, Beautiful Decor, Close to theaters more

Romantic Date Restaurant 5/1/2006

I love this restaurant. I highly recommend it for dates and romantic dinners. My girlfriend loves the food and the interior design. We both work in the area, so it's convienient. They have a romantic garden downstrais. The veal is great, the steak is awesome. Fish, pasta and pizzas are great, so your date has a nice choice. The wine list has an impressive variety; the martinis are great too. I highy recommend it. Pros: Food, Romantic, Location more

not worth it 4/17/2006

i normally avoid times square like the bird flu. but i was going to a show and read great reviews of dopo, so why not. we ordered a glass of wine. waiter asked us if it was legal. being ID'd? ok. but we didnt know what he was talking about. the wine came ikea-like wine glasses. we ordered pizza as an appetizer (buffalo mozz, prosciutto, and arugula). the waiter said that it was the best pizza on the menu. the cheese was so runny that the crust was soggy and it had wayyy too much garlic. the waiter asked us if he was supposed to throw the leftovers to the dogs? we also ordered the mahimahi and duck. the duck had little meat although the few bites i got were tasty. my girlfriends mahimahi was bland. check please.... thanks to avenue q and ben and jerry's for redeeming our night. Pros: decor Cons: food, price, waiter more

Amazing, romantic dinner! 3/24/2006

My boyfriend took me to the beautiful restaurant last week and I fell in love with it. The food is truely amazing. The atmosphere is romantic and grandious. The mood is just happy and up-lifting. Service was excellent. The waiter was very nice and helpful. He suggested a great bottle of wine for us, beautifully served with a decanter. I was very impressed, it just added to the romantic evening. We had a quiet, romantic dinner I had an delicious duck with roasted fennel. It was quite different and phenomenal in taste. My boyfriend opted for a rib-eye steak, which he was very satisfied with. We are going to be back for sure. Bravo. Pros: Excellent food, Great wine, Romantic Atmosphere more

My theater district favorite 3/20/2006

This is one of my true favorites in the theater district. I'm somewhat of a theater buff, so I'm pre-theater dining all the time. The restaruant is a beatiful space. The decor is exquisite. I love the dinning room with the high ceillings and the pictures of Italian cinema on the walls. The service is always friendly and prompt. They understand the pre-theater crowd. The service is fast and yet not pushy. The managers are always very friendly. Now, the really important thing is the food - magnificent. I'm a meat lover and they make the best veal in town. My favorite is ossobuco, but the veal scaloppini is equally good. My husband loves their homemade pastas. The brick-oven pizza is excellent as well. We have been comming here for years and they have been consistently wonderful. My complimants to the Chef. Pros: excellent food, beautiful decor, great fast service more

A Late Night Great 3/19/2006

We were running late for the theater, so we decided to go after the theater to dinner. We chose Trattoria, because we usually go here with our friends. We love the food and the ambience. It's our favorite in the city. We had a great time even late night. I was quite nice. The crawds have gone by than. The food was excellent as always. I had my favorite there, tuna tartare and bowtie pasta with salmon. My husband had the ossobuco, which is really amazing here. The service was excellent as always. I was happy, they were as nice and friendly late night as they are durring the day : ) We had an amazing time, as always. If you want a more tranquile experience, I highly recommend it. Great ambience! Pros: excellent food, great wine selection, friendly service more

A disappointment 3/9/2006

I have no idea how the previous reviews rave about this place, because the food was below average. I went here last night for dinner before a show. We chose the price-fixed pre theater menu. It sounded like a lot of food for the price. The bruschetta was stale, the salad was OK, the salmon was small and nothing spectacular, and was served with about a 1/2 cup of broccoli. My brother and his girlfriend both got the lasagna and it was the smallest piece I've ever seen in my life. The noodles looked burnt too. They said it was OK. I've been to a lot of other places that have an amazing price-fixed menu with excellent food-maybe there are better selections on the regular menu, but if you want a satifying, delicious Italian meal with good portions, this is not the place. Pros: prompt seating, nice atmosphere, conveniently located Cons: below average food more

Post theater great! 3/5/2006

My husband and I love the theater and are always busy and never have time for some real discussion, so we started going to restaurants after the show to exchange thoughts. Well, we usually choose restaurants close to the theaters. This time we chose this one and I tell you, it was wonderful. They have the best tiramisu I've ever tasted and they make this mousse pastery that's delicious. It was 6 of us and we had a great time. The kitchen was still open, so some of us ordered pizza, we had some wine and discussed away. We didn't feel rushed and had a great time. It's a nice post theater destination. Pros: great homemade desser, friendly staff, close to theaters more

A Romantic Departure 2/26/2006

We loved this romantic, elegant restaurant. The ambience spells romance. The cozy alcoves provide a cozy hide away spots. The viberent colors, high ceilings and homey trinkets make for a picturesque scene. Now, the food will blow you away. I had homemade bowtie pasta with salmon and asparagus - delicious. My husband had pappardelle with chunks of wild boar. The presentation was very nice. And the tiramisu was truely amazing! You should leave some room and try it. The service was fast and professional. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeble about the wines. He made a perfect suggestion regarding the wine. We loved it so much we had him save us the label. We had an amazing time. I highly recommend it especially for late night romantic gettaway dinners. Salute! Pros: Fabulous food/wine, Romantic ambience, Great service more

Great pre-theater (or just plain dinner) option. 2/23/2006

I ate at dopo teatro last night based on the reviews here. The food was wonderful. I had the risotto, which was richly flavored with truffle oil. My mother had fettucine ragu and particularly enjoyed the fresh pasta (we wondered if it was made on the premises). And for pre-theater, the prices were pretty reasonable. The best part, however, was the marinated vegetables on the antipasto plate. The artichokes, tomatoes, and olives were delicious. Before you order though, know that the marinated vegetables, despite what the menu says, are part of the special antipasto plate, not the regular menu one. One word of warning - the downstairs 'garden' doesn't provide the ambience you might expect. The metal tables and chairs are packed in uncomfortably, and the 'skylight' provides a view of the floor above. I'd request to sit on the top floor. Pros: antipasto, reasonable prices, friendly service Cons: 'garden', inaccurate menu more

Nice pre-theater 2/22/2006

I took my wife here for dinner before the theater. We had a wonderful time. She raved about her food. She had tuna tartare and the red snapper. I opted for meat; the ossobuco was exquisite. The service was very professional and friendly. We got there a little late, they rushed the orders for us. Wonderful, just a wonderful experience. I highly recommend it! Pros: exquisite food, friendly staff, elegant decor more

GREAT AMBIENCE AND FOOD. 2/22/2006

I love theather, and i like Broadway show. But i never like to eat out in the distric often because i always had a feeling that, theathers restaurant food is not too good, and they don't serve you well. I was wrong, this place was really crowd, the food nice and well presented, and the service attempt and coordiante well. the only thing suprise me was the manager ( i guess he was ) who called up our waiter almost screaming quiet loud! well, sometimes people loose control of them self. Nice job, hope they will keep up with it! Pros: good food, nice wine list, great crowd Cons: screaming fits!! more

Editorial
  • Due to its prime Theater District location, this cavernous Italian eatery is often overlooked by locals, and is instead frequented by tourists trying to zip in and out before a show. What a shame,...
