Bring the Gang! 3/18/2006

Trail Dust is a great restaurant to bring the out-of-town gang that's looking for home cooking at an affordable price. (not a sushi lover's restaurant) Sit away from the slide/stage and the noise level is quite tolerable. I recommend sending the kids to the slide, ordering a cocktail and enjoying a conversation with adults. By the time the food comes out, you're relaxed and the kids are hungry. Yeah, the service is a bit slow. But what do you expect from teenagers reluctantly dressed in a Texas get-up?! That's what the cocktail is for! Pros: kid entertainment, affordability, country music Cons: slow service more

The "Rare" Exception 3/3/2006

Despite the crowd, we were greeted within seconds of entering the Traildust Steakhouse. We were offered a hand held "buzzer" and led to the bar area to wait our turn. We gave our order moments later. While enjoying our drinks the buzzer announced our table. The expected wait of "at least 30 minutes, seemed like no more than 15. Our friendly waitress was knowledgeable and the food was superb. I enjoyed one of the best steaks I've had in a long time. Big note: I like my steaks 'rare' (just slightly more than warmed up on both sides). It is with rare exception (no pun intended) that I receive my steak cooked correctly! I usually send the first overcooked steak back, so I was pleasantly surprised to receive just what I ordered - The First Time! Will we return? You bet! Will we recommend them to others? We just did! Pros: Waitstaff, Food Quality, Great to take kids Cons: Smokers at entrance more

Will Not Go Back 1/23/2006

A group of us went there for dinner. We were excited because the place seemed to be interesting. The food was not very impressive. The chicken was too dry. The chef made a mistake on putting the steak on the plate. We told the manager, but he only said ok and left without apologizing. We asked him to come back and he thought we swapped the steak ourselves. At the end of the day, he said sorry without meaning it. It became a very unpleasant experience. If he would have been more sincere and apologize, we would have been fine. It the manager does not care about customer service, why should the customers go back? more

Before about 1 year ago we used to go here all the time. Yeh it is noisy and there are a lot of kids, but I have a bunch of kids and it is great to let them get some energy out while we wait. But since about 1 year ago the menu changed slightly, the sweet potatoes are now mashed and chunked as opposed to whole the way they used to be, they also dont taste as good. The steaks which I really liked are now filled with fat and grizzle as one other review stated, I confirm that statement. I have no idea how this place gets a rating that it has. We no longer go here as the quality of the foood is just not that good and the service and wait isnt any better. Pros: Great for kids, Big steaks Cons: Food, Wait, Sevice more

Great fun Place for families with kids! It is a little noisy because of this but if you need a great change of pace from the normal restaurants you can take kids to this is the place for you! Great value for your hard earned dollar. You will not go broke feeding the whole crew. Wonderful steaks and relaxed atmosphere. Pros: Good food, good value, relaxed atmosphere Cons: a little noisy more

Unbearable. 8/14/2004

First the good part: The ranch salad dressing is good, and the Texas Toasts that come with dinner were tasty. Now the bad: Just imagine that 35% of the people in the place were under 10 years old. It's like the Chuck E Cheese of steak houses. Kids screeming, running, crying all around you. I guess they come here for the big slide in the middle of the restaurant. The volume level of the kids combined with the live music makes it impossible to have a conversation with the person sitting across from you. The steaks are very average, the service is confused, the sweet potatoes were terrible, the vegetable skewer was dry, the thickly battered onion rings flavorless. This place has been permanently scratched off my list. I feel sorry for the people that have to work there. Dine at your own risk. Pros: Kid friendly Cons: , Poor Food, Bad Service more

Overrated! 6/2/2004

This place doesn't even have the quality of a Ponderosa! The steaks are so over priced, and were of very poor quality! We got the "special" dessert which was nothing more than an oreo cookie with a scoop of icecream and thin chocolate syrup and whipped topping! The service was slow, and not very gracious. I can't imagine EVER going back there again! Pros: None more

I have lived in denver my whole life and eaten many many times at the Trail Dust steak house. We usually attend the Arapahoe and I-25 location. However, the last 4 times visiting their establishment, their food has been below average. My children did not even like it. And they use to love it. After our 4th chance (visit) my kids suggested we do not return for quite some time. They need to re-think their food and train their wait staff for a more timely serving. Hope they do improve, because we used to love that place. more

If you have small children, this is a great place to go and have a very good steak for a reasonable price without feeling uncomfortable because the kids are running around. The steaks are very good, excellent for the price. The ribs are even better. Pros: Screaming kids OK, value, relaxed Cons: Screaming kids OK, can be loud more

We've been going to the TrailDust B4 it burned down, twice a month. We have just had the worst steaks and service ever. We ordered prime rib & waited 20 minutes to find out that it would be ready for quite sometime, were offered a fee dessert. My new york strip steak was raw & had as much fat/gristel as there was steak. Needless to say I boxed it up to take it home to cook. Our server said she would take it off our bill & when the bill arrived she said she took off $9.00 since I was takine it home. I said I was leaving it, she went to get a manager-15 minutes later NO manager so we paid the bill, left all the food, No free dessert. We waisted 1 hour 40 minutes, left hungry. We will never go back. Cons: Bad Steaks, Poor Service more

This is a show place for out of town visitors, or after-work revelry, it's an entertainment center, but not a place to go to enjoy a good steak. I'd measure the steaks more on quantity than quality, as does the Trail Dust, itself. It serves very routine grilled steaks, the environment is uncomfortable seating, loud, and chaotic. The ambiance - imagine "summer camp chow hall" ... Pros: fun for visitors, fun for kids, drink up !!! Cons: mediocre steaks, loud/chaotic, overpriced more

This is not a smoke free restaurant. Service is slow from waiting for a table to being served with your order. Your food will be served in a variety of dishes from plastic to stryofoam. The steak served us was just OK with our baked potatos overcooked with a salad thrown together. Trail Dust has its strong following of customers who love the above. Out of town guest usually like it? Pros: Country Atmosphere Cons: Service, Food Quality, Loud Music more

Best Steak for the Buck. 5/14/2003

I have found the steaks at Traildust's Englewood location to be the best value/quality combination around. They marinate all their steaks for days, and then cook them over real mesquite. The Prime Rib is quite a good value. I actually like it much better than the DTC Broker, and the cost is quite a few bucks less. Traildust is one of the few places where you can get Rocky Mountian Oysters left in Denver. They are not on the menu, so you have to ask for them specially. The service can be slow when they get busy, and you often get seated next to a table of screaming kids. Pros: Good value, Good food, Rocky Mtn Oysters Cons: Noisy, Slow Service more

I can not believe that people that live in Denver actually consider the Trail Dust a great place to eat! It was good about 10 years ago, but has gone downhill drastically. There are so many other great places to eat steak in Denver. I encourage those who think the Trail Dust should be on the top ten list to try a real restaurant. more

By far it is better, if anything taste-wise than any of the above. Also, the best value for the dollar. Can any of the other's say that in view of their high prices over Traildust?! The best service-oriented place (bend-over backwards to please the customer and bring them back)in Denver. more

Since this place burned down and was rebuilt, the food isn't anywhere near as good. I used to look forward to going to the Traildust but now I only go if someone else suggests it and I'm out voted Pros: Atmosphere, music, service Cons: food, food, food more

What is it they say about first impressions that they are usually accurate? Okay, let's say you go to a restaurant, and it's the first time you've ever been there, what notion would first occur to you if the very first thing you saw upon entering was the hostess, forehead to hat-brim with one of the waiters, deeply engrossed in what is, obviously, a flirtatious, intimate (personal and private) conversation (oral exchange of information), standing right at the hostess station? After you realize that you're not in a plebian nightclub, that it truly is the restaurant, your party hesitantly steps forward. When the hostess completes her "paragraph" and tears herself away from her "indiscreet" discourse, she acknowledges your presence with a glance. And the hostess whirls around to confront your party. Her facial expression and body language leave no doubt that she is quite perturbed at the interruption. Cons: Rude, uncaring more

I can't believe Outback is currently rated higher. The Traildust always has a good steak without over seasoning. The service is always trying very hard. The atmosphere is very Colorado although the tie thing is a bit campy. more
