Immediate trip to the vet required 5/4/2018

We just got our dog back from boarding at Top Dog necessitating an immediate trip to our vet. His skin around both ears was rubbed raw, weeping and infected. It was clearly obvious by the smell and discharge to anyone near him. Jean, the owner takes no responsibility whatsoever and was dismissive when we reported this. Our dog has never had hot spots and was in perfect condition when we dropped him off. Our vet concurred that this was negligence on their part for our dog to be in this condition. What is most concerning is what would have happened if our dog had a longer stay without any treatment. The staff obviously needs more education on dog care and awareness of conditions. On top of the expense for boarding fees and $150.00 vet bill, this is inexcusable on the ownership to not make any amends. Please go elsewhere for your boarding- they clearly didn't take good care of our dog! RESPONSE FROM Top Dog Country Club: We feel bad that your dog developed a hot spot. Golden Retrievers are very prone to hotspots and they develop very quickly. It appears he had an ear infection brewing and as a result, scratched at his ears which caused the skin to break and bacteria from his nails to enter the skin. This is a perfect brewing ground for staff infection and a hot spot can develop and spread within hours. We saw no signs of him scratching or shaking his head which would alert our team that there was an issue. He was not scheduled for a bath, which is also another avenue for us to catch an ear infection that might lead to hot spots. We are diligent about watching dogs and we often catch medical issues that arise but your dog did not display any of these signs and therefore we had no reason to investigate further. We hope that his hot spots resolve quickly. more

As usual, outstanding care but now outstanding obedience training is also available! 5/30/2015

My wife and I boarded our English Mastiff puppies at Top Dog for approximately eight weeks in January and February, 2015. Having previously boarded our golden retrievers with Jean and her team at Top Dog, we were very comfortable boarding our Mastiff puppies while we sold our home in Minneapolis and relocated to Houston. This time, however, we had two rapidly growing Mastiff puppies that badly needed obedience training and, with everything else going on, neither my wife nor I had time to get this done. Jean offered the services of Beck, a new member of the Top Dog team, to train the Mastiffs. The transformation has been incredible! Both puppies, who now weigh more than 150 lbs each, went from big, powerful and out-of-control to big, powerful and well-behaved under Beck's instruction! Beck was most generous with her time showing my wife and me where to pick up with training our Mastiffs where Beck had left off. Both dogs continue to be "works in progress" but without Beck's outstanding work this progress would never have been possible. Thanks again, Jean, Beck and the outstanding employees at Top Dog! more

The absolute best place for your dog to vacation while you are away. You will not feel guilty leaving your four legged family member when he/she tramples you to get out of the car and in to Top Dog... 2/10/2014

At 41 years of age and wanting a third baby late in life (husband nixed that), I got my first dog ever- a chocolate lab. We were planning a trip to Hawaii five months after we got her and would be gone for two weeks. Top Dog Country Club was a place I had read about and had also been recommended to me. After looking at Top Dog, and loving it there, I looked at all the competition and there was no question that Top Dog was the place! It has been the place ever since and we never feel guilty about going away because we know our pup is having as much fun as we are!! Love it and would recommend highly! more

The word 'Top' only begins to describe the quality experience at Top Dog Country Club! 1/11/2014

I could go on and on about why we love Top Dog Country Club, but it all really boils down to Jean and the staff. Other people might be able to replicate the facilities ( I highly doubt it), but unless they can clone Jean, they'll never replicate the experience you get at Top Dog. Jean has a true calling and a gift for dogs. Sure, it's easy to provide a great boarding experience for non-challenging dogs, but that's not our dog. Jean and her staff have welcomed our challenging dog with open arms working with us to understand his needs and limitations, and to make it a good experience for him. You might think Top Dog is only for social dogs who want to take advantage of all the wonderful amenities. It's not. It's for all dogs whose owners want the best possible care for their furry loved-one while they are away. If you have a special needs dog, and have been hesitant about boarding, please call Jean! We are so glad we did. more

Ginger LOVES Top Dog Country Club 12/8/2013

I have been taking my dog Ginger to TDCC for the past couple of years. She LOVES her time with the other dogs and the staff members. Ginger is a wire hair fox terrier that has boundless energy and wants to dominate all small dogs. The staff at TDCC did an assessment and placed her with larger dogs--it was a match made in heaven. I know that Ginger loves the place because she starts crying about five miles before we get there and then pulls on her leash to get in the front door. She plays so hard while there that she sleeps for several days once she gets home. I know the staff is attentive because they tell me things about Ginger that I know to be unique to my little girl. My only wish is that they were closer to our home in Edina--I would take her for day care "play time" several times a week. Thank you to Jean and the entire staff for their kindness, good humor, and exceptional care! more

BEST PLACE EVER 6/29/2013

I have on older dog that can sometimes be crabby. I will never forget the relief I felt when I talked to the staff for the first time. I heard no question or concern from them about caring for my old spoiled guy. I had been looking for some time for a place to take him where I would not worry. He was with people who knew how to notice and handle issues in a positive manner. Imagine my surprise when I got his report card and found out he "loves the pool", he has not swam for me in his 10 years. Not that's trust. I love knowing that my dog is somewhere that he loves and I can be at complete ease every moment he is there. more

No Worries! 5/8/2013

I'm a worrier. It's just something I was born with. I don't try to think of things to worry about, they just pop into my head. Things that would never even occur to the average person worry me. I especially worry about my furry babies. I could never even imagine leaving them in a traditional concrete & chain link boarding kennel. Because of this I used to avoid travelling. At one point I even made my husband buy a motorhome so we could travel by taking our dogs with us. That just gave me a whole new set of things to worry about. Then I found Top Dog Country Club. From our very first visit to check the place out I felt at ease. The facilities are great, the suites are very home-like & the staff are wonderful. My dogs LOVE Top Dog! They start quivering with excitement the minute we turn off Hwy 7 & start down the gravel road to the Club. Now when I travel my dogs are the only things I don't worry about! more

Jean and her staff take the time to really know your furry family and they respect them. My Shelties always look good after being groomed there and the are always tired from play. You could not trust your family to better people. Jean always takes the time to know her client's family (us two leggeds) as well. more

Top Dog is the BEST 3/8/2013

We have been bringing our wheaten terriers to Top Dog for years. The pups know the minute we pack things up that they are off to "camp" and the excitement builds. They can't wait to get out of the car, run in and greet the staff. I have been impressed by the staff's ability to cater to the unique needs of each pup. My dogs have been given outstanding care and it helps us have a better vacation knowing that they are safe and being loved and cared for. more

Love and TRUST this place with my "babies" 1/13/2013

My Labradors have been going to TopDog for 8 years. Pool time is a favorite, of course, but as their parent, Im most exuberant about the TRUST I have leaving my babies at TopDog. I have traveled halfway around the world knowing that my dogs are in good hands. They will receive the love, care and more play time than I give them at home. more

The absolute best! 1/10/2013

This is the only place that I would leave Charlie & Daisy when we can't take care of them ourselves. I love that we can call everyday and they never seem annoyed. Our pups know as soon as we turn down the dirt road that they are going on their own vacation. We have learned that we have to say goodbye in the car because they run in the door and right to the back without a glance in our direction. Very highly recommended! more

Top Dog is Top Notch! 11/19/2012

Top Dog is by far the best in the Twin Cities area and I always leave Emma there when I go on vacation. She has lots of energy and she always gets plenty of playtime. The staff never seem to mind when I call to check on her. It's worth the hour drive for me each way, knowing Emma will be given the very best care outside of Grandma and Grandpa. more

Sometimes I think my dog's vacations are better than mine...! 11/5/2012

Top Dog is a wonderful facility. It's housed in a beautiful building set out in the country, yet still convenient to my home in the West Metro. From our dog's first visit as a puppy with a broken paw, to this weekend's herding demonstration (my dog was so excited to get out of the car and go TOWARDS the building) -- what more could we ask?! She goes in happy, she comes back happy, (and clean [grooming services available!]). Care, concern, activities, knowledgeable staff it all adds up to an easy boarding decision and never a worry while on vacation. more

Really the "unkennel" 11/1/2012

We take Suzy and Olive to Top dog every chance we get, not only for vacations but for grooming and a "play day". They love it there and we love to take them. We know that Jean and her staff will care for them the same as if they were hers. Jean provides staff to play outdoors every day. When we pick them up, they are tired puppies. But they never have any anxiety about going there. They get excited when we turn up the lane. Our family could not be in better hands. As a matter of fact, we have told Jean that if anything happens to us, we want her to have Suzy and Oliver because they will recieve the same care and affection they receive when we leave them with her. more

A wonderful place for any dog to stay providing a worry free vacation for any owner 10/31/2012

Our Lab puppy has stayed at Top Dog on two different occasions, and loves it! We never worry about her, knowing she is getting excellent care, lots of hugs,very safe and having endless fun! We don't do the "traditional kennels" and have always used dog/house sitters until we discovered Top Dog, now we only use them! When bringing Bella home after her last visit, she cried the whole way home, missing all her new friends! Thank you Top Dogs! more

The best facility for pets! 10/5/2012

Top Dog Country Club was recommended by a friend that loves her dogs as much as we do ours so we knew that we were headed in the right direction when we made a visit to the facility. We were so impressed with what we saw and couldn't believe how so many dogs could get along so well together without any confrontations. This was a first time boarding experience for our dogs (and for us) but after visiting with Jean and taking a tour of the facility, we were no longer anxious about leaving our pets with her while traveling out of the country for 12 days. Not only were our pets going to be in great care but they were going to get so much outdoors time with lots of other pets and get in a full days worth of activities. Felon loved the pool and got to hang out with some other swimmers, Ditto made some new friends too and they both came home with A+ reports!:) When we picked them up, they were both glad to see us but I am not too sure that they were ready to go home...I think that they both would have been very happy to live with Jean, staff and their furry friends. I can't recommend this facility enough, it gets the highest praises from me and I think from Felon & Ditto too! We'll be back for another visit when vacation time rolls around again. more
