Great service..they've lowered the price on weekend lunches 1/31/2009

I've been going to Todai for years. It is quite expensive but am glad to see they recently lowered their lunch price on weekends. The restaurant has been packed! The food is what you expect at a buffet. Not the best, but pretty decent. You have to remember, they have to keep replenishing it and some of the food sits there too under the heat lamps so it may not be that fresh if it is not a popular item. The shrimp tempura is fresh as it never stands sitting for more than a few minutes before they are snagged up. Mauricio is our favorite waiter. He is so attentive. Never have to ask for more water. He just brings it. Pros: Service Cons: Gets a bit noisy more

Not bad for a buffet 11/18/2006

The food definitely could be better at a real sushi restaurant, but this is a buffet. I don't see why people are complaining so much. Lately, the food has been tasting better too. The food is not the freshest, but it's not bad either. For a buffet, the quality is quite good. You get sushi, sashimi, crab legs, oysters. tempua, udon, yummy cakes, crepes and much, much more! My only complaint is the smell. It doesn't smell bad inside, but you leave with a strong restaurant smell. more

Too pricey! 4/21/2006

The restuarnt is located inside the Westfield Mall. My partner and I came here because we didn't want to walk into the food court. Boy, did we regret that! The food was not fresh at all. Plus the price was just too expensive to get such bad quality food. Never go back again. more

No choice at the mall! 8/14/2004

You're tired and haven't any choice, but you want sushi and too tired to drive after roaming the mall for hours. Too expensive for a buffet and certainly not worth eating sushi here (again, thin slices of nothing...what a freakin' joke)!!! Take my advice and drive some place else, have a sake and real sushi, believe me...you'll be relaxed and rewarded for your tiredness! Pros: convenience from mall Cons: , not real sushi more

TODAI IS THE BEST 10/20/2003

I HAVE BEEN EATING AT TODAI FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS AND I HAVE NOTHING BUT GOOD EXPERIENCES WITH THIS ESTABLISHMENT. THE FOOD IS FRESH THE SERVICE IS EXCELLENT AND THERE IS NEVER ANY LINE TO WAIT IN. THE DESSERT IS FRESH AND DELICIOUS. I TRY TO GO AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK IT IS THE BEST Pros: INEXPENSIVE, NO CROWD, ALL YOU CAN EAT more

Great for sampling variety of food 12/3/2002

It's a great place to go with a group where people aren't exactly sure what they want, because there's so much variety of food. I recommend the Arcadia mall location, haven't had to wait there (seated right away and can start eating immediately) and it's new and clean; better than the Sherman Oaks and Glendale ones. I think the quality of food is decent (great sushi cut rolls and desserts), and of course you can eat as much as you want. Note that the price is highest for weekend dinners, about $24 per person... it's cheaper on weeknights and at lunchtime (much less crowded also). Pros: huge variety, great desserts, fresh Cons: expensive, noisy more

Hardly to-dai for. 9/26/2002

The only thing worth visiting Todai for is their desserts. Minature versions of tiramisu and green tea cakes are their best. They have such flavor. Other than that, the food and service was terrible. It was a stampede to get in line - lots of push n' shoving customers. The waiters and waitresses did nothing exceptational to make it a pleasant evening. Sushi rolls and seaweed salad gave a sour lukewarm taste while the bean sprout salad looked rehashed from their afternoon buffet. Everything else didn't fare much better. Todai's French crepes MIGHT'VE worked if the chef knew what he was doing. Like I said, Todai is a buffet so you shouldn't expect too much. The desserts are the only thing worth visiting for, but if only there was a way to savor them without the hustle and bustle surroundings. Pros: Desserts Cons: Everything else more
