Travelling through Maine in January, 2008 and saw a great poster for a DJ night of British, Jamaican, and American Ska music at a bar called Three Tides. Called the bar and got great info on location, food service, bar and what to wear. Arrived and have to say that the atmosphere and quality of food, drinks and service were a surprise to see in the middle of Maine. And the music was great with a huge turnout of all age ranges dancing and enjoying themselves....in January! This place has been here for four years, just started making their own beer next door at the Mashall Wharf Brewing Company, and this is their slow time of year. My partner and I drank four of the five beers and danced and met quite a few very cool locals. If we come back to Maine I'll definitely make Belfast and specifically Three TIdes a place to visit again. ( a lot of the customers that night said that they like the fact that this place is "" undiscovered "" and that they feel like it is their own place, except during the height of the summer ) Pros: Cool concrete bartop with NO advertising, mirrors, posters, neon, etc in your face. A huge outdoor deck for the summer and a dock for their own lobstermen. Dim lighting and candles, and metal bathrooms! Cons: If you don't know it is here, well you will never find it except by accident. Off the beaten path on the harbor of this waterfront town. Closed on Sundays in the winter and Mondays year round. also they didn't take my Am Ex card......We love to find places like this, especially while on vacation.
Pros: ambience, knowledge of service, attention to detail, NO advertising
Cons: out of the way location, no am ex cards
