The Songwriting School of Los Angeles

I took a class here last summer and was so very pleasantly surprised and encouraged by my experience. Rob Seals, the instructor I worked with, was incredible. I took The Roots class, a fundamentals type songwriting class. And while it is in many ways a ""fundamentals"" type class, I worked with other students of all sorts of various musical and previous writing experience. Anyone and everyone can benefit from taking this class. Rob does a beautiful job of organizing and conducting the class based on all the students in the room and makes it engaging, educational and inspirational for everyone regardless of previous experience or background. I highly recommend taking a class here regardless of your experience level if you are an aspiring song writer or musician. You will not be disappointed. more

I am so inspired by this school's mission, by the diversity of students (yes race but also level, age, interest), and by the scope of classes available. It feels like a safe place to be myself and explore my songwriting. I have used the tools I learned here time and again and can't wait to figure out what I'll take next. The sense of community is wonderful, being around other musicians on regular basis talking about my greatest passion in any capacity is definitely how I want to spend my free time!! Pros: Songwriting haven and springboard. Cons: A little far from home and yet so very worth the drive. more

The Songwriting School (and teacher Rob Seals) gave me a place to do something bigger than learning to write great songs. It's a community of creative people - who are also really great at directing that creative passion into song. I always leave energized, inspired about my songwriting. But it's their passionate, personal approach to teaching that leaves me with something more powerful each time: The realization that it is MY personal story that can make great art. What they do is teach how to harness that unique story - and turn it into something universal ... a song. I know that sounds cheesy, lofty - but it's exactly why you'd choose The Songwriting School over ""How to write a hit song"" kinds of classes.
