Best Birthday Ever!! 5/1/2011

I was looking for the perfect place to hold a low key/stress-free 25th birthday party and read amazing reviews about the SKINny. This place was incredible! I called a few weeks early to reserve the mezzanine area and last night (4/30) was greeted with a smile and great service. The SKINny is a ""Classy Dive Bar"" which is exactly what I love. The ambiance is very relaxed and it was packed by the end of the night. Having the mezzanine was a plus as it did get very crowded on the ""skinny"" floor level. More people showed up than I had anticipated and the bartenders accepted everyone in. This is the perfect place to have a birthday party. Although it looks small, you could fit a ton of people (may have had 30-40 people in the mezzanine and a ton more downstairs). The DJ was playing fun music with a few 90's throwbacks and the birthday girl/boy drinks free all night (Awesome bartenders). Definitely recommend this for any event!!! I think I found my new favorite spot! Will be back for sure :) more

Typical bully door guy on Saturday 3/9/2010

This past Sat (3/6), I tried to get in around 3:30 AM to pick up my (very) tipsy friend who was from out of town and was to stay with me. Door guy said they were closing and weren't letting any people in. I tried to explain I just wanted to get my friend and he physically pushed me out the door. I tried to explain again (nicely) I'll just get my friend and leave and she's from out of town and he'd be responsible for anything that happened to her and he cursed me out and told me to ""get the F out of his bar"" and again pushed me. I took a pic with my phone of him and he wrestles me to get the phone out of my hand and finally ends up giving it back to me. And then some other little guy says ""do you want me to take care of this 'n' word?"" (I'm white for what it's worth) and I end up walking away. What a douche. Cons: door guy on weekends! more

Great Place to Party 2/10/2010

We reserved space here for my girlfriend's birthday, and we had a blast! Sean, the owner, checked in with us all night just to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. The drinks were inexpensive but the pours were generous, the music was great, and everyone there was having a great time. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is having a party or as a place to just drop by to have a good time. Pros: Great drink values, awesome atmosphere Cons: Drawbacks? more

We reserved space here for my girlfriend's birthday, and we had a blast! Sean, the owner, checked in with us all night just to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. The drinks were inexpensive but the pours were generous, the music was great, and everyone there was having a great time. Awesome party!!! 9/20/2009

I had my birthday here last saturday, and it was amazing! From the organizing with Sharon to the accomodating staff. We were in the mezzanine and Sean the Owner/bartender was So nice. The music was amazing and the doorman was even nice which never happens! I didnt even realize I got to drink for free cause it was my birthday and brought the party in. Whew.. Finally, a reason to go out on Sundays! 9/15/2009

I just had to take a moment from my very hectic life to turn people on to my favorite spot on the LES called Skinnys Bar & \r Lounge @ 174 Orchard st, Ny. I went there one Sunday night a few months ago and then, swear to God, had gotten my days off at work changed so I could become a regular there every Sunday! \r \r The DJ's there are off the Motha **ucking Hook!!! \r \r The DJ""s there are DJ Uncle Tone and Chilly B and what a mix they play!! The eclectic mix of various genres that they play is OFF THE CHAIN! They play everything from old school hip Hop, to classic rock to current favs and just when you think it can't get any better, your head is soon spinning cause it just won't stop! I have ceased to end up soaked in sweat from hard dancing every Sunday...... and it's not just me.... they get EVERYBODY on their \r feet and despite the diverse mix of people there, their music seems to please everyone... and I do mean everyone! \r \r They're so masterful at their craft that it's as though they're tag teaming your dancing soul. They're constantly playing songs you forgot existed and are grateful for the reunion. I have not missed one Sunday since the first time and have never had the same experience there twice. Always, always, always happy that I changed my work days to get my fix of this musical, dancing escape into my life. \r I HIGHLY suggest you check it out for yourself and if after you go, you think that I lied or even exaggerated about anything I said, than I'll certainly be willing to buy you a fresh battery for your hearing aid! RUDE BARTENDER 9/15/2009

I was had been sitting at the bar with 3 of my friends watching the opener of Monday Night Football. The bartender if you can call him that was the most immature person I have ever seen. To start off we asked for the PBR special and he tells us ""really, thats so cheap"" like he is an old friend. Then a little later his buddies come it and its all about ""tapping this and yo you f***ing crazy bi**"" He must not care to do his job as he sat on the bar talking to his friends. Several times we had to get his attention for service. As he was either talking on the phone or talking to his friends. One of my friends was on the way back from the bathroom and overheard him tell his buddies ""they are drinking cheap they can wait, what do you boys need"". He served his friends and then paid attention to us. A couple came in and I guess they knew him since he shook hands and said hello to them. I hope he knew them since he said to them ""I am leaving in a few min so lets settle up, I will charge you $5 as long as you make it up in a tip. Otherwise you would just pay full price and I will figure it out later"". I asked the guy if what he said I heard correctly and he just nodded. I had heard that Monday night was a cool rock night so that is the other reason we got there early. Heard it gets busy and figured, game/good music/good prices....will be busy get there early. Well I will say this, I will go to Skinny at night after 10pm. I love the bar and will continue to go, never again before 10, cheap drinks or not. Pros: Cheap happy hour Cons: GH**TO Happy Hour more

Came here on vacation just sippin on drinks. They do a good job making traditional drinks like a long island or a vodka martini, but they can do the not so traditional stuff too. I wouldnt come here again with my friends, but i'd hang here on vaca. Pros: Great for whatever occassion Cons: You pay for the local more
