Don't Waste Time at Wild Animal Park Journey into Africa 7/6/2010

The line for the Journey into Africa was about an hour long, and the ride was extremely dissapointing. The driver started with the safety rules, ""Please remain seated while the tram is in motion."" The driver should have said, ""You'll need to stay seated for the entire ride, because I'm not stopping."" We slowed down a few tiems, and that was about it. When I got home and looked at the photos, they were all blurred, because we were never fully stopped. I was in the last car, the last one to stop, and it moves forward with a lunge when the driver starts up. Pros: Lots of animals, Large enclosures Cons: Drivers rarely stop and then very briefly. Lots of Upsell more

The best safari trip in the US; the San Diego Zoo's Wild Animal Park is awesome! 8/31/2008

There's a reason why Trip Advisor puts the San Diego Zoo's Wild Animal Park in the US Top 10 list. The Park shows the animals in a natural environment, with lots of options to see over 3,500 animals from Africa and Asia, along with the California Condors, and several shows. The new ""Journey Into Africa"" Tour that comes with the Best Value Package (along with the Conservation Carousel) does cover only part of the open space FOR NOW. The Park is building 8 new exhibits in that area, (They're accepting donations) and the Asian area IS accessible up close with the Photo Caravans, Savannah Safari, and VIP Tours right now. The overnight Roar & Snore camping is something everyone should try. Wake up to roaring lions-- too cool! Pros: Great way to see animals, photo caravan, Roar & Snore sleepover, shopping, animal encounters, Lion Camp, California Condors, friendly staff, Cons: have to wear sunscreen more

Is the San Diego Wild Animal Park slowly heading downhill? 8/5/2008

The Wild Animal Park might have taken a wrong turn. July 26th, 2008 I took my friend to the Wild Animal Park because she had never been there before. Everyone needs to visit this place at least once?completely different than zoos and Sea World attraction parks. Pros: mostly non-caged animals in a somewhat natural environment, successful breeding, learning experience Cons: new bus, view 60% of animals (compared 3-4 years ago), no more monorail :( more

Wonder-filled place to relax and enjoy 10/11/2007

Go see the two baby elephants; they are so cute. (Get a map when you enter the park and walk to the ""elephant outlook."" Arrive early (9am) to see them up close.) The babies are Khosi, born September 11, 2006, and her half brother, Punga, born March 11, 2007. Two more babies are due this fall. Pros: Open air, friendly, great for families Cons: Short drive from town but worth the trip every time more

just go when the weather is good 10/30/2006

i went out here with friends and really enjoyed how close you were to wild animals in terms of viewing....it was very safe....but the clouds rolled in and rained on us for a little bit. other than that it was very fun more

Just ok 8/26/2002

While the Wild Animal Park is similar to the Zoo, it's not as interactive. You can't pet and play with as many animals as you can at the Zoo. There's a neat tram ride around the park, but you're lucky if you can get through it without getting stung by a bee! Beware if you go in the summer. The temperatures can get into the 100s. The shows are great though. Pros: good shows Cons: hot, not a lot to do more

Wild Safaris in San Diego 5/19/2002

The zoo is wonderful, but I use my membership to visit the Wild Animal Park much more. With so much wide-open space where the animals roam freely, you get a sense that this is the next best place for them than the wild. Learn about the park and zoo's conservation efforts, research and rescue on top of the wonderful facilities and it's clearly money well spent. It's impossible to do the Wild Animal Park properly in one visit, so buy a membership and visit several times a year. If you only have a day, take the monorail ride to catch the best of African and Asian wildlife. My husband surprised me with a photo safari for my birthday and we got to feed giraffes, pet rhinos and see the animals close-up. It was amazing. Pros: Wonderful Facilities, Shows, Enormous Cons: Crowded more
