Horrible Customer Service and Rude 9/15/2009

The Room Place, previously Harlem Furniture customer service is horrible and incompetent. I purchased a $4,000 sectional couch, delivery was last Thursday and set-up was incomplete. They neglected to hook the pieces on the rail so when you sit down the pieces move. They are too heavy for me to do by myself, so I called customer service within an hour of delivery and was told to hold on while she called the driver. She came back to the phone with an attitude saying the driver said I told him not to hook it up that I was going to move it later. Move it, the thing is a monster and there is NO where else to move it to! After arguing with me she said they would come back today and hook it up, after waiting all day they never showed up!! I called and they said I was not on the schedule, and told me to hold on. I was on hold for 30 minutes and finally hung up and called the store. I'm hoping the salesman can get them to complete the job, I will post later with the results. I still need bedroom furniture, dining room and a kitchen set, you would think the company would want the repeat business especially in this economic climate. If anybody knows of a ""reputable"" furniture store in the Chicago area please let me know Cons: Customer Service Rude, Delivery Service, Furniture more

less than one star 11/17/2008

Stay away from Harlem furniture. The funny part is that mother bought a bedroom set from there twenty years ago and she warned me not to go there. I went anyway, twenty years later and they are still the same dishonest people then and now. Not only they promised that my family room set would arrive in then days, but they said that we could use the wrong family room set that THEY DELIVERED WRONG until the correct furniture came in. More than two months later, today, they came to pick up the wrong furniture and deliver the correct one. Guess what? There was a spot on the chair and they refused to pick it up. They had us prepay for the wrong furniture and the replacement furniture including delivery scotch guard. When they left the furniture in our house for over two months and kept lying that the replacement furniture was on its way for two and half months, we asked them what would happen if the furniture gets dirty from use. They assured us since it was their fault, not to worry. Besides, it was ""scotch guarded... .we can easily clean it."" Today they told us they are not responsble, scotch guard does not keep it clean, they won't deliver the new furniture we paid them for and they won't pick up the old furniture. They have our money, which was subtantially more than what the wrong furniture they delivered was for...and we're stuck with this ugly furniture they did deliver. Harlem furniture should not be in business. They do not have one good review posted about them anywhere. All their employees graduate from the same ""school of ..."". They must all have the same training courses and graduate in ""how to cheat customers 101"". Pros: N O T H I N G Cons: DISHONEST more

Harlem Furniture - reclining furniture fails 3/1/2008

I spent 3 grand for microfiber reclining couches and chair. 1 year and 2 weeks later the mechanics bent and failed. Called Harlem and the only response was - Sorry it's out of warranty.\r \r 2 weeks over, and that was not from the delivery date, that is from the date you are in the showroom. \r \r Beware - search the net befor your purchase, you will find MANY reports of all types about Harlem. Pros: Furniture looks good Cons: mechanics of furniture fails WAY too fast. No support or service. more

The worst furniture store in the city 2/26/2007

The selection is not bad but the attitude of the employees is very bad and that is part of what you are paying for. They use a 3rd party contractor for deliveries and that was a real nightmare. They scratched my new hardwood floor and when I contacted Harlem Furniture to find out what could be done they merely said ""sorry, you have to contact our movers, we are not responsibile for them."" In short, the buck stops at the cash register and when they damage your house, apartment or the furniture you buy, they won't help you at all. Pros: Good parking, lots of salespeople to help you Cons: salepeople will lie to make a sale, they do not live up to the terms of their warranties more

Be Careful, Those guys Just Want your $$ 9/3/2003

I purchased a $3000 complete bedroom set and requested delivery to WI, and PAID $$$ for it!! Delivery in 4 wks ok!! it took 1 week to get an ansewer from customer service that delivery is delayed 2 more weeks. Thats totals: 4+1+2 = 7 weeks. Few days prior to delivery, I went to the store to buy a matress and asked to deliver with the bedroom. Got surprised: my delivery of the whole order was canclled and I got to pick it up from warehouse, 'cus out of state. NOW AFTER 6 weeks waiting!! ""don't worry, JUST buy the matress, we will deliver everything. Call tomorrow"". I was FOOLED AGAIN :( Promises, promises and promises!! I cancelled and lost 7 weeks of waiting If you don't care about your time, and willing to deal with proffissional theives, just step in the store; I assure you, you are ripped off. Pros: Many Branches to ripp, off more people Cons: poor Quality, cost, merchendize appears, REPAIRED more
