Editorial review from Citysearch 7/19/2012

During June we held our son's rehersal dinner in the Wine Cellar with over 50 people attending. The service was fantastic and the food was excellent. We had so many of our guest say how perfect it was for a group activity. I was very pleased with the Manager - Mark Donato who made sure our experience was excellent. If I had any areas for improvement the restrooms could have been maintained better. It was a Friday night and they were very busy. more

Unbelievable Wait 5/21/2012

Last week I attended a group luncheon here. After ordering, we had to wait an hour and a half for our food. We were told the order had been lost, and we had to place it a second time. I had ordered the Mandarin Chicken Salad with the dressing on the side as I do not like soggy. When my meal finally came, there was so much dressing on the salad overpowering all the other ingredients - couldn't have been any soggier. For dessert, we had a choice of vanilla ice cream or lemon sorbet, and I ordered the sorbet. After another wait, we were told that they were all out of lemon, and we would get mango instead. My group of between thirty and forty does lunch three times a year. Needless to say, we will talk with our feet. more

Avoid This Place Unless You Like Soup Lines 5/13/2012

Do not visit the Newtown Grill! All the reviews are 100% true but I believe in forming my own decisions. Biggest mistake. I made reservations for Mother's Day at 11AM and by 12:30PM decided to stop waiting in line. There was no one taking names at the desk and everyone just standing in line hoping restaurant staff would show up at the desk. People decided to avoid the line and go directly in front of the desk which annoyed me and others who patiently waited to be seated. The line to get food was at the front and combined with the reservation line - total chaos! They ran out of plates and the plates brought out were still dirty. That is when I said enough is enough and took my entire party to La Locanda Restaurant up the street. While leaving, we heard people state they were told they had to leave based on time limits. If you can not form a proper restaurant plan to serve brunch, you should not be in business. This is an upscale restaurant that was reduced to a depression soup line. I would never visit or recommend this place. Whoever is managing this- place needs to be fired. Rule #1 - You do not overbook reservations - you should value your reputation foremost. If you want a top notch restaurant experience, visit La Locanda Restaurant. In speaking with staff, they received many Newtown Grill customers who were feed up and decided to leave too. La Locanda saved Mother's Day from being a total disaster. more

Dirty plates and horrible manager Mark 5/13/2012

They took down what I wrote on their facebook wall so I'll have to rewrite it here along with a few other places. I was born and raised in Broomall. I have had more work and social functions at this establishment than I can count SO imagine my disgust today. No, it wasn't the gum on the chair that did it for me. No it wasn't the 45 minuet wait that did it. I contribute two things to it. One would be upon reaching the ""clean plate"" station for brunch (add ten more minuets on to dig through stacks and stacks of plates covered in chunks of food.) Not a single one to be found. I asked a waitress if she could bring myself, along with the crowds of people behind me some clean plates. (One woman actually said ""Maybe this is where you drop off your plates to be cleaned?"" - sadly no, it wasn't.) At this moment, the manager, Mark (whom I actually booked a wedding reception with in the past) came out and said to the waitress ""Forget her I need you to do something else."" Leaving me along with countelss other people in both shock and .. you guessed it.. without clean plates. Mark walked past several times (at one point with an entire crew of wait staff, head titled back laughing it up ignoring the multiple ""excuse me, we need help"" pleas coming from myself as well as other people) while all his customers stood there with no help. After years of recommending this place to all my friends, family, and clients I have never been so disappointed. And it wasn't just the food covered (and chipped) plates, it was the fact that a manager could care so little about his paying and extremely loyal customers. more

Newtown Grill--Great 1/3/2009

This place is now called The Newtown Grill, and is really great. Some of the food is a little pricey, but it is worth it when you taste it. My favorite steak is the filet mignon with a gorgonzola butter sauce. It's very tender, and the flavor is great. I usually pick at steak, but this one I eat every last bite. I've heard the aged NY strip is out of this world as well, but I've never had it. If you're in the mood for sandwiches, the italian syle cheese steak is awesome. My husband orders the italian style burger with the fresh mozarello and prosciutto, and says it might be his favorite burger around. I've heard the pork sandwich is fantastic, and the filet sliders are supposed to be great too. \r \r I've eaten here several times since it changed from Alberto's and have not been disappointed. There is a fireplace, which gives a very comfy feel. The bar selection is pretty good too. Pros: Awesome food Cons: The crowd is a little older, the servers can be a tad slow more

Excellent food 2/25/2008

Went on Sunday night for byob night, it was fantastic, the food was wonderful,\r and the prices were great. I had the striped bass, which was cooked to perfection,\r My husband had an aged new york strip that had an awesome seasoning, and\r tasted fantastic. My kids loved the pasta, and the cute shirley temple the sweet \r waitress brought for them. We really enjoyed the whole experience. This is our \r new favorite, much more comfortable than our old favorite Guissppies, and not as loud\r and noisy. more

The restaurant is improved to another level, after all this year of fancy want to be by Alberto.the new management is really smarter than the previous ,lowering the price and improving the menu selections.\r We love it ! more

GREAT FOOD ,VERY BUSY BAR 2/25/2008

FOOD IS BETTER THAN EVER.WE WENT LAST NIGHT AND THE FOOD WAS SUPERB.THE WAITER WAS VERY ATTENTIVE AND FUNNY AT SAME TIME.IT WAS MOBBED ,SPECIALLY @ BAR ,BUT THEY STILL MANAGE TO DELIVER GREAT FOOD. WE WALK IN WITH NO RESERVATIONS AND WE WERE SEATED WITHIN FIVE MINUTES.THE AGNOLOTTI WAS SCRUMPTIOUS,AND THE CHICKEN PADELA VERY TASTY.GREAT DRINK AT BAR SPECIALLY THE COSMOS AND MY WIFES CHOCOLATE MARTINI\r Pros: BEAUTIFUL BAR MENU VERY CHEAP,AND BYOB ON SUNDAY Cons: PARKING LOT ALWAYS FULL more

NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE 2/24/2008

I WENT TO THIS RESTAURANT LAST NIGHT. THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH PARKING, THE OUTSIDE WAS CHAOS. WE WERE SEATED RIGHT AWAY.......BUT IN THE WINE CELLAR. IT WAS COLD AND LONELY. THE WAITER WAS BAD. WE HAD TO KEEP CHANGING OUR ORDER BECAUSE THEY WERE OUT OF SO MANY THINGS ON THE MENU. INCLUDING DESSERT. IT OOK 1 1/2 HOURS TO GET THE FOOD. THE VEGGIES WERE RAW AND COLD, THE MEAT WAS NOT COOKED AS ASKED, THE PRICES WERE HIGH FOR ""OK"" FOOD. OUR WAITER OVER CHARGED US FOR AN ENTIRE EXTRA DINNER MEAL THAT WASNT ORDERED, HE SAID SORRY, AND WE NEVER SAW HIM AGAIN. AFTER WAITING OVER 20 MINUTES FOR HIM TO RETURN, WE HAD TO GO UPSTAIRS AND PAY OUR BILL IN THE HALLWAY. AWEFUL EXPERIENCE. more

Great Bar Menu in Delaware County,Reasonable, attentive service at the bar. 2/16/2008

This place is now called The Newtown Grill. I understand Alberto is not longer involved with this restaurant.\r We had a good dinner on the day before Valentine's Day. We ate at the bar. The Bar Menu is very nice and very reasonable. They have a funny looking slicer that cuts the proschiutto .Nice atmosphere with good piped-in music. My girlfirend tried the Bruscettas and I had the Rib-Eye steak. We were very pleased. I will go back. The cook at the slicer ,behind the bar, is a funny guy. A nice crowd mix at the bar,I will guess an age range between 30 and 55 . A good experience and ,most of all, a very reasonable tab.\r We were there when it was Alberto's, now is much better and less expensive.Bravo! Pros: Reasonable prices and lots of choices Cons: I rather park my own car more

Delicious, fun restaurant, very good italian food 2/16/2008

The pasta that i taste in this restaurant is the best anywhere.\r The BYOB on Sunday is a plus in this already much reasonable restaurant ,than Alberto. We were really surprise by the quality of the excellent slider /burgers at the bar .The waiter was very friendly too.We will go back soon . Pros: Very Very Good Food Cons: Parking lot under costructions more

best in delaware county.fantastic bar .superior in every category 2/16/2008

We ate there several times, and we never had a bad meal. The new management is definitely more relaxed than Alberto`s old grumpy hostess. Friendly bartender ,good price on drinks and a new affordable menu in the dining room,my steak was better than any other steakhouse including the city. Pros: casual ,confortable then ever for a still nice place more

the best new affordable restaurant anywhere 2/15/2008

Excellent food overall,we went last night for Valentine dinner and the place was packed in every way .The parking valet (it`s free, tip only , nice touch)was very friendly and prompt, the bar was really hopping with happy customers. We were seated in less then 10 minutes, our reservations was @ 7.30,and we had one of the best meal in a long time.I had the Lobster ravioli, very good ,and my husband the Rib eye steak ,both very Tasty!!\r the only draw back was the we could not find a seat @ bar ,after we finished our lovely meal .\r Definitely will be back and bring my Children's. Pros: very affordable for the quality Cons: wanted to go @ bar , but no body would leave more

Worst service ever 2/14/2008

I ate there last night for Valentines Day and the food was really good. Unfortunately the service was terrible. I expect slowness for Valentines Day but this was bad. We were seated quickly but after half an hour, not a single person had spoken to us about drink orders or anything. Finally they take our drink and food orders after sitting there 40 minutes. The food takes over an hour to come after numerous questions and the wine came after the food. The waitstaff never came to us to offer consolation, we always had to seek them out. This was happening all over the dining room I was in. For as expensive as our food was I expect to have a much better experience. Even for Valentines Day this level of incompetent service is unacceptable. Avoid this restaurant! Pros: Good food Cons: terrible terrible service more

Disapointed!!! 12/16/2007

We chose to go to The Newtown Grill to try something new and I will never go back again. \r \r The only positive thing that could be said about this restaurant is that the food was not horrible. But that does not nearly make up for all of the negatives considering there are plenty of other restaurants in the area with better food and a better atmosphere.\r \r The waiter was not friendly.\r They brought out the wrong appetizer.\r They forgot the dinner salad.\r We ordered calamari and mussels for appietizers and were told they would give us family style (there were 6 of us). My logical assumption would be that meant a larger portion for a higher price. I was in shock when our bill was calamari 3 @ 7.95= 23.85 and mussels 3@ 6..95=20.85, especially since the portion was that of a single appetizer at any other restuarant. \r We also ordered tiramisu to take home with us. I looked in the box when I got home (which was a 10 min drive) and was disgusted. It looked like vanilla pudding swirled with chocolate with a strawberry on top. Since when do you put a strawberry on Tiramisu.\r \r I would absolutley recomend going to Fellini's, Tratoria Guiseppe, Giampino's, Maggiano's or Vinny T's over this dump!!!\r Pros: The food didn't taste half bad. Cons: Everything else was wrong with it!!!! more

Customer Service is slow, unfocused and unpolished! 11/27/2007

I have been to this restaurant before & had a good experience however the opposite was true last week. We were greeted at the door & seated promptly. It was down hill from there. The waitresses were rather gruff -- more suitable for a chain restaurant. We ordered 3 bottles of wine before they finally had one in supply. Their reason was they were busy the night before. Each time we waited 10 - 15 minutes. Famished, we finally ordered our meals. An hour and a half into our experience, our food arrived. Less than one minute later the waitress arrived to check on our meals. Almost immediately thereafter, one guest found he was served pork instead of the lamb he had ordered. He decided to eat it to avoid another hour late but we attempted to get our waitress and it took another 10 minutes to get someone. We flagged someone and sent them for our waitress & they immediately told her (across the room that we needed her). She then walked into the kitchen instead of coming over to us. She only emerged when she saw we had asked for the manager. We were all more than 1/2 way through our meals. \r \r You'll love this, the waitress said, ""I checked with you, why didn't you tell me then that you had the wrong meal?"". Yes, it was our fault! \r \r I believe this restaurant may have just changes hands from Alberto's Italian Steak House to Newtown Grill. I would bet that they will not stay in business for very long. more

Overbooking, waiters that write in 20% tips on your slip 5/13/2007

This restaurant blew it for me by overbooking on Mother's Day such that people with reservations a week in advance had to wait 1/2 hr. to be seated (guess they figured on such a day they could get away with it). It was a buffet brunch, with standard items. The coffee was watered down. Then the server HAD THE AUDACITY to WRITE IN HIS 20% TIP ON MY CREDIT CARD SLIP HIMSELF! It's a buffet, what did he do for us except pour weak coffee? This is why I'll never go there again or recommend it to anyone. Pros: good food Cons: waiters that write in 20% tips on your slip more

Best in Delaware County!!!! 12/9/2006

I have been to Albertos for many occasions from a romantic dinner for two in the wine cellar to a banquet held for 50. Each experierence has been better then the previous. The food is excellent!!!!! The location is perfect. The dining rooms are beautiful and the service was impeccable EVERY TIME! They will make you anything you want if it is within the realm of possibility. Lastly, the price was right too. You don't pay for a dinner and leave hungry there the portions are more than generous and that goes for the martinis as well. I suggest you go dinner and for sunday brunch and try the wine they produce themselves. Pros: all good more

Every meal has been fantastic 2/9/2006

We eat at Albertos quite often and have never had a bad meal. The steak is done with a prefect seasoning and almost melts in your mouth. The pasta's have been equally enjoyable. Service has been efficient and prompt. great bartending staff. Pros: great parking, great steaks more
