Not all that 8/14/2002

The museum is great and has an amazing collection but its not the best art museum in the city. Its way too big and crowded. Good luck finding your way around, the maps don't even help. I suggest MOMA or the Guggenhiem for a person who is more interested in seeing some great artwork without hassle. more

Heart of the World 8/8/2002

The Met's collection lets us have a look at the hearts and minds of artists from all over the world, from past to present. Reserve time for it, and go often. more

Changed my view of the world 7/31/2002

The Metropolitan Museum has made my life what it is today, giving a comprehensive collection of world art that is hardly surpassed anywhere in the world. One could argue that it is more comprehensive than the Prado and more accesible than The Louvre. One could, but if you are in New York and you miss the Met. From the African and Primitive arts, to the Renaisance and Egypt, Greek and Roman... Pros: Vermeers, Papua New Guinea, Van Goughs Cons: Schiele in basement more

No place like it in the world! 7/31/2002

You'd have to be stone-cold to not get some pleasure out of the Temple exhibit, the photographs or whatever visiting exhibit is there. A classic! more

Best 7/25/2002

I grew up within a few blocks of the Met and made it my home. It not only has art, but an armory, a chinese garden, the American wing which begins in the 17th century and creates rooms floor by floor until the present. I only miss the fountain in the cafe. more

worth visit 7/23/2002

One of the best collections worldwide. If you are around tou might not miss it. Pros: The collection Cons: Crowded more

You'll never do it... 7/18/2002

Wow. That ought to be my review, but I'll also say this. The thing that's frustrating about this place is that you can never finish it. By the time you see (and not just run past) everything, they've made changes to everything else. Impeccably run, if confusingly laid out- this place is home to some of the most amazing things I've ever seen, and I can honestly say it's one of my favorite places in the world. The exhibits aren't always the greatest, but the only negative for me is the fact that it is always amazingly overcrowded. The best time to go is on a weekday in February, early in the day. No strollers are allowed on Tuesdays, which usually means no crying babies...guess which day I go. more

The Art of NYC 7/1/2002

OK, it's on the periphery, but nonetheless the skyline takes center stage at this lovely rooftop haven. A spectacular view from the center of it all -- really breathtaking in its scope and diversity. Oh, and there's art and wine and stuff, too. more
