Novelty yarn for Newbies 7/2/2006

If you're a newbie knitter with a wad of cash to blow, this is a great place to pick up some novelty yarn-- you know, the kind with little bobbles and ribbons and sparkles-- for your first scarf. If you've ever knitted a sweater, you'll want to go elsewhere. The way they organize their yarn - by color - is spectacularly un-useful, and each bin will have only two or three balls each of widely differing yarn types. They don't carry many of the basic quality brands, and the one time I asked about a particular type they promised to let me know when it came in and then never got back to me. One of the employees is also quite rude. I highly recommend Knitting Arts in Saratoga. It's a trek from Menlo Park, but well worth the time. more

Knitters Studio 6/14/2006

The Knitters Studio is a beautiful yarn store, I could spend hours just browsing. Their selection of yarn is great, but it is overpriced. All the yarns are priced over MRSP, be sure to check the sale bins! more

Way too upscale for its own good 4/4/2006

I have been to Knitter's Studio a couple of times, mostly because I was already in Menlo Park. I wouldn't make an effort to go there -- in fact the other day I knew my LYS was closed so I went all the way to Los Altos to find another one, skipping Knitter's Studio entirely. They have the organizational scheme I hate -- organizing yarn by color rather than brand. I went in one day and asked for a rather standard yarn store yarn, and not only did they not have it, but the employee I talked to said "We can't carry everything ..." like I had asked for something rare, which I had not. And they do appear to have a lot of yarn, just most of it appears to be novelty yarn and how many scarves can one person make? more

great store 8/15/2005

the people are extremely helpful and very knowledgeable. they can help you find the right yarn and needles for your project. they also offer lessons. it's usually not very busy so you can get all the personal attention you need. the yarn is fairly expensive, but no more so than any other knitting store. they also have a huge bookshelf of knitting books. more

A Knitting Circle! 7/16/2005

Knitting is so in nowadays. Everybody’s doing it, including every wannabe celebrity. But that doesn’t change the fact that knitting is cool and very practical. (I love cable-knit sweaters, and hand made cable-knit sweater cost hundreds of dollars each. So make your own like I plan to!) This great shop located right in downtown Menlo Park is a knitter’s haven. Buy some yarn and sit down and knit in the store. There are round tables set-up just for this purpose. The shops also provides expertise in the form of classes and helpful sales associates. Learn to knit is a warm friendly environment and make new friends while you pearl! more
