I'm the original Nervous Nellie when it comes to getting my hair cut by a new stylist and I've cried many tears over a bad cut. So you can imagine I wasn't the easiest client to be sitting in her chair. Jen did a fantastic job of putting me at ease, talked over what I wanted and delivered a perfect cut. I had a great experience because of my stylist, Stacy South. She brought a great energy to the place, and I loved my hair cut and color. She made great suggestions and I trusted her, and, in the end, I was very happy I did. Usually I'm hesitant to try new things.\r \r I could tell she's been doing it awhile. I have been going to The Cut Salon for a few years now, after having read great reviews on Citysearch. I have never received so many compliments on my hair (on both color & style) as after I started going there, and I can honestly say that this is the best color & cut I have ever had - thanks to Sarah, she's the best!! I wouldn't go anywhere else now (and I've tried very expensive salons in the past, and was often very dissatisfied and disappointed). The prices here are very reasonable, service is great and atmosphere is very friendly and relaxed, not to mention the skills of the stylists! I very, very highly recommend it. You know how great it feels when you enter a sushi restaurant and the chef and the waiters greet you with enthusiasm? Well, walking into the Cut Salon is taking a 180 opposite that experience, and into a mausoleum. I have gone to Sarah at the Cut for almost five years, and it is with utter disappointment that I write this negative review. In the past year, I feel like she has just been going through the motions, and that she couldn't care less for me as her devoted client. No one else, including the owner, has given me a sense of professional welcome. The straw that broke my camel's back, landed during my last visit. I got there on time for my appointment and sat a few feet from Sarah's station. Although she and the receptionist, Ashley, saw me come in, I was ignored for 20 minutes till I said something to Ashley, and was told that Sarah was half way through with her client. It didn't occur to Sarah or Ashley to let me know that things were running late; and to apologize and ask to see if I wanted tea or something. I felt so disregarded that I finally made an excuse and left. I never heard from Sarah, and a week later went to Sit Still, instead. What a world of difference. Yes, there can be life while hair gets cut, and yes, stylists should and do care about their clients and check in with them if they are running late. Tommy at Sit Still did. Try Jeanie, I went to her and didn't regret my haircolor.She listened to what I asked her to do and did it right. Pros: reasonanle prices, people are nice, parking is free and easy Cons: the receptionist acts like it's forbidden to speak to the hairstylist when you've called or ask her to call you back more

Donna has been cutting my boys' hair since they were babies and always makes them look handsome. The Cut is a really nice, low-key place in our neighborhood where everyone knows us and appointments are easy to get. It's a great value for the money, too. I have quite difficult hair to work with: frizzy and fine, but also very thick. Kyong styled my hair beautifully, so that now it is quite easy to make it look good. The salon is low-key, not like the frantically trendy places which have infected the Westside. The service is personal. There is a parking lot. There is nothing at all bad about this salon, and I recommend it, definitely planning to return. This was my first visit. Jean C. is awesome! I have very fine hair and she was able to work miracles with it. As a life-long Los Angelino, I have tried many different salons in the area -- comparatively speaking, The Cut's pricing is very competitive for the quality of service you get. In addition to a fabulous cut that completely revived my thin and overworked hair, I got the BEST highlights I have ever had. I have dark brown hair, and Jean managed to give me a textured look with warm caramel and beige-y strips. She was able to lighten my hair without turning it white or yellow/brassy. I left the salon with a very polished and sophisticated cut and this was no small feat considering the state of my hair when I walked in! The atmosphere at the salon is also very chill and unpretentious. There is plenty of free and available parking in the rear so you don't have to stress out or leave the house two hours early to make your appointment. Finally, Jean took the time to listen to me and I felt totally comfortable telling her what sort of style and cut I wanted. She is also super intuitive and gave me some great suggestions for both my cut and color. She is excellent at her craft and I will definitely keep going back to her!!! : ) more

I had the pleasure of having Lindsey cut my hair today. She was awesome. I had had a very, very bad haircut from another salon that took over two months to grow out. I was pretty nervous to get another haircut, but I had read all these great reviews about this place. Lindsey ended up giving me a corrective haircut that was exactly what I had in mind. She listened, was attentive, and friendly. She gave me great suggestions of what to use on my hair given its texture and length. Thank you Lindsey for a wonderful cut!! You're great! :) more

The salon appears unassuming with its minimalistic decoration and lack of superfluous furniture, but these hair stylists, I believe, are some of the best in the business! I love how my highlights and haircut has turned out each time I've gone. They work with you to make you're getting exactly the style you're looking for. The price was on par with other salons I?ve frequented. Still, remember to ask for the discount if you?re a first-time customer. more

Am always wary of anonymous internet reviews, especially ones that contain contradicting views. The Cut has been around for a long time and is staffed by pros, offers pretty good music from XM Radio, and is run efficiently by Mary, Ashley and Alisa. I know a guy who can afford to go anywhere and comes here from MDR. I like to shop local so i walk by there almost everyday. Was with Donna years ago and found Staci one time last year and am with her now. She even volunteered to help with a theatre project! I have plenty of good hair days now. Recommend, great value, easy tempo, usually steady but never over-amped. Funky neighborhood. more

I have never been to a more horrible salon in my life. The moms owner is pushy and rude!! and to top it off always has her thong hanging out of her jeans!!! Yuck. not a sight for relaxing and pampering. The manager Alyssa is a scam and the receptionist has no idea what she's doing. There is no organization and to be honest for the cheap prices no wonder. i might as well have gone to super cuts. there are about three stylist there that are good enough to work in a salon that offers them something more.... I will never go there and will continue to spread the word and recommend that others never think about EVER going there and wasting money!! more

Fun hair salon. They offer cuts and color. It's helpful to make appointments, but walk-in's are always welcomed. They have a good selection of hair care products to keep your hair looking good. The staff is very nice, but I always look for Donna. She's a popular stylist who's been there for awhile and knows many of the neighborhood clients. They do have some parking in back, but there is usually space available in front. more

I have just returned from my first visit to The Cut salon and have never been more delighted with my results. After careful consultation with various colour charts, Jean, hailing from Dublin Ireland went to work. I have a tendency to put my complete faith and trust in stylists' judgment- isnt that what we pay them for? Today, for once, I was moe than glad I did. Jean will give you the God's honest truth- noting that my previous highlighting treatment had left my dark brown hair, in a word...'orange.' She was able to tell, right off the bat that my highlights had never been 'toned' after the initial colouring/bleaching and was sure to rectify that error this time round. As someone with extremely curly hair, one of my pet peeves is stylists' underestimating the shrinkage factor that comes into play once my hair dries- often leaving my hair an inch or two too short. Jean made sure to diffuse-dry my hair BEFORE cutting it- arguably more challenging with curly hair but it meant I walked out with a style, color and lenght that I was delighted with.\r \r A chilled out, casual vibe envelopes this salon and the friendly staff make it a pleasure to while away an hour (or three) when those dead-ends call for it. If you can, ask for Jean- a very talented stylist who will give you the honest opinions and advice you need when it's time to make a change. And she's great craic to boot!! Over a year ago, I went to the Cut Salon, because I was new to the area, saw the reviews on Citysearch, and needed a reasonably priced haircut. Needless to say, I went with little expectation. Much to my delight, I met a very talented stylist--Jean (aka ""the Irish one)-- whom I have since become a loyal fan and client. She has given me great cuts and highlights in the year plus that I have been going to her (and I am often asked where I get my haircut). When I want any type of change, I ask Jean's advice, and she has given me her professional opinion about what looks good and what doesn't. I have complete faith in her talent, and think she is hilarious as well--something a Chicagoean can appreciate. \r \r As for the salon, it is less pretentious than the other salons of Santa Monica. I have spent a lot more at other places and have been a lot less satisfied. From my perspective, excellent value and talent. more

My first visit here was better than average. Jean was my stylist and she was very friendly and skilled. She listened to what I wanted and gave me what I asked for. Highly recommended. Only critique I have of the salon was that the receptionist didn't offer or give me the discount they advertise for first time customers. more
