Best

Please don't listen to the reviewer who recommends two *chain* restaurants instead of this kooky, eclectic, awesome restaurant tucked away on 9th street. I can't think of a bette...

Bland, uninteresting flavors catered to an audience unaccustomed to real Mexican food. I grew up in New Mexico and Los Angeles, so I know Mexican food and this place leaves much ...

simple and delicious 6/13/2002

I usually hate this kind of place and I wanted to when my wife and I went....but instead I found the food fresh and really very tasty. No overcook dry beans - or ill prepared sauces. Just simple really good mexican food. more

Cheap? Bah Humbug! 6/13/2002

I love the burritos at Cosmic Cantina, but I don't call $7 for a burrito and five tortilla chips served in a plastic basket cheap!!!. Granted, it's only $6 if you skip the sour cream & guac, but who wants to do that??? My idea of cheap is a burrito *with* rice & beans on the side served on a real plate by a real waiter for around $5 at ElRodeo, or a Fajita for under $3 at Armadillo Grill. Now that's Cheap! more

Fresh & Good 6/11/2002

Great cheap eats!! The best chicken quesadilla I've ever had! more

Cheap, healthy, and DELICIOUS!!! 5/28/2002

Cosmic Cantina is as good as you can get as far as delicious, inexpensive, filling, and healthy Mexican food. As a college student, I gravitate to low-cost eateries and Cosmic Cantina offers a welcome alternative to cheap and greasy artery-clogging burger joints and pizza pubs. I suggest the vegetarian burrito which is only $3 and a complete meal in itself. If you're looking for meat, try the chicken burrito with marinated grilled white meat chicken. Nachos and salads are a good choice as well. Cantina is an everyday stop for me; I highly suggest it for anyone looking for a healthy, filling and inexpensive meal! Pros: quite inexpensive, very healthy, large, filling portion Cons: limited parking more

outstanding flavor, and urban charm 5/13/2002

This is my all-time favorite place for burritos. The distinct combination of flavors in the $5 regular chicken version is superlative--yes, even for west coast standards. You just can't beat fresh, healthy ingredients (cilantro, lime, rice, beans, marinated chicken), authentic or not. However the tacos do leave something to be desired--don't expect to find yummy carne asada (even though it still beats El Dorado).\r \r Tight-quarters, weathered wooden interior, rooftop-style patio--all make for the coziest of atmospheres typical of the hippest hangouts. Urban charm at its finest--right here in Durham. more

Great summer hangout 5/12/2002

Granted, you shouldn't come here expecting fabulous Mexican food. What you SHOULD expect is a nice, casual dining experience outside on the patio--when it comes to having a beer on Cosmic Cantina's deck, there simply isn't a better way to spend a summer evening. Pros: Nice patio Cons: Gets crowded more
