I was definitely did not disappoint was the food. While the shrimp and grits I ordered did not resemble the traditional preparation of the dish, the edition presented at The Chesapeake Room was incredible. The grits were encapsulated in a fried bedding that rested atop plump shrimp drenched in a satisfyingly complex sauce consisting of spicy accents to an alcohol based tomato sauce. The house cured bacon was also fantastic. I am not exactly sure how they prepared the bacon, but suffice it to say that they made bacon taste even better than usual.
If the brunch menu was a simpler, more watered down version of the dinner menu (as I would expect), I'm thinking that the kitchen might bottle up greatness in the evening hours. The Chesapeake Room is certainly an exceptional addition to the Barracks Row neighborhood. I expect to be a regular.
Pros: decent bar and great food
Cons: brunch could be better but a solid choice
