Awesome Art 10/23/2005

Although Warhol's most popular art is now on exhibit across seas... it is still worth a visit to the Andy Warhol museum! It is an overall fun place with very interactive exhibits (such as the silver clouds room) and video clips you can watch (some from the productions Warhol made himself!) Best of all.. there is an activities room in the basement where you can either pay for some cool Warhol'esqe photos or make your own project for free! the free projects change constantly, so its worth checking out! more

Unusual and interesting museum 10/15/2005

This museum has interesting items on display and changes the attractions frequently. This is a nice place to spend the day as there is a small coffee shop with a variety of pastries and coffees. The museum has an interactive art studio where visitors can make some of the screen prints that made the artist , Andy Warhol, famous. There are some days that offer free admission.Check for some live shows there, too. Many local artists perform here. more

Gotta love the Pop art 9/2/2005

The Warhol is one of the many great attractions in Pittsburgh, to see the actual works all around you is quite breathtaking. Its recommended taht you take the elevator to the top, then walk down the 6 or so floors. Check out the "silver balloon" room whcih everyone has a great time going into. Sometimes they are doing renovation to certian floors prohibiting you from seeing some of his finer works of art. The cafe in the muesum is fairly nice also. If you have a giant eagle advantage card you can get your admission "buy one get one" which will save you a ton of money. Love the warhol! more

Best Modern Art in the 'Burg 8/23/2005

The Andy Warhol Museum is a must see for anyone visiting Pittsburgh. It showcases one of the greatest pop artists to emerge from Pittsburgh. With its classic displays such as the Madonna portraits and Campbell's soup cans ranging all the way to it's temporary exhibits it's a great experience for the whole family. more

Worth a visit! 8/20/2005

The Andy Warhol Museum houses many of Warhol's more memorable works in the multi-story building. While his art is fascinating, there are exhibits that have clippings he collected throughout his life, from receipts to newspaper clippings. The clippings help provide a timeline of Warhol's life, and incite into his regular run-ins with major stars and trips on the Concord. A favorite for everyone is the silver-balloon, which will make the museum visit worth it even for children [note that some of his art might not be appropriate for young children...]. more

Eclectic 8/19/2005

The Warhol museum is much more than a collection of Campbell soup cans. Aside from hosting most of his works, the museum also displays collections of other artists and also holds lectures. The museum has seven floors in all, with the basement having a cafe. The museum will often show underground films by Warhol and his friends. The museum admission can be somewhat pricey. Go on Fridays when it is half-price. more

Interesting collection of pop art 8/19/2005

The Warhol is subject to a lot of criticism for some reason. Andy Warhol always did have his fans and detractors. But whether or not you like his work, it’s very rare for a museum to be built around just one type of art, let alone a single artist, so the museum is worth seeing if only for that reason. Plus, the silver clouds are just too cool to miss. Since its opening, the museum has expanded its collection to other pop artists, and is building a very impressive collection. Rotating exhibits are well chosen and also offer great examples of pop art. more

Great Modern Art Museum 8/16/2005

While this museum prominently features Warhol’s work, there are several other artists’ pieces on display that are amazing as well. What really makes this museum unique is that seeing all of the artwork by Warhol, you realize why he was such an amazing artist, even if you were not a fan before. Seeing it up close, you realize the genius mind of Warhol. The cost is pretty good for the amount of art featured in this museum, and if you enjoy modern art, it is easy to spend the day here. more

Andy Warhol immersion! 8/16/2005

The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, PA is an unlikely spot for a museum like this, but he went to school here... So that seems to justify it I suppose. It has an impressive collection of his lithos, magazine work, paintings, and video. It have six stories of Warhol content as well as an archive (my appointment only) and a great cafe in the basement. It might be the best cafe in the whole city--not saying much. Admission is steep but students (CMU at least) get a discount. It's worth checking out. Parking is pay only in the lot across the street or the structure (cheaper). more

If you like "pop" art... 8/16/2005

this is a great place to go. I enjoyed seeing the various exhibitions (of course I liked the silver balloon room just as much as everyone else!) When I was there a year or two ago, they had an exhibition in which they juxtaposed some of Warhol's celebrity portraits against traditional Asian silk screens of emperors. It was interesting to compare the similarities/differences in portrait style. I think right now they are featuring some of John Water's work, and he's always pushing the envelope, so I'm eager to go see his exhibit. more

15 minutes 8/15/2005

Many people struggle with Andy Warhol's art. The museum's guest book overflows with entries from visitors who don't get the "art" but love the room full of silver balloons. It takes some context and imagination for the casual art fan to understand what Warhol did and what his works mean. This endeavor is best undertaken, I believe, on one of the Warhol's friday night happy hours. Pop art, beer, and maybe a visiting electroclash band. Good times. more
