Probably the worst dining experience of my entire life 6/16/2010

I'm really not exaggerating when I say that. The service is horrendous. My husband and I went there with another couple last night. The girls ordered sushi and the guys ordered hot dishes off the Thai menu. We all ordered tea and they gave us one small pot that barely filled all our glasses. We had to repeatedly ask for more; they did not refill beverages without being prompted. 40 minutes after we ordered we still had no food. Finally the waitress came out and said that they guys' food was done, but the sushi wasn't, so did we want her to bring out the hot food while it was still hot? How on earth the hot food was finished first is beyond me, since sushi is extremely quick to prepare, but we said yes, please bring it out while it's hot. It was another 20 minutes before we saw it, and our sushi still wasn't done. My husband and I are vegetarians, and he ordered a dish off the vegetable menu. He got 5 bites into it and discovered pork in his rice. At that point we were ready to tell the server to forget the whole thing, but we didn't see her again for another 20 minutes, at which point she finally brought out the sushi. As soon as she put the sushi down on the table I knew something was wrong, because we've ordered the same dishes there before and they didn't look the same. I asked the server about it and she insisted that everything was correct. I ordered a tempura tofu roll and it was barely edible. The tofu had so much fried batter surrounding it that it wasn't like eating sushi, it was like eating those little fried bits that line the bottom of the tray at Long John Silver's. It was absolutely disgusting, and I didn't even finish it. My spring roll really wasn't at all edible. The pieces were enormous, and poorly assembled, so that you couldn't pick them up or bite into them without them falling apart. It was also missing asparagus, one of the ingredients listed on the menu. When I asked about this at the register the girl who prepared the sushi admitted that they were out and neglected to tell me. It took so long for the server to come back after she brought the sushi finally we got fed up and went up to the register without a check to see if we could just pay and leave. They did not apologize at all, or even acknowledge that they had done a terrible job, even though we were clearly unhappy, as they had to take half of our meal off our check. We will absolutely never go back, and when this place inevitably goes out of business we will throw a huge party and celebrate the presence of a little less evil in the world. Pros: reasonably priced Cons: horrible service, food is barely edible more

Disappointed 2/27/2010

This has been one of my favorite restaurants in Cedar Rapids for some time. My wife and I went there recently and she ordered Princess Triple Delight. She was brought Triple Delight. The waitress went to inquire with the chef and came back to say he indeed prepared Princess Triple Delight. There's quite a difference between the two and we checked the menu again. No broccoli, mushrooms, peanuts, or spice was in my wifes meal. She mentioned it to the waitress again when she brought the check and pointed out specifically what was missing. The waitresses response is what put this over the top. She said ""well I hope you got a little of the taste you were looking for"" turned around and walked away. WHAT??? Are you kidding? Oh well, needless to say we won't ever be back. Too bad, the food is good. more

Better than average 5/25/2009

I have eaten at Thai Moon on several occasions during lunch. Their lunch specials are priced well and available each day of the week. Expect to spend about $10 for meal, drink, and tip. Service has always been very good with my softdrink refilled without having to ask. I like spicy food so I concentrate only on the Thai lunch specials, especially the curry dishes. The food has been good, above average, but not great. If I was able to I would rate Thai Moon at 3.5 stars. I think Siamville on the northeast side of Cedar Rapids has the best Thai food in the area, but Thai Moon is good and more convenient for me to go to. Pros: decent food at decent prices, nice decor Cons: lacking bold, exciting flavors more
