Fast, courteous and outstanding food! 2/12/2009

Fast and courteous service and food is outstanding! I love this restaurant. We are so spoiled that we live close by- so we go here often. And I am kind of a food snob from the East Coast so believe me when I tell you I have never been disappointed by the food here. I love the pad thai- not greasy and the mixed veggie stir fry has a wonderful light and fresh sauce! I have never written a review before but this restaurant inspired me. Go here! Pros: Food is excellent, very inexpensive, service is lightning fast and friendly! more

Thai food lover proclaims to the sky: BEST THAI FOOD IN PORTLAND OREGON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1/11/2009

I love love love love love love love this place.\r The staff is almost always amazing. (Every once and a while they will be a little off their game.... rarely)\r The food is ALWAYS amazing. They have it down to a science there. Literally. I have NEVER gone away unhappy... and I would estimate that I have eaten here almost 200 times. Not as much anymore since it is up in NOPO, but it is worth the drive. \r Not to mention, the food always comes out crazy fast.\r Anyway. There is a ton of mediocre thai food in Ptown, a fair amount of good thai food in ptown and only ONE THAI GINGER with the BEST thai food in Ptown. And Kah (? probably NOT how you spell that) is the best server. \r Pros: AMAZING FOOD, SPEEDY-GREAT SERVICE, GREAT TAKEOUT, PROMPT SEATING Cons: The halogen lights at night make the restaurant look strange... kills the ambience.... more

Good food, great prices, always good service. 12/28/2008

I have been to Thai Ginger for eat-in, take-out, with kids, without kids and have never been disappointed. The prices are reasonable and the food is consistently good. The service is always good too. Love the pumpkin curry and the fresh salad rolls. Pros: everything Cons: nothing more

Great Take Out! 12/6/2008

I have never dined in the restaurant, but my family gets take out from here at least once a week. The food is always fabulous and is ready so quickly, we call to order and then head over right away to pick it up. Everytime we have guests at our house we get take out from here and all who have had the food love it! Friends who have spent time in Thailand(months at a clip) have all been very impressed with the authenticity.....all I know is I crave it! Great curry and noodle dishes...pad kee mao(spell?) is great! Yummy! Pros: Quick take out and great food Cons: Don't know of any more

Dont know the meaning of customer service 2/22/2008

The worst restaurant experience I have ever had in the Portland Metro area. Went to lunch with a group of friends and we all ordered at the same time. Everyone in the group ordered Pad Thai and my friends all recieved their orders and I was told that mine was on the way by our waiter. After 10 minutes I inquired with the waiter about my ordered and was told again it was coming. At this time my lunch group is already a quarter to half done with thier meals. 5 more minutes pass and the waiter brings me the wrong order. I have recieved no apology for the long wait and inquire what has happened to my simple order of Pad That that everyone at my table is eating. I am told at that time that my order was given to another customer. I have still recieved no apology from the waiter and after my lunch group has finished thier lunch my order finally arrives with a to go box in his hand. If I wanted my meal to go I would have ordered it to go. Due to the mistakes of the restaurant I ask for a discount on the price of the meal and was given none and still no apology and the staff take no responsibility of thier mistakes. I refused to pay for the meal and got up to leave. As I leave I hear the waiter offer a person in my lunch group my meal for free. This upset me the most in that the restaurant staff takes no responsibility for thier lack of the word service. They were not willing to give me, an African American customer, a discount for thier lack of service but offered my White co worker my meal for free. \r \r Good food is only part of what makes a good restaurant. Good service is also a huge part in the experience and when you recieve none, the food does not taste that good anymore. I have been to hundreds of restaurants and have run into mistakes happening. At every other place I have dined the staff always apologized for the mistake and took responsibility. Thai Ginger does not know what the word personal responsibility is and the food is just ok. more

Third Time's a Charm.. or NOT! 2/22/2008

I have ordered to go orders from these guys three times. ""Every"" time they have gotten the order wrong. Personally I think it is because they play their music so loud that conversation is impossible. They definitely won't be seeing me back there again. Cons: Don't Listen more

One of my favorites 9/11/2007

My family have been regular patrons of Thai Ginger for a few years now. While a recent change of ownership has, in my opinion, resulted in a slight lessening in the quality of the food, it's still one of the best Thai restaurants I've been to in Portland. To describe it another way, Thai Ginger used to be my favorite Thai restaurant in town; it is now perhaps my second favorite. Despite the different ownership, however, many of the wait staff are the same, and they are always happy to see us. I have never had anything but good experiences there, both in terms of the food and in terms of the service.\r \r I do wish they'd move to a nicer location, though. ;) more

Disappointed... 8/31/2007

I have been a loyal and frequent patron of Thai Ginger since I moved into the North Portland neighborhood (about 2 years now) and recently I received such awful service that I will NEVER be back nor will I recommend this restaurant to anyone. A friend and I went into Thai Ginger on a busy Friday evening... we expected that we might have to wait for a table, but when a table came available (after waiting 20 minutes) a group of people that came in after us were seated first. We were not asked if we would mind waiting longer for a table, we were simply told that another table would be opening up soon. There are far too many good Thai restaurants in the Portland area to be offending loyal customers. I recommend going somewhere else, that's what we did. Pros: Fast take out Cons: Bad Seating, bad parking, bad service more

I LOVE Thai Ginger!!!!!!!! 6/7/2007

The BEST Thai food ever! We eat their a couple of times a month and have never been disappointed. I love the yellow curry and the pad thai. Lunch portions are smaller and a bit cheaper and the dinner portions are significantly larger. My significant other and I will order the dinner portion of the yellow curry and split it and there is more than enough. I think that it is cheaper than other thai restaurants and better. Staff is very friendly as well. Give it a try! Pros: excellent food, friendly staff, water never goes empty : ) more

The Best Thai food ever! 11/12/2006

This small restaurant located in North Portland is a quaint refreshing refuge with amazing food. Thai Ginger's menu reflects an extensive, well thought out profile of the areas finest thai food. Even when I travel to larger cities with the ""worlds best Thai food"", I always come back to Thai Ginger. The service is consistantly great, seating is quick, and the food arrives very fast! Take a drive to no po and you won't regret it! Pros: food, service, consistancy Cons: when busy, parking more

Ehh. 9/17/2006

I read all the reviews and was excited to try this place. I was underwhelmed. I love Thai food, and the pad thai here is very good. The problem is the portions are significantly smaller than other Thai restaurants but the prices are the same. I ordered panang curry that was pretty mediocre. They seemed to really skimp on the coconut milk and cut the curry with broth. I probably won't return here just because there are so many good Thai restaurants in Portland and this place did not hold enough of my attention. more

BEST PAD THAI, great thai 5/21/2006

pad thai is GREAT! noodles are cooked perfect and can i say the flavor is wonderful!!! I eat alot of THAI and this is 1 of my favorites!!! There lunch menu is great also and the PRICE...cant beat it. They are willing to please on the menu. I really like that about this place since i'm such a picky eater! Pros: price,, clean,, accommadating Cons: parking more

Best in Town 4/14/2006

I have tried several Thai restaurants around Portland and this one is by far my favorite! I think it is better than the big name Thai restaurants around town. I highly recommend this place! Pros: food, prices, service Cons: parking, sometimes too crowded more

THAI GINGER (it won't get better than this) 4/7/2006

Are you looking for authentic tasting Thai food? Thai Ginger is the restaraunt for YOU. This restaurant honestly has the best thai food in town. You can ask any UP student - it's a hit with them. Their portions may not be as big as other thai restaurants, but food quality is always consistent so you will always experience the same great taste. You can order your food mild or extra. extra spicy if you're brave enough. Meat is tender (not rubbery). If you want to spend less money, try the lunch menu, which has specials at lower prices than the dinner menu. Desserts are recommended: sticky rice with mango or coconut ice cream with fried bananas. Thai Ginger also provides prompt service, a clean environment, and great ambience with music playing. Overall, you will have a great experience at this joint and will want to come back for more! Pros: Great Food, Friendly Staff, Quick Service Cons: Parking more

Sure to become a fave 11/21/2005

This is the best Thai food restaurant in town. The food is delicious, the service always prompt & friendly, and the inside environment intriguing. My husband and I have been coming to Thai Ginger since 2002, and we have always enjoyed our experience. My hunny's favorite dish is the Pad Thai, while I love the Pra Ram Noodle (with tons of veggies!). We'd recommend the Tom Ga soup, coconut ice cream, and the deep fried banannas to top it all off. You should definitely check this place out. You won't be disappointed! Pros: Promp service, Great taste, Clean Cons: Parking, Strip mall exterior more

Authentic Thai food, great location 10/24/2005

This is some of the best Thai food I've had stateside. The Pad Thai is to die for, and the spring rolls are amazing. The servings aren't your average huge American size, but the value is still great. I recommend the Sweet Sticky Rice and Mango for dessert as well, it's as good as the stuff in Thailand, hands down. Pros: Awesome food, Great NoPo location, Super fast service Cons: Parking more

The best Thai food in Portland 9/9/2005

I love Thai Ginger. It is the best Thai food in Portland. The fried spring rolls are wonderful. They are so accomodating. It is the best! The only con is parking. I can not say enough about how wonderful this restaurant is! Pros: food, price Cons: parking more

I keep ""thai""ing to like this place 8/10/2005

After three visits to Thai Ginger, I'm giving up. I keep hoping that my experience will improve, but it has remained mediocre at best. Food is below average - bland flavors and lower quality ingredients play a prominent part in every dish. Further, Thai Ginger serves up a very small portion size. In other Asian restaurants, an entree order typically feeds two moderately hungry people. Here, you're lucky if one person doesn't go away hungry after eating an entire entree. Despite these objections, I must say that the service is always excellent. A friendly staff and a quick take-out option never disappoint. Pros: Quick Take Out, Friendly Staff Cons: Bland Food, Small Portions more
