Best

I have purchased and rented products from the Tennies family for over 3 decades and have had nothing but great experiences. I live in the Milwaukee area, but travel 30 miles north...

Worst

The store really has high and low points. It's a family owned place, and I always try to deal with family-owned stores if possible. I was looking to buy a new zero-turn mower. ...

Editorial review from Citysearch 12/29/2012

I just bought a snow blower from the West Bend store a week later it went on sale they would not give me the price adjustment they also promised to deliver it on a Saturday then tried to back out and bring it on Sunday until I told them I would cancel the order. If I do not get the price adjustment that will be the last time I do business with them and will warn others not to do business with them either more

Poor Service, Rude People 12/11/2010

I like to give service to local people, but I'm so frustrated, I will never even buy a light bulb from this place again. We even bought the snow blower from Tennies new. Had it serviced there twice now. This last time it took over 6 months to get it back and that was only after multiple phone calls while they tried to ""locate"" it. Now here we sit with a big snow fall, take the blower out and everything loosens up on it. From what I've seen, they can't even handle a simple servicing. The owner didn't like it when I called to ask what was up with this. Tried to tell me they have a ""quality"" staff. Well, that's not what I've experienced. I'm sure they won't miss our business, as they don't seem to communicate in a way that shows you they want your business. more

Knowledgeable but rude in the repair/parts area. 11/27/2010

The store really has high and low points. It's a family owned place, and I always try to deal with family-owned stores if possible. I was looking to buy a new zero-turn mower. A gentleman approached me and we discussed my needs. It was great - and I was pretty much sold on their store mostly because I felt really comfortable with the guy. I have a steep hill and wanted to see how zero turns generally handle hills. The gentlemen brought me upstairs to ask someone about how they handle hills. It turned out the guy I was talking with was the owner, and he was introducing me to his son who runs the small engine area. Two things became clear very quickly 1)the son was really knowledgeable about small engines and related stuff 2) he would be awful to deal with because he seemed to treat everyone as a complete nuisance. I left with a pocket full of cash and drove to the Home Depot and bought a really nice zero-turn. I've come back a few times for some other stuff and was always put off by the people working upstairs in the parts department. They definitely know their stuff, but as far as the customer service in the small engine repair, prepare for some abuse. more

Tennies Hardware has always been good to me! 10/22/2010

Tennies Ace Hardware Response/Apology 6/13/2010

My name is David Tennies. I am partner in my family owned buisness ""Tennies Ace Hardware"". I first would like to apologise on behalf of my family and employees if you have felt mistreated or didn't get the customer service that you would expect from one of my three locally owned stores. We have reviewed the comments as a company and have addressed the issues with all our employees at all our stores. We strive to be the ""Most Helpful Hardware Store"" in the communities that we serve: West Bend, Jackson and Kewaskum. more

Small engine repair service 7/6/2009

Based on my experience, I would never again use their repair service (or patronize any of their stores). They gave me an estimate for the repair but the actual bill was over 100% greater than the estimate. Worse, they did not need to do the repair that they origionaly thought was needed but charged for it anyway. They also replaced parts that were not authorized or necessary. I gave it a rating of one star only because a negative star rating was not one of the choices available.. To be on the safe side, try one of the other repair shops in the area. more

Downtown is six stars. Southside store is two. 12/17/2008

There are two Tennies stores in town. They are very different places. Pros: small town service Cons: satellite store not up to standards more

Hometown Let Down 11/30/2008

I am a small business owner myself striving in a tough ecomony with major corporations taking away my business. With that said- I support the small guys, but I can no longer support this establishment for the sheer fact that they lack in customer service. Twice in the past year I have used their repair or rental services and twice I have walked away feeling like a ""peon""- and what makes it it worse- it was the owner himself who told me or my husband curtly, ""I do not have time to deal with you."" Let me make it clear that in both circumstances- we were neither complaining or nor making a fuss- we were just simply returning equipment or trying to pay for services rendered with smiles on our faces. I do not understand how someone can remain in business when they talk to customers the way he did to us. If he hates owning a business and handling the everyday challanges it takes to survive, my only suggestion would be to get out of the business. He is the reason why I unfortunately will be going to Walmart or Home Depot to pick up my next monthly $1000 bill worth of equipment I need for my own small business. I suggest you find a different place yourself if you want to be treated like somebody slightly more important than the owner of Tennies measures us as. Pros: Hometown store Cons: Poor Customer Service more
