Ten Thousand Villages looks like a sort of hippie mecca without all the tie dye: woven baskets, wooden statues of moms holding babies, that sort of thing. Inside there's a good variety of small and large gift type things, all made by villages in third world countries whose artisans get paid fairly for their goods. Given the value of the dollar in those countries, you can get some terrific jewelry, scarves, cards, bags, candlesticks, soap and other treats here at a pittance. If you are into modern design, though, you may run screaming.
