Hollywood Beach Opa Taverna- Table-top dancing Fun! This is a great place to go and have fun. The food is okay- I only say this because it has been hit or miss with this place. I order the same this every time- the Opa seafood salad and hummus and breadsticks and a couple sweet-creamy type liquors and lemon-water. Three times I've come here and the food was great and twice I've come here and been very disappointed with the food. I guess it depends who the cook or chef or kitchen-workers is/are. Drinks can be a bit on the expensive side, and probably will be where the majority of your bill comes from, depending on how many are in your party and how much everyone drinks. Management here also is hit and miss. Sometimes great, sometimes virtually non-existent. There is no cover charge which is great. It is a lively place, very much like a dance club would sound (especially after 10 or 11 pm on weekends), so if you're looking for a quiet romantic place to dine, this isn't it. If your like squeaky-clean floors, this isn't it either. On a busy night, the floors can get layered with napkins much like snow-blanketed sidewalks in the north. I would recommend wearing comfortable shoes you can dance in, because you REALLY don't wanna take your heels off and walk barefoot or in socks here. Tried it last time I came here- had to throw my once-white, then black-as-soot socks away. Waiters/waitresses are great, friendly, fun, engaging and enthusiastic. If you want to have some (usually) good food and have fun with friends, letting loose and shaking your booty on tabletops with belly-dancers, THIS PLACE IS AWESOME! more

After being a loyal patron of Hollywood's Taverna Opa since its opening, 13 years ago...I was so disappointed by the food and service in my last visit. My usual dish the grilled octopus appetizer, was not the same. The portion was much smaller, too many herbs and olive oil. This was huge for me because I could already savor the lovely octopus dish in my palette before I even got out from the car.\r Then our server, I shared some Greek with her that I learned in college before going on my trip and she was a bit unfriendly and by correcting my formal form of Greek instead of celebrating I was making an effort to share my few words. Then, the prices of the dishes are exuberant..$16 for a moussaka dish is too much. The mussels were fine, a little overcooked...the tomatoe sauce was tasty. I asked for some water for the ouzo, instead of bringing me a small water pitcher or glass with water...she intended for me to use my large water glass to pour into the small ouzo shot...thus, causing a mess. I was heart-broken to know that this original location's quality of food and service is deteriorating...unfortunately, these are some of growing pains of an establishment that has grown its brand and obtained now too much popularity where the attention to detail, what made the restaurant standout in the first place, is falling on the waste side. The location is still one of the best properties to transcend as if you are enjoying Greek food at a beautiful seaside town in Greece. I do hope this review will help in creating awareness to the owners. more

This place is great for celebrations; you can't help but feel cheery with the music, dancing on tables, tossing napkins! The food comes out in large platters meant for sharing. Everything was delicious--especially the roasted potatoes, the bread, and all of the dips. We went for a special occasion and they brought out a bottle of champagne with a firework on top that was going off which was just really cute. The drinks were excellent. Hostess left a bit to be desired, but the staff inside more than made up for it. Definitely the place to go for a party. more

If you like Palmetto bugs aka roaches, you should check this place out. Apparently at high tide they crawl up the pilings and onto the deck and over your toes as you dine. Our waiter and the host said "This is Florida" I live here and have dined many many places al fresco and never had this happen. There were at least 7 during our dinner. And a tip for the wait staff, don't take an empty drink without asking if a new one is needed. The food is fairly good though maybe slightly overpriced and the gratuity is included which doesn't help the motivation of the wait staff. My advice...don't go during high tide!!! more

Ok this one star might be a bit harsh, but i got your attention. We just came back from dinner there. We sat outside along the ICW and had a nice view of the sunset and boats floating by. Our waiter came, took our drink order, brought them, took our order for an appetizer, the Hot Pikilia:\r Spanakopita, Keftedes, Calamari, Lamb Ribs & Opa Wings and it was delicious. But it all went downhill from there. We then waited and waited and waited for our server to come back. When he came by he barely noticed us, but paid lots of attention to our neighboring tables. We had to ask TWICE for everything, water, wine, our next dish, moussaka - not very good by the way and took probably a halfhour to bring out. Then we asked for the check and my God, how long does it take to bring a freaking check! Psst...they include the tip, bad for a little joint like this. Anyway there's better Greek to be had ANYWHERE else. The food overall is average Greek and the service, abysmal. Skip this hole. more

Food is authenic Greek and amazing and if you want a toned down version go on a weeknight. Good place to go to recover from a stressful day. Spoke to the manager tonight about web complaints we have read about splitting checks for customers and he assured me this was fixed. We had no problems others have mentioned. more

Editorial review from Urbanspoon 8/6/2011

Completely unreasonable about the bill. Large party and the manager had no concept of number of people at the tables. Overcharged us. Would never recommend this place for any large parties at all. They don't know how to keep track of the number of guests when the party is more than 4 people. Manager so nasty he called police. more

Best Greek food in Florida 2/1/2011

I've been just about everywhere Florida trying to find a nice Greek restaurant... it's not just the food at Taverna Opa that makes it the best, but the atmosphere and entertainment also. We went last weekend for my cousin's birthday dinner and we got one of the "family style" menus - so delicious! The dancing after was also one of the highlights of our night. There was sooo much food too.. the saganaki, dolmades, lamb chops and keftedes were especially good. I could eat this stuff every day. Thanks for a great night and for making my cousin's birthday very special. more

Husband loved the lamb chops. We both enjoyed the complimentary starter of freshly prepared (at table) hummus. Garlicky but really tasty. Had the crab legs but had to return due to the fact they were soft and unopenable. They also had no crab forks to eat the crab with even if I could of got them open. I know it is Greek food and I should have ordered something else-but if you cant prepare the crab legs properly or offer a untencil to eat them with then they should take off the menu. Belly dancing I found loud and distracting. Would for sure go back for the hummus and lamb. Their hours are odd as they dont open until 4pm everyday. No lunch service. Dinner service was fine. more

Fantastic! One of my favorite restaurant experiences EVER! Great food and service and my son danced ON ThE TABLE all through dinner. Too much fun. more

If you want a bar, go to a bar. If you want a restaurant, go to a restaurant. This is some bastard child of both: too noisy to be a restaurant, with a lousy layout for a bar. Which is a shame because both the drinks and food is good. But pay cash, the waiter nearly lost my credit card more
