Gyro Fail 7/26/2009

i have been to this resturant on three Occasions this month. i am done trying to get any type of good food or service from this Establishment. On two occasions i been when they were not busy, i frequent many of Nashvilles Meditereanean/Middle eastern resturants. tabouli's does not even compare for how well others make theyre gyro and kaffa. anywhere else in nashville will give you more value for your dollar aswell. Pros: Drink prices are at least average Cons: Poor Service, Poor food Quality/Value more

Oh, Tabouli, what happened to you??? 4/14/2009

Everyone who knew and loved the old Tabouli that served damn good, super fresh food at really good prices surely misses those days. The new Tabouli, sadly, just isn't the same and isn't worth going to. I had high hopes that the makeover would just be cosmetic, but it's not. Rather than getting an awesome stromboli, gyro, or falafel plate for under $8, we now get revamped (and not as good) versions of those for about twice the price. No one went to the old Tabouli looking for great ambiance, but it was a good, basic, neighborhood restaurant that had found it's place. Now we get a garish decor, over priced food, a more limited menu, and yippee, a hookah bar and belly dancing on the weekends. No thanks. Pros: Nice location, not terrible food Cons: Overpriced, overly kitschy, not as good as it used to be more

I really like this place 12/16/2008

I have never been to the old version of the restaurant. Just drove right by it all the time. But I finally had dinner here a few weeks ago, and the food was fantastic. Ate on their front deck and there was live music. It was a great experience for me and my friends. Highly recommended! more

A Real Disapointment 11/14/2008

Tabouli's used to be among my favorite spots and I ate there regularly. But it has really taken a dive and the quality of the food has gone from great to poor. Their remodeling and attempts to make it a nicer restaurant are noticeable improvements, but serving food on new fancier plates doesn't change the fact that it isn't any good. Last night my girlfriend and I decided to give it a third and final chance to see if they had gotten better since our last two experiences (both of which were before the remodeling)....and it was a real disapointment and waste of our money. Both the hummus and water had a dishwater aftertaste the chicken was overly salted and the grilled vegetables that the menu indicated that the kebob would include did not come with the meal. It's sad to see what used to be such a great restaurant serve such poor quality food. Don't waste your time or money with this place--it isn't what it used to be. Pros: Location Cons: Poor quality food more

Great neighborhood restaurant, and great late night with hookah and full bar. 9/15/2008

On a recent visit to the newly remolded Tabouli's on Belmont Blvd, I was pleased with what I saw. Not only had they added on a beautiful new patio with open garage doors, they had renovated the entire inside of the restaurant and they did a very good job. After being greeted by the friendly host, we were seated at a table on the patio. We started off with the hummus with pita and grape leaves, both were delicious. I had the lasagna, it was cooked perfect, not too hot to eat but cooked all the way through, and tasted great. The service was very friendly, and the place looks great. I would recommend this place as a must try. Pros: Great food, atmosphere, and service. Full bar with flat screen tv's Cons: Parking is kinda tricky, but not a real problem. more

Changing for the worst 7/21/2008

My husband and I went to Tabouli's this past weekend. It used to be our favorite special place to go to celebrate birthday's, anniversaries, or celebrate nothing at all. We especially love the Shawarma, with his perfectly seasoned meat and onions. Delicious. And their falafel appetizer was perfection. However, this past weekend, things had changed, and not in a good way. First, the menu was limited due to remodeling. We still saw Shawarma on the menu, so we thought we were still alright. We ordered the usual, chicken for me, beef for my husband and waited. An unusually long amount of time later, our food arrived, and looked nothing like it had before. My chicken looked like it was cooked on a foreman, so detection of any spices, not even salt and pepper. Quite bland, and quite dry. Instead of beef, my husband had gyro meat (lamb spam), and chicken. Oddly, his chicken was quite different than mine, but still horrible nonetheless. We never received the humus and salad promised with the meal, and after spending a considerable amount of time waiting for the food to begin with, decided not to protest. Pros: Great location Cons: Terrible food more

It's not Tabouli's anymore! 7/11/2008

Our family has enjoyed Tabouli's since the 80s. It has always been the best Mediterranean cuisine I have eaten and was always consistent. Recently, the restaurant has new owners and a new chef. I wish they would change the name, because it is not Tabouli's anymore. The seasonings are different; the meat is different (mine was very tough). They have a limited menu now because of construction, so maybe when everything is finished, it will be better. I'm afraid Nashville has lost a jewel in the dining category. I would love to know if the previous owners/chefs are going to open another restaurant, because they really know how to prepare Mediterranean dishes. more

Horrible Food. What a waste of a great location! 5/16/2008

I have worked in restaurants for years and always do my best to be patient and kind to servers. I have NEVER walked out of a restaurant before. The food at taboulis was so horrible (how do you mess up hummus?), that after i received my salad (bitter yellow iceberg, one piece of beefsteak tomato), I handed it back to the server, along with fifteen dollars, asked him to cancel the rest of my order, and left. They also have no greek/medeterranian food on the menu. Cons: terrible food, no ambience more

fun things to try 5/9/2008

Grape leaves were flavorful, and larger than normal. maybe a little oily. the rice was the most flavorful rice i have ever eaten, and the baba ganoush and hummus were also very creamy and tasty without being too heavy and oily. there is so much on the menu it's hard to make a decision! great location in the belmont area as well. Pros: lots on the menu, location Cons: beware of ordering anything with fries. you will get a mountain of them. more

Negative Experience 4/9/2008

I was craving hookah and checked out Tabouli's. I went on a Monday evening, so not too crowded. I asked for Hookah and the lady stared at me confused. *You do have hookah?* I asked. She said yes and they only had one flavor, apple. Sitting on the porch, she comes out and says she didn't have apple, but rose. I was fine with this, but didn't enjoy waiting forever, and then not to have my new coals applied. I was not impressed with the food either. The service was slow, food mediocre, and the hookah was terrible. more

The BEST Mediterranean in Nashville! 1/3/2008

We've heard all the recommendations and been to all the places, and I'm telling you: Tabouli's is the best, HANDS DOWN. Apparently, Kalamata's used to be a favorite among locals, but my husband and I have been there as well, and it is simply dwarfed in comparison to Tabouli's! The food at Tabouli's is better, the service is better, the ambience is better... what else can I say? The ONLY con is that they don't serve wine - yet. But maybe someday... Anyway, it's a family-owned restaurant that serves Greek, Egyptian, and Italian cuisine, and I will continue going back. Pros: Food, service, locale Cons: No wine/liquor service yet more

Not impressed. 8/24/2007

I was not as impressed with Tabouli's as I thought I would be. I got the Greek salad and gyro sandwich and both were just average, in fact the sandwich was less than average. Maybe I just got the wrong thing. Pros: Fun location. Cons: Parking, food, ambience. more

I LOVE Tabouli's! 7/1/2007

Last Saturday night, I dined at Tabouli's. I was a bit skeptical after reading some of the reviews on here, but I have heard soooo many good things about the place that I just had to give it a try. My waitress had a few tables, but my date and I were still seated immediately. Our server was knowledgable about the beer selection (they only have bottled beer, no wine, unfortunately). She answered any questions that we had about the menu. Our appetizer, salads, and entrees all came in a fair amount of time. The portions were huge, so we didn't have room for dessert, but the tiramisu looked too good to pass up so we got some to-go. The prices are pretty average for a dinner out, and you get way more food than at most places. There is also a patio, and there was absolutely no wait for a table. Pros: plenty of street parking, nice employees, great food more

worst dining expirence, EVER! 6/26/2007

I had been talking about this little greek resturant that I was told about to my friend, who moved here from St. Louis. We went on a Saturday afternoon, and sat on the patio, since that is reportedly the place to be. It ended up being a disaster from start to finish. The waitress, who started off seeming disinterested to be at work, brought us 2 iced teas, but aparently forgot the ice. We asked her for just a cup of ice so we wouldnt have to send them back. After waiting for completely too long, my friend went inside and got it herself. ( strike1) I ordered a Calzone, and a salad, while she got the greek plate. When i asked if they had any house dressings, she didnt know what that meant. We slowly explained it to her, and she said that they made an italian dressing, but she didnt know what vinegarette meant, so again, we had to explain it. Finally, when the salad came, it was wilted. I told her that it didnt seem fresh, and she said, ""yeah it is, i watched them cut it""... My jaw dropped... ( strike 2) I could seriously go on forever about how dumb this chick was, but the last straw was when she decided to talk back to me when I told her that they made me a Stromboli, instead of a Calzone. She said that they were the same thing, and she could have them make me another one. I didnt want ANOTHER one, I wanted the right one! The calzone, when it finally came, was burned on the outside, and the dough was still gooey on the inside, with cold shredded cheese. ( strike 3) At this point, my friend asked for the manager, and she said that he was bussy, bc ""he went downstairs"" . I'm not sure what was the big emergency downstairs, but the waitress was about to get strangled up there... Never Again... Pros: location Cons: Waitress, food, freshness, cleanliness, managment, promptness... could go on forever. more

Enjoy Food and Service 3/25/2007

I've only been a few times, but have always enjoyed my food and the servers are very nice and check on the table several times. Didn't know that they also offer hookah, which is something I enjoy, so that makes me want to go there even more. They advertise free WiFi but for some reason my computer was unable to get on the internet even though I was connected to their network. Pros: Good Food, Hookah, Good Service more

bad food, Bad service 3/17/2007

5 of us went to Tabouli's on a Saturday night. Most of us had Mediterranean food and we were disappointed. The falafel was too oily and very crispy. The hummus did not taste like hummus at all and even the french fries had an oily aftertaste! The service was really poor. The waitress did not check on us, brought the check before asking us about dessert. She didn't ask even after bringing the check. It was a bad experience! We will never go back again. Cons: food, service more

Great experience! 11/27/2006

I have been eating at Tabouli's for years, and the food has never been less that delicious. I have been here probably hundreds of times, and I have never experienced bad service or bad food. The employees are friendly, and the food tastes great. They have a really good selection of pasta dishes and calzones that will leave you with plenty to take home. I don't know if the Middle Eastern stuff is really authentic or not, but either way it tastes AMAZING!!! Pros: food, employees Cons: you will always eat way too much!!! more

nice waitresses, terrible food 11/3/2006

this was one of the worst attempts at middle eastern food I've ever experienced. the falafel was falawful - gummy and pasty on the inside and practically inedible. the rest of my dish was third rate college fare and overall just plain bad. the waitress was really nice, and they do have free wi-fi, but those are the only highlights here. stay away. Pros: free wi-fi, nice waitresses Cons: terrible food more

best restaurant in Nashville 2/17/2006

I eat at a variety of restaurants all the time, and Taboulis is one restaurant that I would always be willing to go back to. The servers are amazing, the food is delicious, the prices are reasonable. The atmosphere is unique and great for any occasion whether it be a family lunch or a nice dinner date. If you only go to one restaurant in Nashville, make it Taboulis, and take all your friends. You won't be disappointed. If you haven't been in a while go check it out even if your first experience wasn't the greatest. They have new carpet, linen tables clothes, linen napkins, candles on tables, and the food is even better than before! Pros: FOOD & service, atmosphere, prices more

Awesome place!!! 1/31/2006

Wow! This restaurant been revived! My husband and I have been coming here for years and have always enjoyed the authentic tasting food. But recently we went in and noticed dramatic changes in the place. New carpet, linen tablecloths, candlelit, and romantic music set new ambiance. We were delighted however that they made only improvements and a few additions to the menu. When we asked our waitress about the changes- she told us that there was a new owner and head chef. We really could tell the difference even though we always enjoyed the food before. All of the entrees are preceeded by a salad which was nice since my mouth starts watering the moment I smell the food cooking when I walk in. You can bet we'll be back more often! Especially since the owner himself made his way to our table to say thanks for coming in. Pros: good prices, romantic, great food more
