Even though the ski area's name has changed to Summit West, beginning skiers still associate "Snoqualmie" with bunny hills, easy rope tows and mostly slow chairlifts. Breaking with this tradition, Summit West has added a high-speed quad lift and a snowboard park. Still, it's a sentimental favorite, where many grown-up Seattle skiers took their first baby ski steps--tumbles and all. The crowds, however, can be unbearable.
