I made reservations for my girlfriend and I on OpenTable for a Thursday night. We arrived a 1/2 hour early and were seated promptly (it was a slower night). We ordered two margaritas to start. Now, they are eleven bucks each, but I've paid more for worse and these were quite good, potent and my GF said it was ""the perfect balance between tequila and sweetness"" for her. We had two appetizers, the guacamole and some sweet plaintain/goat cheese empanadas. The guacamole was good, if not great...not enough spice for my taste, though it was very fresh. The chips were stale but it's served with tortillas that are wonderful. For the price, I still prefer the guacamole at Dos Caminos or Mama Mexico. One nice thing, and perhaps the best part, was the corn bread/black bean dip they serve as a complimentary appetizer. The dip is spicy with jalapeno and crema fresca in it, and the corn bread is actually quite tasty ...not overly sweet and definitely not tasting like out of a boxed mix. For the main course I had pork tacos ($20) and she had grilled shrimp served individually on a sweet plaintain with a dollop of guacamole ($20). My tacos were a play on BBQ as it was served with a cranberry/tequila compote and shredded cabbage. Overall they were quite tasty but the presentation was plain and the dish itself could've used a second side-dish as it felt empty. Her shrimp fared better than my tacos and if we had known there'd be that much guac on her plate we wouldn't have ordered the appetizer. The shrimp was good (not too dry and not overly spiced) and the plaintains definitely fit the plate well (not too mushy or sweet).\r

Our dessert was the best part. Churros with sides of caramel and chocolate. Simple and delicious, and only $8. Definitely a must have if you visit here.\r

Overall, while not necessarily worth the money (5 margs, 2 apps, 2 mains, 1 dessert = $170), it is par for the course here in NYC and therefore a resounding success.
Pros: Great Margaritas, Inventive Take on Mexican cuisine
Cons: Value for Money
