Although any customer experience is by definition anecdotal, I have had several Strand experiences in the last month (July, 2011) and all have been positive. Prices are also real...

We ordered a new book from Strand through Amazon and found it to have red ink on the bottom and to be in generally dingy condition. Pros: Have books Cons: Books not in goo...

Twas a time when this place claimed to be the biggest used bookstore in the country. Having worked at Powell's in Portland, Oregon, I know that's far from true. Yet I like the Strand better than its West coast counterpart. The selection is as varied; the atmosphere, much homier. Even while some tomes spill out into the aisles, the books are organized well enough to find what you wish--and to stumble across what you hadn't considered. John Dryden's translation of "The Aeneid?" Why not. In areas with little navigational room, fellow customers always understand the need to pass. One day, I chanced upon a copy of Robert Ferro's "The Others." Lucky me. From what I can tell, the Gertrude Stein and the W.H. Auden leave the shelves quickly. • Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industrys standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
