Horrible treatment 7/27/2011

I am a member of a club that met here on Friday night to sit outside and listen to the band. Ordered and paid for two drinks. Then, later, ordered another drink. When I was ready to leave I went and found our waiter so I could pay for the drink. He asked me to follow him to the bar and I paid him there. Five days later the person I was with received an email from another member of the club saying that I skipped out with paying the drink.\r \r First of all, unbelievable that the waiter would say that I did not pay, when in fact, I did pay for all drinks ordered. \r I cannot believe that the waiter would ""hunt"" me down by contacting other members of the group to try to locate me. I was told that I was giving the club a ""bad name"" by skipping out on the bill. All of this would not be a problem, if I had never paid the bill. But, I did pay the bill and the waiter did not properly keep track of his receipts. more

Horrible Service 3/29/2011

I recently moved to San Antonio from Dallas and went to Stone Werks on a Saturday night with some colleagues. There were multiple open tables with no one waiting, but it took over 30 minutes to get a seat because ""the kitchen wasn't caught up"". Everyone--from the hostess to the servers--was confused and inept. The table we were seated at on the patio at 9 pm had one tealight candle as the only lighting: Couldn't see a thing! The table was a sticky mess; the order was wrong; anything requested took forever to receive (including silverware); the server would disappear for long periods of time; and the kitchen even forgot to put the bacon on the wedge salad. Those that had been there before laughed and said ""Everyone knows that you don't go to STONE Werks and expect good service!"" It's a shame service here is horrible, because their location and setup is nice and the Reuben sandwich is amazing! Good help shouldn't be hard to find and proper training should address the issues. more

CAN'T RECOMMEND STONEWERKS 6/22/2010

StoneWerks at the Quarry - we sat outside for lunch, which would have been pleasant if the music was not played so loud we had to shout to be heard. We asked our waitress if the music could be turned down, and she said she'd ask her manager. Our request was ignored and the music blared throughout our lunch. Our waitress did not offer the fact that there were any specials, which we did not find out about until after we had ordered. We would have chosen differently if we had been given the opportunity. Two wait staff, after ""checking with the kitchen,"" assured me that the green stuff on top of my pizza was parsley, not cilantro. It was indeed cilantro, which I don't care for so sent it back - they just wanted me to shut up and eat my pizza. Staff not at all service-oriented; overall an unpleasant experience. Pros: Interesting menu Cons: Disinterested Mgr., slow/poor service, wait staff untrained more

DO NOT GO TO STONE WERKS!! WAITERS ADD THEIR OWN TIP!!!! 10/8/2009

IS IT NOT CUSTOMARY FOR THE CUSTOMER TO DECIDE ON HOW MUCH TIP TO LEAVE? MY FAMILY AND I RECENTLY WENT TO STONE WERKS IN THE QUARRY AND HAD AN AVERAGE MEAL THERE. WE LEFT, WHAT WE THOUGHT WAS A FAIR TIP. APPARENTLY OUR WAITER DID NOT THINK AS WE DID. HE CHANGED THE TIP AND THE TOTAL AND GOT AWAY WITH AN EXTRA 10 DOLLARS. NOW, 10 DOLLARS IS NOT MUCH IN THE GRAND SCHEME OF THINGS, HOWEVER, IT IS STEALING AND THIEVERY TO ADD EXTRA MONEY AND FORGE THE NEW AMOUNT ON AN ALREADY SIGNED CREDIT CARD SLIP. WE CALLED STONE WERKS TO INFORM THE MANGAER AS TO WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND HE WAS JUST AWFUL. HE KEPT INSISTING THAT WE WERE WRONG AND WE WERE LYING. HE WAS EXTREMELY RUDE AND PATRONIZING. THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT? NOT AT STONE WERKS. DO NOT GO TO STONE WERKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UNLESS YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE CHATED OUT OF YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY BY ALL THE YOUNG STAFF AND CURSED OUT BY THE MANAGER!!!\r THE FOODS NOT THAT GREAT EITHER. Pros: NOTHING Cons: WAITERS STEAL YOUR MONEY; ADD THEIR OWN TIPS!!!! more

BAD Bartenders great ambiance 12/22/2008

I just moved down to SA from Houston a couple days ago and this was my first time at this place. It had a really awesome patio area AND live entertainment. A place like this in H-town would have been packed! But it wasn't that bad. The wait staff was actually really nice, BUT..i ordered a drink which tasted like medicine and when i asked to take it back it was brought back to me by a bartender i'm guessing. And she demanded to know what i didn't like about the drink and what she could do to make that drink better. I asked her to make it sweeter and it wasn't any better, but i was so appalled after she left bc my waitress had said the bartender had argued with her and therefore had sent her to me that i just said forget it and took the drink. WOW...what an un-classy, un-professional dining place. This would have NEVER happened at any restaurant in Houston. Granted i do realize this isn't a 4-star restaurant, my tab was 6.99 for a salad, and 9.00 for the drink i didn't even drink. What's worse is the bathrooms were horrific. The smell was so bad it took me about 30 mins to order because i had lost my appetite. NO JOKE. Whoever owns the place needs to realize the amount of potential in that place/area and make some changes! such as cleaning the bathrooms properly, putting some plug in's or something. And getting rid of batchy people. Pros: good ambiance Cons: bad bartenders, and smelly bathrooms more

Great atmosphere, horrible service 7/27/2008

The patio atmosphere is great. Very pretty surroundings - big trees and twinkle lights. \r \r Expect slow and below par service. Waitstaff messes up orders, food arrives cold or wrong. I have gone on a few large happy hours and servers have not been willing or did not know how to split checks.\r \r The area is a major draw for young professionals - the servers should know that there is money to be made and treat their tables better.\r \r Servers are very green, asking if I am ready to order when they are just dropping off the first cocktail... Pros: atmosphere, patio, location, trendy Cons: service, staff, hostesses, managers... more

Great Patio Good Food 3/11/2008

Across the street from the Alamo Quarry Shopping Center and the Quarry Golf Course, this San Antonio eatery has a patio that cannot be beat in San Antonio. The service can be suspect, especially if your server happens to be one of the greedy and often inconsiderate servers on the premises. The food and value more than makes up for the sometimes poor service and expensive drinks (often rung up at a higher rate, if possible, by unprofessional servers seeking a higher tab and tip, at the coustomer's expense). The food can be great at times depending on who is working in the kitchen. It seems as though some of the real talent in there has left long ago, however, more often than not, you get better than average american fare. Be sure to order the Spinach Artichoke Dip with the Focaccia Bread. Also great on the appetizer menu is the Oyesters Rockefeller. As for the Lunch and Dinner options, the Pecan Crusted Chicken is outstanding as are many of the salads and sandwiches including the Baked Italian Sub and the Muffaletta as well as the Oven Roaste Deli Werks. The daily cobbler special is always outstanding and served hot on a cast iron skillet. Stonewerks is a great place to enjoy an evening with a glass of wine from their more than adequate wine list. Pros: Good Food, Great Patio Cons: Poor Service, Expensive Drinks, No Happy Hour more

Management unprofessional, drinks take forever, and always out of stuff. 2/27/2007

I am a repeated customer for over 3 years now at the Quarry and I still cannot understand why. The atomsphere is fabulous and the servers have such great attitudes. POSITVE! I just think to management is very unproffesional. Just from my encounter because the food took forever and it was very cold when I received it. Ive seen them take shots and stand around for god sakes. Just, over the years, I have seen a big change. I go because I like the outside and its great to go after work. 1604 ROCKS! But the live musi also ROCKS! Pros: Live Music Thur-Sat, great food, servers are fun, great place to enjoy yourself Cons: drinks take forever, the bar has nats, cars get broken into, more

Great outdoor seating and ambiance 10/3/2006

San Antonio dining necessitates outdoor seating and this place satisfies all outdoor needs. First, the food is very affordable. They serve American style dishes, everything from deli sandwiches to burgers to steaks to seafood to pizza. It's all there. And you won't see a meal costing more than $20. On average, dishes will cost you $10 and you will get more than your fill of food. I routinely get to go boxes and routinely eat lunch and dinner on the same ticket. \r Additionally, the food is very good for the price. For an $8 sandwich you can get a fantastic New Orleans style Muffeleta that will provide enough food for dinner as well (or at least a drunken snack later on). The deli werks sandwich is the best sandwich on the menu but the pizzas have their own unique style and are very good also. The dinner salads are enourmous and I should guarentee you can't finish it at one sitting. Try the greek sald. \r The outdoor seating provides an atmosphere that promotes happy hour style beverage purchases however there aren't any happy hour specials. There are some pretty good beers on tap including Dos XX, Fat Tire, stella Artois and some other of the like. There are probably around 15 beers on tap in addition to a boatload of beers in bottles. There's also a full liquor bar - the bloody marys are great, stay away from the hurricanes. \r The wait staff is something else. There are probably an average of 7-15 waiters/waitresses for 50 tables or so depending on how busy it is. And I'm not ashamed to say that all the waitresses are gorgeous. Service is prompt and friendly. There are two bars, one inside for the majority of the orders and there is another outside bar that just entertains. \r My suggestion - bring a date or your co-workers for an afterwork cocktail or dinner. you will have a good time. The place will be ""buzzing."" There will be an ecletic group of after work individuals looking to meet people. Go. Pros: food quality, wait staff, beer choice Cons: sometimes crowded, that's it more

Cool decor however food.....another story 11/9/2005

Experienced genuinely friendly service at bar, with prompt order fulfillment. BBQ Pizza was plentiful with toppings and its 10' diametrical portion was ample. However, it unfortunately lacked taste and ingredient distinction. Maybe overcooked? The chicken lacked flavor, cheese matched crust, and BBQ sauce maintained an unoriginal profile. Sorry 'Stone'....nice place, hip demographic, but pizza was mediocre. more

Frozen Appletinis 6/9/2005

I agree with the other review... The Blanco 1604 location is so much better. The frozen appletinis are AWESOME. If you like this drink, you have to try it. more

Up Scale and Sometimes UPTIGHT 1/13/2005

Depending on the day and time you go will determine who( or what) you may encounter. Nice place to meet and be met by up and comers ( and those on the way down). Food is good, service is good as well. I prefer the Stone Werks off Blanco and 1604. It doesn't seem to have that 'Alamo Heights' attitude.( yet!!) more
