Love this place 9/28/2009

Beautiful old mansion, authentic decor that reflects its history. The first time I visited this lovely place was to attend a wedding reception. It was one of the most elegant receptions that I have attended. I have been a customer ever since. The food is elegantly prepared, the service has consistently been excellent. A truly unique dining experience. Pros: Elegant dining experience more

Great place for great food and a beautiful atmosphere 7/13/2009

I liked that we were valeted as soon as we pulled up. When we walked in the door we were greeted and seated immediately. The place gives off a very comfortable, relaxing and romantic feel. The decor of the place is beautiful and warm. Anyone with taste would appreciate it. My fiancee and I chose the four course meal and from start to finish everything was presented beautifully. The food and our waitress was outstanding. We can't wait to return. Pros: Very nice dishes Cons: n/a more

Very Disappointed 4/1/2009

Had to look around for someone to seat us at 8pm on a Saturday Night! The band was very late as we finished our meal before they started. The salad was no more than some green lettuce from a bag and tasted like it. The Chef should be embarassed to serve the Lobster Thermidore and the waitress should refuse future customer requests of this tiny tiny meal. I sent it back and my Wife ate alone then I ate my substituted meal (veal buca very good) alone. Service was hard to get as they were more interested in their friends. At least they gave us a couple drinks at no charge. Apparently the economy has caused them to scrimp on things. Past trips were great ! Pros: Convenient location to I79 Cons: Food for the Price not worth it more

Go Somewhere else! 1/6/2009

We came as a table of 8 to this restaurant for New Year's Eve dinner and were incredibly disappointed. First we were seated 45 minutes late for our 8:00 reservation and crammed into a hallway left to wait with very few apologies. Everything from the menu to the desserts look like something of a mediocre dining venue, not fine dining. The martini my husband ordered dirty was served with no garnishes, no olives and in a tumbler with no ice....very tacky. The waiter was friendly, but had no fine dining training. The food was pretty decent, but nothing worth mentioning. All in all, the place was beautiful, but everything comprising it was unfortunately not. Save yourself a trip and check out somewhere like Willow or Palate for fine French/Italian dining. more

Fine Dining? Award Winning?? I don't think so 10/23/2007

Forced to valet park, not met or greeted (wondered if there was anyone there? should we just wander in and sit down?) TVs in the bar. Decor something out of the fifties or sixties. As one of our guests said the waitress was friendly but more at home with check tableclothes - no formal training whatsoever and snatched plate away from my wife while she was still eating! Food was quite nice and reasonably priced, wine was reasonable but wine list really not very extensive. As another reviewer said this would be pretty average for a casual dining restaurant, but in now way constitutes fine dining - romantic, no way. Finally no one took any notice of us after we'd paid so we just got up and walked out.... more

Best Restuarant North of Pgh 9/14/2007

All i have are positive things to say about the stone mansion resturant. I have been to many restuarants in Pgh and all over Pa. and this is by a long shot the best restuarant i have been to in years. Truthfully the one negative reveiw i read before deciding to enter my own really disturbed me. My husband and i went to stone manion for our 3 yr anniversary dinner it was over the top freindly , the waitress was excellant and accomodating. The menu is extensive and the food , on a scale of 1-10 is a 10+ the p[rices are more than reasonable for the quality of the food. I highly recommend the seafood platter!!! A gentleman came to every table and checked on you after you had eaten. By far one of the best ever!!!!!!!! Pros: valet/food/atmosphere Cons: n/a more

less than fine dinning 7/28/2007

Friends and I had a birthday dinner there last evening. The waiter was not experienced but friendly. The food was adequate, but not outstanding. They were out of scallops by 8:30pm. There is live music at 8pm. It is valet parking only. The exterior is impressive, but the interior looks like a handy man?s special. I can?t believe that they covered up much of the mansion's history in architecture. The main bar uses T-111 on the ceiling for example. The lower dining area smelled a bit like ""sewer"". The one redeeming aspect was when I only said that my food was spicy and they immediately took it of the bill, well ... then they forgot and then gave me a gift certificate to return. I gave the certificate to one of the others, since I don?t plan on going back. I gave this a below average since they claim to be ""fine Dining"", if they were a considered a casual dining then they would have got an average from me. Pros: easy to get to Cons: martini's only get a half a glass, not maintined interior more

The Best Day 6/10/2004

My husband and I were married here and we couldn't have asked for more. The food was incredible and I can't wait to go again. The owner and staff were helpful and made our day go as smoothly as possible. Pros: great food, beautiful scenery, knowledgeable staff more

Nice place to have dinner 2/16/2003

I was at the stone mansion on February 14, one of the bussiest nights of the year. We got seated quickly. The food was excellent, the wine that was recommended was very good. But the service could have been better. The waitress was not very friendly, actually she was snobby. We did seem to wait awhile for our food, but it was very busy. I would definately go back again. This was our second time there. Pros: Valet Parking, Great Food and Wine, Nice Atmosphere Cons: A little Expensive more

Lovely evening!!! 10/30/2002

The food was good, and especially the wine was great! Good service, friendly people! (service and friendly valet parking personnel) A nice place to spend a special evening! The only thing that I did not like were the booths....I don't think they fit into the romantic athmosphere, but there are other seating areas! more

Worth the wait for an experience in fine dining. Best the ""New North"" has to offer. Cons: no reservations more
