This shop is deplorable. The puppies are neglected, shaking ..in filth..I will call in the State and have this pigpen investigated. The smell is intolerable. The woman behind the counter was totally white trash and disgusting. Statewide pets on Bull Hill Rd Orange Ct. Please these pups are from puppy mills. Please write letters more

ANIMAL ABUSE BIG TIME 10/8/2012

The groomers are a bunch of sloppy White trash mother fuc*ers from Oxford. My Schnauzer was perfectly healthy, now he is sitting at the vet.He can't even sit down or lay down to sleep..There are two burns on his back and I'm not talking razor burn..He also possibly has a herniated disc in his back because of you shady pieces of sh*t..You fuc*ed my dogs back..I'm now going to fu*k your life you inbreds. more

I've been reviewing the USDA inspection reports for the 'breeders' used by pet stores in CT-- don't be fooled by what the employees tell you -- these pups come from Puppy Mills. If you don't know how bad they are, take a minute to google 'puppy mills.' If you purchase a pet from a store you are not 'rescuing' that pet, you are supporting the store and the puppy mills. Please, do not buy anything from a store that sells dogs and cats. more

Cute puppy saves marriage. 2/20/2011

My best friend was on the verge of a divorce, I took her to Statewide Pets to cheer her up. I thought that playing with some of the puppies would take her mind off of her troubles. Her husband told her not to come home with a puppy. She had no intention of buying one until she fell in love with the cutest little Westie ever.\r Well she bought it at a good price and brought it home. I shuddered to think of what her husband was going to do. At first he was mad as anything but when we weren't watching he would play with the puppy. \r Not only did she love that puppy but so did her husband and all of their children. She said that the puppy changed their marriage and one of their children who was having socializing problems. \r Psychologist have recommended pets for people with psychological problems like despression and the like. This puppy worked. It's been over a year now and the marriage is much better and the dog is a real part of the family. more

Great Place 11/8/2010

Between me an my friend we have bought 6 puppies from state wide pets: Cockapoo, Sheltie, Schnoodle, Beagle, Golden Retreiver, and a shitzu.\r \r Out of all these dogs we have nevrr had one health problem with any of them. Every single dog came from a different breeder, and the 3 dogs that are not mixed breeds are all AKC registered breeds. I even went as far as looking into the places the puppies came from. Some came as far as Missouri and some came in as close as fairfield. Some of you on here may just hate pet stores because there are many dogs that could be adopted for very little of a price.\r \r Unfortunately for responsible pet owners like myself the humane society and shelters now make adopting an animal like adiopting a child. i understand they cant let the dog into bad hands, but at some point after a background check, reference check, vet reference check, 2 home visits and a copy of your mortgage paper work it gets a little ridiculous. \r \r For those who say the prices at statewi more

Puppy Mills 9/20/2010

I agree concerning Statewide Pets the place should be investigated, it's obvious that they recieve there puppies from puppy mills, there are several people I know who went there, one they sold the dog as a purebreed Jack Russel it was not and they were ready to quote return it to the breeder the person knew that the dog was going to be destroyed and bought it they did decrease the price because it was a older dog and after they got it the dog was sick and spent over 500 in vet bills, and just recently my son's brother-in-law went there bought a mix pug and jack russell over a thousand dollars, the dog had kennel cough and worms, I went there to check this place out and it was disgusting and yes it smell terriable in there and the cages where way too small for the dogs they had in them. more

Animal Abuse Haven 7/27/2010

This place needs to be shut down. Their animals are kept in dirty, cramped cages and the entire store smells like urine. Their guinea pigs are kept on the floor in a tiny tiny cage. Everything is dirty and disgusting. Please do not buy ANY animals or supplies from this store. It needs to be shut down. They are animal abusers! more

my second home 6/26/2010

I went to statewide looking for a shitzu & left with a yorkie. I love my lil dog! I also get him groomed there. I havnt had a bad experiance in the 5 yrs I've been going there. I also get all my fish & supplies there. Although the store itself could use some updating or remodleing because its been in buisness for so long I continue to go there weekly to see the all the adorable new puppies. more

Over the years we have bought 3 pups from Statewide. Each one has been THE BEST DOG !\r My grandkids and I love going there, we play with all the pups [they have a large variety]. They have merchandise that I have not found anywhere else. Truly a fun time and the place is very clean.\r S.P. more

HORRIBLE PET STORE, DISGUSTING. 4/23/2010

I would just like to say that this pet store is disgusting. I was just there tonight thinking i would see cute little animals and maybe convince me to get one. While in this store i saw animals laying in there one poop and their food mixed in the bottem of the cage with their own pee and poop. I have never seen such horrible care of animals in my whole life. There was a huge koi in a tiny take with a similar size fish with it, an iguana with a turtle with makes no sense at all. As i walked out the store i told my boyfriend that i was going to say something to the guy that was working there but then i saw this poor little kitten with its litter box full and the kitten had cat litter all over her paws and no food or water in her bowl. Before i could get any words out i walked out of the store and cried. I am going to call any shelter, society, animal control, anything i can to get this placed shut down or turned into a adoption center. Even if i have to run this place myself i will, anyo more

Puppy Mills at their worst! 8/6/2009

Terrible, horrible place where the puppies are sick and treated poorly. I purchased a Golden that was very sick, and subsequently died. They wanted to know nothing! more

Unhealthy .... 5/10/2009

On May 10, 2009 I had great expectations of buying a yorkie from StatewidePets. I was horrified seeing the condition each puppy was subjected to. Days of feces lay on the bottom of each cage....some pups tried sleeping in elevated food bowls...others just looked at me with dull sad eyes...not one dog showed any degree of happiness. It broke my heart seeing such heartless care. PLEASE!!! Do has every dog lover has said .... buy from a reputable breeder! I AM! more

Very Satisfied with Statewide... 11/23/2008

I bought two puppies from Statewide Pets. The first a Lhasa Apso in 1993, she lived a healthy happy life for almost 14 years. When she passed away late 2006, we bought a Boston Terrier - We've had her for two years now, and she's a joy. No health problems with her either. While the store could be cleaned up a bit, and at times it does have an odor, I really can't complain - As I said two very healthy loving dogs with no issues. more

These puppies are from Pennsylvania puppy mills 10/30/2008

Having gone to the Dept of Agriculture in Hartford, I was shocked to see that all the puppies at this store are shipped in from the Amish puppy mills in Lancaster County, PA. In case you didn't see the Oprah segment on puppy mills, that's where it was filmed. The millers there have the worst reputations in the country for neglect and abuse of their dogs. A miller named Zimmerman recently shot all of his dogs rather than have them treated at the vet, and this was actually not illegal in PA! To buy a puppy from this store is to support the worst type of animal cruelty...you are just putting money in the miller's pockets. more

Unbelievably Terrible!! 10/23/2008

I bought a golden puppy and it costed me more in vet bills and prescriptions to trreat the kennel cough, fleas and the staph infections than i paid for the dog itself!! BEWARE!!! more

Statewide pets 5/25/2008

We have been going to statewide for about a year bringing newspapers and checking out the puppies and other pets there. We went in a couple weeks ago with newspapers and came home with a male Husky. He was marked down to half the price he was getting a little to big but he was still adorable. And with the 25% off he was even less. I am so glad we adopted him thank you very much. It isnt a chain pet store and the owner is pretty cool a little rough around the edges but he knew what he was talking about. Thanks again I love my Coda Bear. We will be getting the ACA papers for him in about a month. Hopefully there will be no problems. more

Great Store 8/24/2007

Statewide Pets has a great variety of all animals and a very knowledgeable and friendly staff. The store has been in business for many, many years and is a trusted resource for any of your needs and supplies. We love shopping here! more

HORRIBLE STORE 4/29/2007

This Pet store sells sick animals. I bought my yellow lab puppy there and the day after we got him home we found out he had severe pneumonia. I cost us about $3000 total to get him better. He is still in the hospital The owner Steve Primus told us that he didnt want the pup back and if we did bring him back all they would do is put him down. He said he would give us our money back but not pay for any vet bills. We have already fallen for the puppy and would never bring him back. They do not stand behind their dogs. NOTHING BUT A PUPPY MILL AND THIS STORE SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN. Its dirty and they do not take care of the animals. This man is obviously in this business for the wrong reason. more

POOR SERVICE 10/22/2006

I DID BUY A PUPPY HERE SOME ODD YEARS AGO AND IT WAS A "PUPPY MILL PUPPY" OF COURSE.\r \r THE STORE ITSELF IS CLEAN AND THEY DO HAVE A GOOD SELECTION OF ACCESORIES, FOODS, ETC.\r \r THE STAFF IS NOT HALF AS HELPFUL AS PURR-FECT PET. I CAN'T RECOMMEND THIS STORE BECAUSE THE STAFF IS INDIFFERENT AND NOT HELPFUL. more

Statewide pets review 6/20/2006

Was TERRIBLE: Mice were kept in a cage that obviously wasn't ever cleaned; there was even a dead mouse just sitting in the cage. Half were pregnant, and there were about thirty in a small cage. I bought two out of pity: premature death, being eaten by the ferret(there was a dead mouse in the ferret's cage) and more. DON"T GO THERE. All animals were in small, dirty cages. DON'T GO THERE. PROS: Had a lot of animals CONS: ANIMALS WERE NOT CARED FOR PREPERLY. more
