Great Scene and Beer Selection 4/19/2009

This past saturday after dinner we decided to stop by stanton public after learning that they had a great outdoor area along with an excellent beer selection. The place was playing a great mix of music and had a nice crowd. The outdoor area was still covered but it still felt like we werent in the city. I would definitely come back again in the summer to enjoy some great outdoor drinking. Pros: Music and Beer more

ummm....my new les home 2/12/2009

went here last friday for the Dark Was The Night listening party to see The National, Blonde Redhead & Yeasayer DJ. it looks like a regular bar w/cool undertones, like the skateboard truck bag/coat hangers & of course awesome indie bands djing. One of the guys from Interpol hanging out. I checked them out on yelp first & saw that PB&J djed there, I don't get it since they're not big enough to have live bands, but it works. went there again on monday & was definitely a cool chill home-like atmosphere with a later crowd coming in. Weekdays are in a pleasant contrast to packed nights. I'm not a big beer drinker, but the selection was intense & I loved the Lagunits red, but stuck w/ pbrs after. I like the indie-scene, & they reject fratty b&t types!! Great staff that knows the music, a definite hidden gem in the les & now officially my hideout. Pros: indie bands djing, chill scene, rejects fratty b&t types Cons: a little tight, hard to find more

hands down one of the best bars in nyc 9/28/2008

been to this bar a million times and have never been dissapointed. I love the staff that seem to pretty much love working there & never turns down a shot (1 star). For those that don't know here's the inside scoop from someone who never cares to write reviews but this has finally earned one: Yes an impressive beer bar with cask ale & all that (1 star), but only regulars know the underbelly. A nice treat to have seen Peter Bjorn & John guest DJ there & get wasted with them, another time the guys from the Black Keys & Pete Yorn were drinking out back (2 stars) . indie label players like Beggar's Banquet, Rough trade, DFA records hang there to get banged up & listen to the DJs or seriously the best ipod playlist in town. Yea, the music is the main backdrop of this place & if you happen to see a fratty person hanging in the midsts of the hipsters, they're at the bar living their secret lives as music lovers & trying to break free of the cookie cutter. If you want an education in good music, this is the spot that won't get played out. btw, the bartender said that beggars banquet is doing a CMJ afterparty there with the Teenagers as one of the guest djs. Will I be there? yea. (10 stars) Pros: good beer, cool staff, great music Cons: needs to be bigger & more bathrooms more

Good selection, dead happy hour, drab outdoors 4/21/2008

We showed up around 6 on a Friday and their courtyard was practically empty. The draft specials didn't apply to the ones we wanted to try, but full price was worth it. I hear that it got really busy around 10 or 11. Don't expect a sunset view or a lot of room to move when it gets busy. But I would go back for a nice craft beer experience. Pros: Great selection, outdoor seating Cons: no sunset, not a lot of room more

Make note: Crashin""in Party now in Manhattan 2/10/2008

I've always loved the Crashin""In party & now they've expanded from Brooklyn to Manhattan at Stanton Public. This my first visit to the place so here's my take on the spot: Overall I have to say that it is definitely worth visiting. It was extremely packed when i went last weekend because it was 1130 on a Saturday night. Regardless, they had TONS of delicious beer on tap. I had some nice Weihenstephaner, Delirium Tremens, Chimay White, etc. All were reasonably priced (about the same as buying a Heineken at a shtty club in manhattan). They also have Cask Drawn Ales every week and are constantly updated. I didn't try the food so I really don't know how that is. I also grabbed a dogfish head 90 minute (cost me around 6 bucks-awesome!) and numerous other beers. I had a great time and an even more interesting time trying to get home. Don't drink and drive, but do visit Stanton Public. Pros: Beers & Crashin' In now in manhattan Cons: On Saturdays go early to grab a spot or come after 1:30 when it eases up on people and is the best time to hang more

Pick you up @ 9 1/24/2008

GO GO GO to this place!! I?ll give you a ride if it comes down to that! Definitely my favorite beer bar in the city right now. Extremely cozy and welcoming, very hip - the owner?s have an impeccable taste in music and the bartenders/waitresses are gorgeous. Perfect stop for a great beer and mingling amongst friends and strangers! Fantastic garden in the back as well where you can chill and enjoy the crisp NYC night air or take all your friends and have a party. Definitely one of the top 2-3 places in the city to grab a beer, that?s saying a LOT. more

Williamsburg-esque 10/28/2007

Fantastic! This is a cool, Williamsburg-esque hipsterbar. Attractive waitresses. A hilarious menu featuring TV dinners (salisbury steak - 1 and a half pounds of food! the menu screams, tongue in cheek). To go with your TV dinners, you can get a Bud Light for $2. But that?s the only macroswill on this this bar. There?s a handpump, and about plenty of Sixpoint, Captain Lawrence, and Belgians. Some recent brews available were: Deus, Hofbrau Munchen Dunkel, Brooklyn Coney Island Lager. Perhaps 50 beers, I?d guess. Beer garden in back. One of NYC?s very best to compete with Billyburg?s top contenders, Spuyten Duyvil, Barcade, Diamond and Gutter. Pros: These types of bars will keep the Lower East Side the Lower East Side, attractive waitresses Cons: I'm sure there are some, but I haven't seen any yet more

Coming from a regular... 9/18/2007

I still can't believe how the hell a BEER bar is consistently packed with wall to wall beautiful, sometimes VERY beautiful women?! although I can only speak for weekends being thats the only times I've been, it freakin blowss my mind!! You would assume that they're sticking to vodka sodas but most are walking around with hefe-weiss beers, Chimays, etc, maybe it's for the fancy glasses they come in, but none the less great views & great times BUT get there early if you want a spot. I've only eaten there once and although the chicken fingers are good, the kitchen closes way early so I would suggest eating a little something before getting there. will be back for sure Pros: Need I say more? Cons: Kitchen closes a little early more

Cool Owner & Great Beer 7/20/2007

We went early & on a Wednesday so at first it was a little quiet but that was great because we had the chance to meet/chat with the owner (he was very cool & made us feel very welcome). By the time we left we were very drunk off excellent beer & the crowd was really chill/friendly. Let's face it...soooo much to choose from while in NYC, however this place is well worth having a few great beers with good company & music...ps the double white beer I had was THE SMOOTHEST beer ever. Check this place out. Pros: Owner - Atmosphere Cons: I had to work the next day =) more

Great for birthday parties 7/12/2007

I chose Stanton Public to celebrate my birthday a few Friday nights past based on CitySearch reviews. I would never have noticed this place because it's kind of off the beaten path, especially for LES. It was a great choice because I had an awesome night (can't remember some of it), the bar was able to accommodate 15+ friends comfortably, and I got to drink for free all night! I drank Southampton Double White (very tasty) all night, in addition to some random shots... We started off the evening in the outdoor ""beer garden"" that is cozy and comfortable on cool summer evenings, but by 11 pm it was PACKED! So as more friends arrived, I decided to move the party downstairs. There is a semi-private area down there with alcove seating, dart boards, flat-screen TV, and easy access to the ladies room. No one was downstairs, so we turned it into our own VIP section :-) The waitresses were very friendly and served my party both upstairs and down. My friends were a little disappointed that there was no food service that evening, but the amazing selection of beers and full bar made up for it. This is the place to go if you want a variety of drinks, or want to try something new. Even though I didn't have to pay for drinks that night, my friends told me that drink prices were reasonable, especially for Manhattan. Also, between the main bar area, garden, and downstairs, no one was bored. My only other issue is that the music was VERY loud, but that's the problem at most bars in the city. I would highly recommend Stanton Public for a chill weekday night out, or a weekend party. Call the management a few days before if you are planning to bring a big party, and plan to arrive early to grab the good seats. Pros: Beer selection, multiple rooms, great for parties Cons: Very loud music, spotty food service more

Stanton is my friend 4/25/2007

The large selection of beer will make your head flip, being that you probably only heard of a handful of them. The bartenders and staff are engaging (unless you're a drunk baffoon), funny, and very sweet. I loved this one beer, and they gave us 2 more on the house even though they were more expensive than most others. They started a harder rock night ,i think it's every other Monday with the bassist from Kittie DJing. It sometimes gets crowded on the weekends with a lot of pretty girls mind you, unfortunately for me I can't keep my boyfriends eyes on me at all times but that won't keep me out of here, luckily he's trustworthy. Pros: The beers & music Cons: Alot of people are discovering this neighborhood more

Gem 3/21/2007

Went there last night (tuesday) to pre-game before PLANNING to go to 205 club next door & ended up staying the night (well, till 3). Definitely great to have these two spots next door to each other & down the block from me, I'll only need to use public transportation to go to work now! Pros: location Cons: nada more

Consistently a good time 3/19/2007

I've always been a fan of Stanton Public since it opened. Great indoor space. Great outdoor space. They have a fantastic selection of beers & liquors and the crowd is friendly and energized. Plus, for the L.E.S., I've always liked that the decor is a little more upscale in the main room- more polished. Tired of the vintage, I comb my hair with margarine and a spoon vibe so many others cling to. Some of the bartenders can be a little cocky to the upper east side yuppies that sometimes trickle in to the whole neighborhood, but it's made pretty clear to them that they can take off their ties & relax or head uptown if they want to hang with the LES.. yeah this place sometimes get busy on the weekends, & its still always a good time more

Well worth leaving Brooklyn for 3/6/2007

What can I say? There is NO other bar that gets me out of Brooklyn on a regular basis. Great/hot staff, a really good crowd, a good mix of music, and reasonably priced, well-made drinks! What's there not to like? Check out the constantly changing beer and the various special events and parties. They literally had to ask me to leave last Saturday because it was 4AM, it IS the stupid law (we need 24hr bars in NYC!), so I will be riding that train back into Manhattan again this weekend to get my fill! Pros: REAL LES lives on here Cons: come on! if you leave a con here, then you s**k! more

You guys are great 2/24/2007

Never been there before till last night. I called last minute for my party & they accomodated beyond my expectations. Love the music!! I hear they're getting DJs soon too on weekdays. I love the crowd here, definitely a lot of cool people to find, we're sold. Pros: great music & drinks more

Great Beer, Great music, Great time!!! 2/21/2007

Pros: you WILL have fun more

A blast every time 2/2/2007

At risk of ruining my favorite spot, I enthusiastically encourage everyone to experience this excellent bar. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable; the regulars are friendly and knowledgeable. Good place to meet people & hear great new music. Bring friends to sit in the cozy banquette along the back wall or out on the patio & watch a film, or sit at the bar & watch classic movies. Leave your attitude at home, or check it at the door. This place is unpretentious and real. more
