Awesome School! 12/8/2011

My family is very happy with this school. Our oldest child currently attends with our 2 little ones to soon follow. We have no complaints. The staff is wonderful, academics are on target, our new Principal is great and the environment is very safe. We also love the Parent Participation, School Unity and Christian Influence. We looked into many schools before choosing St. Loiuse De Marillac and are still confident we made the right choice. more

Expensive Disappointment 4/28/2010

I have a child attending St. Louise. My wife and I were drawn to the school for the Catholic education and academics. Since being there we have discovered many problems. For one, the school falls behind most other schools (private and public) when it comes to both math and English scores. It is our hope to get our child into one of the local catholic high schools. We have since learned that the majority of St Louise grads must attend summer school to catch up academically. \r \r Secondly, there are problems in the the upper grades (6-8) with both teaching and discipline. The school recently fired the 8th grade teacher, who was a complete waste of time. His attitude was that St Louise was just a second job to his coaching and teaching at Chaffey College, and it showed in the classroom.\r \r Third, there are a core group of unruly and bullying children. Problems have been brought up to the staff and principle. If that problem child belongs to a ""favored family"" the problem is ignored.\r \r Lastly, these issues have been brought up directly to the principle. For the most part she is non responsive. If you are seeking a private school education for your child, I would NOT recommend St Louise until the administrators take their heads out of the sand and address these issues. Pros: Safe school environment Cons: Poor academics in upper grades more

Catholic School & Church 12/8/2009

Member of Church for past 20+ years. Church is extreamly motiovated in youth movement (Teens). Church reaches out to all age levels and group levels. No one is excluded for attitudes or beliefs. They bend over backwards to be helpful.\r \r School is 1st - 8th grade with Religious training of course. School strives for high test scores and giving children the tools to better their lives for higher education. Their tend is a different approach from public schools in that they address seasonal events differently and places more value on core basic that will count in a childs education later in life rather than waste a lot of play time with seasonal holiday pursuits. \r \r No school or church will meet the general public approval all of the time. But If your Catholic and you want to give your child a good Catholic education your at the right location. If you want Gods help and in need of frendship then your at the right location.\r \r If your not Catholic, and want to provide a better education for your child, and believe in God, then your still at the right location and very welcome. Pros: Strong community outreach with service to God Cons: They take too much guff from public and don't fight back more

DOESNT ALLOW COSTUMES ON HALLOWEEN?? WHY? 10/29/2009

As a First time parent who pays tuition at this school I expect my child to enjoy the Halloween season just like I did when I was young. BUT NOOOOO this school says well you can wear plain colored Halloween tops with uniform bottoms. Our childrens childhood is very short and they should have the same opportunities and experiences that we had as children and to be robbed of that experience is a crime. If this school doesnt change this will be their last year. Pros: local Cons: NO COSTUMES ON HALLOWEEN more

Not happy 8/30/2009

Have you ever heard of forced donations? Is that legal? Just to keep their tuition down, we have to ""donate"" to church a minimum specified amount to qualify for the lowest tution rate. In addition, they actually have detention for children even in the first grade for stupid reasons. Have brought up the issue to other elementary school teachers and they agree that detention is too harsh for a little kid that just missed something small. Plus, there are so many fundraisers that everyone we've sold to is saying, ""when is it going to end?"" One word, SCRIP. Why do we have to make a profit of $100 or else we pay $100 if we dont use it? It feels like we are purchasing food stamps. No one we know wants to even buy the store vouchers when they have cash or credit card on hand. THEN, if you dont complete the 40 service hours in a year, you pay $10 per hour for every hour not completed. SOOOO on top of fundraising, scrip, service hours, you also have mandatory bingo hours (not included in your 40 hours), which you have to set aside at a certain date of the school year. C'mon parents! you work hard, some households have both mother and father working, some have single parent households...it's just really difficult financially and work schedule-wise when money has to be made. I suppose that money needs to also be funneled to the Archdiocese to pay for all the lawsuits. Now it is a Catholic school, so if you're going for a good Catholic education, I only have to say that they are OK. The kids go to mass every so often and learn something. But I feel that it's the same as every other Catholic school. Pros: nice play yard Cons: Certain rules more
