The best spaniard food around ! 6/18/2011

I have frequented this restaurant for years. I currently live in Las Vegas. When I am in town visiting family we go to Spain Restaurant. If your looking for fine decor and waiters to kiss a tender butt then don't go. The food is inexpensive , the quality is fantastic. Its just like in Spain. The service is good, as long as you don't mind the waiter didn't smile once or twice. How ever if you looking for a dining adventure and want to get a feel for some authentic delicious Spaniard food then this is it. Old and Rustic decor sets up for the unexpected excellent food. "" Gambas aljillo"" is a simple yet amazing dish. I high recommend it. more

Didn't Stay 3/20/2011

Walked in once, it smelled like a dirty mop was used to clean the floor. Not for me, so I left. more

Rudest Employees in Town 4/29/2009

I was meeting some friends who were already seated in the restaurant. I sat down next to them, and was immediately accosted by the wait staff. I was instructed to order an entree. I wanted tea, so I ordered tea. I was told, ""No, you can't get tea. You must get an entree."" After trying unsuccessfully with this man to order tea, I tried another waiter. He blew me off and said no, and referred me back to my other waiter. So I took a menu, and told him to give me a few minutes. Several minutes later, an older man, I'm assuming one of the bosses, came over angrily to the table, double checking that everyone had ordered an entree. Not an appetizer. Not some drinks. If you are seated at their restaurant, you must get an entree or they ask you to leave. I think that is ABSURD. They refused to serve me a drink (which I was willing to pay for!) if I did not first order an entree. I never did get my tea. Also, the food seemed pretty overpriced, and the indoors were a bit dark and cramped. The restaurant had a very strange layout. I'm not returning here ever again. Pros: Food seemed ok Cons: Rudents employees I've EVER dealt with. And it's cramped. more

THE WORST MEAL OF MY LIFE! nEEEEEVER again!!!!!` 2/6/2009

A meal at this restaurant was the worst meal of my life. I am trying as hard as I can to erase this experience from my memory because honestly it was the worst 60 dollars I ever spent. I went to this restaurant because it was recommended to me by an out of towner and I should have known...because this meal was disgraceful! The minute I walked into this restaurant I knew this was not going to be a good experience....it was disguisting and looked unsanitary. In fact the main dining room looks as though cows were slaughtered there an hour ago and they tried to mask everything with ugly artwork. It felt as though I was in another country....a third world country to be exact. The food was nasty, flavorless, and honestly places like this should not be allowed to exist. I found a hair in my paella, and the sangria was like fruit juice. And to top it off the restaurant doesnt accept credit cards....which is not stated anywhere! So we had to run out to get cash to pay for this disguisting and attrocious meal....i wish I could have walked out....anybody who said that this place good spanish food is on something, because it was the worst, nastiest meal of my life. I would rather give the money to a bum then to ever step foot into this establishment EVER again! Pros: nothing Cons: EVERYTHING more

Free tapas, cheap and tasty sangria, average food, friendly service 3/6/2008

Had dinner at Spain last night. Waiters are so pleasant, and the free tapas came out immediately. sangria was good (wish there was more fruit) and portions are pretty large. With tip we spent about $32/person and had plenty of food to bring home. I would definitely return for a low key night. Pros: prices, service, portions more

Amazing Spanish Food 11/13/2007

So I threw a surprise party at this restaurant a few months ago...I had never been inside the place, but I heard it was great. Pros: Food, Service, Drinks more

Old reliable 9/21/2007

I have been eating here for years and have always remarked on how this place doesn't change. Same decor, same menu (prices rarely change either) Pros: Great food, funky old style cocktail lounge Cons: shoddy service and decor more

Great place 4/25/2007

This place is a great local place. I just moved in right next door and pop in every now and then. The help is very friendly and constantly providing food if you sit at the bar. Its a great old looking place with delicious food. more

One of the worst restaurant in NYC 2/22/2007

I must say that it is one of my worst dining experience in the city. The restaurant is noisy, incredibly dirty, with an awful general decor. When we enter the premises, the first thing we notice was the horrible smell: a mix of restroom and burnt oil. Pros: can't find any Cons: food, service, ambience, decor more

Beginning of a beautiful friendship 11/4/2006

Last night was my first time dining here and it won't be my last. My new friend recommended the place, and it was the perfect ""first date"". She warned me about the amount of food, and she did not exaggerate. They started us off with bread, salad, oysters, chorrizo and more! I couldn't believe the amount of appetizers they offer...all FREE. Afterwards my date and I shared a paella...the best and BIGGEST paella I've ever had in New York City. Pros: Good food, large portions, free appetizers Cons: No credit cards more

BEST Sangria and FREE Tapas!!! 8/10/2006

This is a mom and pop joint that has been around since the 1960's. If you're looking for the best Sangria in town..this is the one! They actually make it fresh each time you order and it's one of the most refreshing Sangrias even when you're not in the mood to drink. I took a friend of mine and she wasn't in the mood to drink, she had one taste and it was over! :) Pros: FREE Tapas and the best fresh Sangria in town, huge Paella. more

A Delicious Spanish Restaurant almost EVERYONE can afford! 7/15/2006

If you are more into the ""scene"" than the food, you'd be better off hitting Flor De Sol or another trendy ""Latin"" place, but if you just want delicious Spanish food in a low-key atmosphere for a great price, Spain is always the answer. My boyfriend is from Nicaragua and loves the Paella and after having it here, I cannot enjoy it anywhere else (unless he makes it for me and even then, Spain might edge him out). The staff is friendly and while the atmosphere is nothing special, it's not the worst place to eat either. Like many places in NY, there are no credit cards accepted but with these prices, that should not be an issue. It's Pros: Authenic Paella, Excellent Sangria, free appetizers Cons: The atmosphere is not romantic but it's not a cafeteria either, it's just humble more

The best lobster I have ever tried! 3/14/2006

The food is the best and as soon as you seat it starts to come, the Tappas are really good, the sangria is one of the best and trust you will love the Lobster, if you go to New York you have to go to this restaurant. more

Loved It!!! 2/23/2006

If this restaurant was a movie, it won't garner an Oscar nomination, but will definitely be a Box Office hit. Expect to be fed and satisfied. Not for the connoisseur but well worth going to!!! The Paella Valenciana w/ Lobster at $18.50 good for 2-3 people (with the free tapas, you will be full) can't be beat! Pros: Value, Huge Portions Cons: Damp smell more

great food and a small check 1/5/2006

I have been going to this restaurant with my family for the past 25 years and have always been delighted with my experiences.Although the atmosphere may not be trendy enough for some, Spain more then makes up for it by serving the best sangria and steaks in the city(paella too) . The free tapas have been the same for years, they are authentic and so delicious. I love them! There is no need to make a reservation for small parties, but if if it's going to be a large one call ahead. I highly reccomend giving this restaurant a try, you'll get a fabulous meal, great drink, and a tiny bill. I've been going to this place since I was a kid and will continue to go back always. Pros: great food, cheap, free tapas more

Average 12/14/2005

The food was average. It was freezing cold out and it wasn't all that warm in the back dining area. I was cold! Don't sit in the back room in a cold day. Service was prompt. Servers are friendly. Good Sangria. The lady's room was clean which is a big plus! I would go back there again. more

not impressed 5/8/2005

tried finding an inexpensive place for spanish food since we were in the mood for paella and i found Spain Restaurant. 1st of all, when you walk thru the door, it smells like damp towels. the tables are in the back and the ambience was less to be desired. right after sitting down before ordering the waiters brought out free appetizers: ribs, salad, and mussels...the ribs were really salty and so was the salad? the mussels were tasty tho but still pretty fishy. we ordered the paella valenciana and it was pretty bland. dont think i would ever go back Pros: seated fast, cheap Cons: food wasnt very good more

I've never eaten so much food! 4/14/2005

I've never been to a restaurant and paid so little and gotten so much. For $15.50, I got the ""Paella Marinera"" which was beyond filling in itself, but before it even came, the waitstaff provided more than ample appetizers for my group that by the time that the meal came to us, we were so stuffed, we could barely finish up the meal. Definately recommended to anybody who wants an excellent lunch or dinner, doesn't want to spend a lot, and isn't too picky on restaurant ambiance. Sure, the place isn't ""sexy"" but for $20.00 or less, you can be STUFFED like never before. Pros: Ample food, Great location, Friendly wait staff Cons: Cash only more

Good and reasonable 2/14/2005

Worth trying for an inexpensive neighborhood meal. Give it a shot. more
