The Perfect Massage 5/11/2010

I think I found the PERFECT massage therapist at The Spa at Charleston Place. Her name is Wendy D. and she knows her stuff. I have had many massages around the world over the past ten years, but I only needed to drive 3.5 hours from Pinehurst to find the best. Wendy gave me an 80 minute deep tissue massage (thanks to AMEX amenities program). She really understands anatomy and could ""feel"" the places where I was knotty and tight. She didn't just roll through them like a steamroller (deeper is not always better), but she approached each area in a thoughtful non-pain causing way. I can't rave enough about her. I would certainly have the 80 minute DTM again, even if I had to pay the entire amount (it was worth every penny). BTW if you go in to the massage, enjoy it as much as I did, and don't give her at least 20% of the full value of the massage SHAME ON YOU!!! Use a gift card for the massage and plan on giving the tip in cash. No, I am in no way related to this person, but I hate to see someone who is so good not get the credit they deserve. Pros: Friendly Staff, Great Massage more

The Spa at Charleston Place is Divine, Blissful, and Absolutely Unforgettable! 8/26/2007

I have been to the Spa at Charleston Place five times in four years and I highly recommend it to everyone who visits this beautiful city. I have had numerous treatments there, which include the Glycolic Glow facial treatment, Magnolia Moments Body wrap, and Spa Pedicure. They are without a doubt the best I have ever had anywhere! Antoinette most recently did my facial and her hands are like magic. The people in the spa are so friendly and knowledgable. From the technicians to the front desk staff and cleaning crew, they make it a place that you will want to return each time you visit Charleston, SC. I know I have five times now! So, if you want to be pampered and exprience total relaxation, I highly recommend that you treat yourself to the Spa at Charleston Place in South Carolina! \r Pros: Ambience, Staff, Service, Products more

$38 for THIS manicure?!?! 8/20/2007

I am beyond confused why I am unable to find a good manicurist in Charleston. As I've ready so many great reviews in national travel publications I gave it Charleston Place Spa a shot. OK - let's see what a $38 is like. Sadly - it was not any better than the $10 manciures at one of those wretched little salons where the staff wears those masks. The manicurist was 10 min late. I specifically showed her a nail and gave explicit instructions as to the shape I wanted all my nails to be. While I'm foturnate to be able to grow long nails - I personally do not like them on me. Instead I requested they be taken down. This does not mean to the quic - well - only on some nails. Yup - not all the nails were the same length. Not all were the same shape. Some square. Some round. Some had the corners filed way too far in - actually filed on a diagnal into the nail. Cuticles not even. And last, top coat applied way too heavily, which resulted in bubbles in the polish after I left. It is now Monday and I have since stripped my polish from my Thursday manicure as the tips have already started to wear off. Complete waste of money. Pros: Absolutely nothing Cons: No value, poor quality, lack of pride in work more

Worth every penny 10/12/2006

My first full day in Charleston, got lost and very stressed. So stressed I started breaking out in hives. Spoke to a very nice gentleman name Tony who helped me get to the Charleston Place Hotel. My first treatment was a facial. One full hour of relaxation. Then I had an hour of full body massage. I feel that the staff was wonderful both in the hotel and spa. In addition, I was relaxed for the rest of my trip and would go back every day if my wallet would allow it. Pros: Ambiance, your own robe and slippers, locker room with shower and key code lockers more

the Spa at Charleston Place is Heavenly! 10/12/2006

The spa at the Charleston Place Hotel is heavenly. I was visiting Charleston for a business meeting and took a free couple of hours to check out the spa one afternoon. I had the flavor of the month treatment...and it was fantastic. The therapist was really gentle and my skin has never felt better.\r \r But mainly it was just a very calming and professional spa with excellent treatment menu and experienced beauticians. If you are in Charleston, take a look.\r more

Disappointing visit to Spa at Charleston Place 5/24/2005

I scheduled a ""Feet First"" treatment. I do not consider soaking feet in warm water, ""massage"" chairs and water basins to be an added bonus beyond a pedicure. The woman who called the day before our appointments encouraged me to bring in our bib numbers for the race for a 20% discount. When I presented the bibs to the cashier who rang up my bill for the three treatments, I was told there was no such discount. A moment later I was told there was a discount only on one treatment service. She finally found someone who said the discount was in fact good on any spa service. The cashier was probably the most unfriendly person I encountered in four days of an otherwise nice vacation in Charleston. It was frankly embarassing for me to deal with this in front of my guests that I was treating to the treatments. more

Editorial
  • The Scene
This pretty hotel offers a timelessness that matches the city in which it resides. It's a member of the Orient-Express Hotel group, whose swanky reputation it easily upholds. A horse and carriage, rather than cars, suits the circular front entrance. At the same time, the property possesses just the right amount of modernity, such as the beautiful pool area with its retractable glass roof.

    The Details
The 440 guest rooms are understated affairs, done up with American period furnishings. A variety of suite options include L-shaped Senior Suites and Manager Suites on the private Club Level. The Charleston Grill has garnered numerous accolades and is popular for both its sophisticated Southern cuisine and live jazz trio. Facilities for business gatherings include an indoor gazebo, 18 breakout rooms and the art deco The Riviera at Charleston Place conference center, with an amphitheater and rooftop terrace. On-site there is also a comprehensive Health Club and The Spa at Charleston Place.
