South Wind Motel

I recently stayed at the South Winds and found the previous review to be inaccurate. My room was cute and recently updated! It is a quaint family motel that brings you back to a quieter time before big chain hotels. It has a kitchy old school beach appeal and the staff was great! Our housekeeper Ashley gets A+'s all around not only was she cute and nice but my room was spotless every day! Kure Beach is beautiful and quiet. It was the perfect beach getaway! more

This is my first review. Since 1970, we have been going to Kure Beach, NC and staying at the South Wind Motel. Until the year 2007, I would have given the motel a good review. However, when we checked in July 2007, we were informed our rooms were not available (special request rooms) and had been rented to other parties. We told them we would work with them as far as the rooms. They could not and would not provide comparable rooms, but would not refund any of our money. We were stuck in rooms that were not clean, had mold on the walls and carpet, and the appliances in the kitchenette did not work. We reported this to front office and they refused to remedy the problem. We continued to report the problems, asked to be moved and still management would not respond. Finally a few days before we were scheduled to leave, they tried to make us leave. They had our money for the entire week and would not refund it. Had many other problems. Told them we would never stay there again. Pros: Near pier and clean beach Cons: I do not consider the rooms we had to be habitable. Poor management service. more
