South Prairie Oyster Bar

I visit this small cafe about twice a month just for their lunch specials.. catfish or shrimp baskets usually $5.95. Small? Yup. I'd say the booths sit twenty folks and the U shaped Oyster Bar handles another twelve or so. More tables outside in front. Expect it to be crowded on Friday nites. It is a one of a kind friendly local establishment run by a former Grapevine policeman and past city council member. You'll have a chance to meet lots of local Grapevine residents who I bet might like to keep this one a secret. [I live in Grapevine.. so maybe I'd better watch out.. grin] As a side my wife always goes for their clam chowder, I like their gumbo. Catfish and shrimp are both good.. so it is always a difficult choice. Oyster platter is a treat. Head north from 121 up Main Street, cross the railroad.. it is on the right side about two blocks down just past the visitors center. Look for the Indian Head on the side of building. The South Prairie Oyster Bar is rather small, but it packs a big punch. My wifes and Mother-in-laws favorite is the oysters on the half shell, always fresh, large and iced down served with lemon, crackers, cocktail sauce and horseradish. The menu consists mainly of catfish and shrimp items. All items are at a very reasonable price. more
