Editorial review from Citysearch 10/4/2013

Sorrento has been such a great place for my child. Dawn and her staff have been amazing. It's nice that they take the time to talk and brainstorm on ways to help my child get though days when she is a bit grumpy. I love picking her up and seeing her get so excited to show me her arts/crafts that she did for the day. Thanks to sorrento's staff my child has learned so much. Always melts my heart when I catch her singing songs that I never heard her sing before...Like months of the year. I'll ask her , who taught you that.. She says mr. Sarah from preschool. :) more

Editorial review from Citysearch 8/16/2013

""bvtonmom"" is 100% correct. My child got objected to discriminatory practices at this center. I went to pick up my child and she was placed in the corner of a room by herself while all the others were eating at a table. Which relates to ""2mom2""s experience and what she had to go through with these people. They did not want to listen or do what I was telling them about my child's needs. In my opinion, if you care about your child's physical, intellectual and emotional development, this is not the place to leave your child at. These negative comments would not be made if they didn't have any basis. more

Not Open to Kids with Disabilities 1/18/2011

After interviewing with the center recently, I was not surprised to read BvtonMom's review indicating there was a racial issue. Although we didn't experience racial discrimination, we did experience discrimination based on disability. Although the director and teachers seemed open to my children's disabilities, which require no more accomodations than staff training on how to deal with a feeding tube (and we would provided nursing care to fully train the staff), which ultimately results in less care than having to feed and burp a bottle-fed infant, the owner of the center apparently didn't feel that her staff should ""have to deal with that kind of thing."" more

Love the teachers! 5/26/2010

My son has been attending Sorrento for a couple of years. Everyday I am amazed at the progress he is making and the things he is learning. I appreciate the attention he receives from his teachers, as well as the personal interaction I have with them each day. A special kudos to Lisa and Angie - we love you guys! However, my interactions with the center director, Dawn, have not been pleasant. I understand the stresses of running a daycare, yet I do not believe calling me at work to berate me over the fact that another parent overheard my conversation regarding my part-time daycare arrangement was appropriate. Her attitude appears to be hit or miss - either she is very welcoming and cheerful or she is a complete terror. I'm glad to hear that she is not treating other parents this way. Pros: Small class size, caring teachers Cons: Center director more

A loving and caring staff of teachers! 5/5/2010

My daughter has been enrolled at Sorrento for a few months and we haven?t had one issue. She loves going to school every day and I feel 100% comfortable with leaving her in the hands of the teachers at Sorrento. The teachers are friendly and caring. My daughter has learned more at Sorrento in the past few months than she did at her previous daycare in a year! The curriculum is amazing. The teachers are hands on and involved. They just don?t simply sit around and ?watch? the kids. They truly care for these kids and it shows. I feel lucky to have found Sorrento. Thank you Sorrento teachers! Pros: Involved hands on teachers, friendly, caring more

We LOVE Sorrento Staff & Families! 4/29/2010

Unfortunately, I believe that the reviewer of the 21st Century comment is disgruntled for some reason. My daughter attends Sorrento as well as other children who are white, African American, Chinese, Indian, etc. and in the three years we have been there I have NEVER once seen or heard a racial or slanderous remark or action made by ANY staff member. I'm shocked that a parent would take a personal ""jab"" at any of the staff members. These are serious allegations and I hope that potential families would speak to current families of any race at Sorrento before making a decision not to enroll their children. I know several of the families and I personally have NEVER heard such negative remarks from them about Dawn. My daughter has had a wonderful experience and as a parent, I am very comfortable knowing that she is safe and well taken care while she is there. Pros: Great staff and wonderful education experience Cons: None! more

excellent service 4/27/2010

My son has been enrolled for eight months at Sorrento daycare, he is now 18 months. The director and the teachers are very good at what they do. From the first day I mate them, they were warm and affectionate to the children in any ways, they take care of the kids very well. I have never seen such a racial different as one of the commentatior said because me and my family are african american decent, so I have never seen anything different. I am alaways pleased with what they did, they are alaways ethical, professional and clean. I reccomend to anybody to send their child to Sorrento daycare. more

Seriously in the 21st Century? 4/22/2010

Fortunately we have pulled our student from Sorrento before the firm attempts to do further damage to our child's self-esteem. It is disheartening as a parent to learn that in this day and age we must be ultra cognizant that our childcare providers do not force their racial views on our children. I just learned that Dawn (the ""director"") of Sorrento in Beaverton has made racial comments about my child to other parents. Not only has she expressed her strong racial views of ""black"" children, but she has also made wild generalizations about how parents shouldn't adopt because it gives children ""identity confusion"". I am not only shocked that Sorrento owners would employ someone like this, but elevate them to a ""director"" level. I am deeply concerned, deeply disappointed and deeply saddened that my child has experienced such horrible treatment. Again, parents beware...... Cons: Strong concerns about level of professionalism by Dawn more

Excellent Daycare Provider 4/17/2009

We've had our child at Sorrento for 6 months now and have found the Director to be extremely capable, very compassionate, and completely informed about all aspects of the care her facility provides. Our child loves the staff, is excited about going to daycare, and is thriving in a clean, nurturant environment. This locally-owned business is 20 times better than the nationally branded chain daycares in the area. We love Sorrento! Pros: Caring, Capable, Confident staff more

A nice school 6/25/2008

The person who wrote the negative review of this school is clearly not educated themselves, as they have many misspelled words and uninformed opinions. The director of the school is now Dawn Martin, the prior kindergarten teacher and past director. She is very knowledgeable and would never do anything illegal at the school. I would call that negative review slander and absolutely false. I have received calls at home that my child was ill or had a fever and I should come get her as soon as I could. They never leave sick children at school. Absurd! I gave my child a choice where she wanted to go this summer, and she herself chose to go to Sorrento. To say that they put children at risk is not true. I would NEVER put my child at a school where anything mentioned in that review was true. The prior director was a sweet person, but over her head a bit, and she stepped down. That was the only problem, so to speak, at the school, and it has been remedied by putting Dawn back in the role of director. If you're going to leave a review, try to at least be honest and helpful with constructive criticism, not take out whatever person issues you might have by attacking the school. Anyone interested in the school should go and meet Dawn and present any concerns you might have to her, and I am convinced she will put them to rest. Sorrento is a great school/daycare. more

Update 5/13/2008

I have heard that Dawn has taken over as director and is doing a great job. If I had known that the other director would be leaving so soon I never would have left there. Although you seem to be very involved with your child here, most parents are not so involved. There were many things going on under the tables that only the teachers knew about. I was just giving a warning. Take it or leave it. I am very glad to hear of how Dawn has turned the place around through friends who still work there. But there are still long strides to be made up for and I wish Sorrento all the luck. Cons: improving more

Great Private Kindergarten 4/18/2008

The kindergarten teacher at this school is wonderful! My child has learned so much and has really blossomed there. I only hope to have such a positive experience when we move on to 1st grade. I would more
