Upon entering Solar Salon it does appear sleek, modern and fairly impressive however once the staff member looks up and decides to acknowledge you, their service goes downhill. The ""manager"" is rather dry and not very welcoming. The weekend girl has absolutely no personality and neither have customer service skills nor have ever cracked a smile. The bulbs are not kept up so make sure you go as soon as they change them- maybe once every 6 months if that. Often the headphones are broken. Do not ever ask for credit or you will get a dirty look! I have been a part of Solar Salon since it began on Lexington Avenue. I have never burned or had dry skin. You are allowed at most 10 minutes in the beds and that is enough. Sure overeaters gain weight. Over tanners my have a problem on the beach. I have practiced moderation for all the years I have tanned and must say- many envy my natural tan. I tried others before. This salon is a good place to stop to use their bathroom but if you're looking for a tan..DO NOT come here. Staff is mostly unhelpful..with the exception of one person...lotion dispensers are broken,..,most machines are only partially working...and on top of it all...they dont change their bulbs so they dont make you tan...SUX. more

I am very impressed with this place and have gone for a year now. It's always very clean and sanitized, the place is inviting, the staff is always friendly and extremely knowledgeable on tanning but non-pushy in terms of sales. I would recommend it to anyone. Also, the prices are completely reasonable, and if you can go in the morning hours (when it's least busy anyway), you pay $18 bucks and they always give you a free tanning lotion!! I bought a package with this company awhile ago, and although they were very expensive, the tanning was always decent even ig the wait and the staff was not. Not too long ago though, I went in to tan and I accidently left my diamond ring and earrings on one of the little tables next to my bed. As soon as I got to the street I realized and turned back. There was a girl cleaning the bed and my jewelry was gone. When I asked her where she put my jewelry she of course hadn't seen it. The managaer was a bumbling idiot and I have since filed a complaint with Better Business. If you have to tan do it somewhere where they have honest employees. Don't waste your time at other tanning salons (esp. Beach Bum - YUCK). At the UES location, staff are friendly & helpful, there's virtually no wait time & the place is immaculate. Plus: you don't need a degree in figuring out the sophistication of all the various types of tanning beds, because there's only one type, which is the GOOD one! Free Lotion, too! Originally from Ohio, I find it hard to find a reasonably priced tanning salon in NYC. I came across Solar salon and read nothing but good reviews about customers' experience with the service. Having not tanned in 2 months, I decided to try it out. Saying I was impressed with the experience would be an understatement. The service was quick and professional, and the tan looked incredible. Same here I don't know how Dapaul had a bad experience because this place is great, the girls are very nice & friendly and the new manager is the best (Rudy I think). The place is very clean and cozy it is not that big but comfortable enough, if there?s a wait it isn't long. The machines are great you get a tan after your first visit. The price on the package I got is $15 a session plus they give you a free lotion every time you come in there. I really recommend this place, not to mention that it is in a convenient area on the eastside. Pros: one of the best machins in the word. i look it up more

dapaul is not a reliable source. He/she obviously has no idea what he is talking about. The salon is extremely reputable, changes bulbs more often than any in the city (use caution!!) and the staff is extremely knowledgeable if you bother to talk to them! I have had nothing but positive experiences there both before and after the move, and the facility is IMPECCABLE!! Please disregard this obviously vindictive review and try the salon for yourself! I've been a client @ Solar Salon for a few years now. I must say that their business has drastically changed for the worse over the course of the last year. They are out of the way, not very polite and NOT knowledgeable AT ALL. they haven't changed their lamps in God knows how long .I was seriously burned there twice already. The last 5 times I went there, I received NO color and for the prices they ask, it is unacceptable. They fired the manager that used to make me WANT to come to Solar Salon. He cared about clients' needs. Now, they're suffering the consequences. In addition, I have found that while Beach Bum (just a few blocks away) may not have the decor, they have it where it counts, the equipment. Well i just moved into the upper east side and decided to explore the different tanning salons in the area to see which place would give me the best deals and color! I walked into Solar Salon on 2nd Ave between 81st and 82st and i have never been treated so well at a tanning salon in my life! First off they are very welcoming and every employee had a smile on their face. As soon as I told them I was a new customer, the sales person gave me a tour of the entire salon and explained the differences between all the machines! They analyzed my skin type to find out which machine would work best for me and give me the best color! They have a great promotion of your first free session with valid photo ID!! The sessions also never expire and they have been in business for 15 years giving me the confidence that they Know what they are talking about. It just can't get any better! They are very knowledgeable on their equipment and they offer free tanning lotions with every session and cleaness is an A plus! I got great color with just one session and was very pleased with the outcome! Great prices! Great deals! Stunning Tan! and definitely the right place to be!! Pros: Good prices, Great machines, Large Variety of lotions and machines, and Excellent Tan! Cons: none. I will be tanning there for many years to come. more

Thank God I finished my monthly package and got myself out of there! I have never had such an unpleasant tanning experience in all my years of tanning! It was a nightmare since I stepped foot inside. The sales people were not welcoming at all, they just wanted to get me in and out of there and didn't even explain how anything worked! I was fooled into buying this month package for like $70 that was such a waste of money. I had to go through the whole month to actually start seeing some color and that lotion they give you deserves to be free since their machines give you no color! They make their own lotion and that goes to show how good it can possibly be since the salon can't afford other lotions! I highly do not recommend this place. I've been an indoor tanner for years and I have never seen a place like this before. This is the most luxurious tanning salon ever!!! And the most amazing thing is...it's not expensive! The packages are very reasonable and they give you free lotion! I've never had a bad experience here and always come out with beautiful tans. The staff are very knowledgeable and nice. My experience at Solar was so negative that I am giving up about $70+ of prepaid tans rather than return. Management stated to me that Solar Salon has never refunded anyone's money under any terms, even money paid up front for services not rendered. I will not return because I experienced a bad burn in <5 minutes, over 2 minutes less than the Solar rep's recommendations. Fortunately, I jumped out of the bed at the first sign that something was wrong. My suggestion for others is to seek a second opinion regarding length of recommended tan before proceeding. more

I have been tanning here for over 4 years, and their beds are the best anywhere. They have 6 beds and 3 stand ups. The beds are low pressure so you don't get that fake orange/red tan look. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. They show you how to use the beds, how to turn on/off fans and lights. The bed rooms are spacious so you don't feel cramped, and there is a cool frosted door when you hit the switch privacy is yours. The place overall is extremely clean. One tip you want to try your best to avoid peak times which on the weekend start after the bruch crowd is done, but if you don't mind waiting then experience this place ASAP. What I enjoy most about being a client at Solar Salon, is the great tan I receive in 10 to 15 minutes. Their equipment is the best tanning equipment I have experienced. The employee's become familiar faces if your a regular customer and they are always pleasant and helpful! The salon seems to want you to know the smart way of how to use the service. They always are concnered about how often and how long you are exposeing your self.
