Disappointing example of service 6/27/2009

Regardless of what bar/pub/club you go into, you don't expect to be refused service after only a couple of beers. Unfortunately for me, thats what happened at Slims. Now I know it's not because they thought I was drunk, because after the first barman made a point of serving those around me then finding something else to do instead of take my money, he told me he was too busy to serve me and I should go to the other end of the bar. I took his advice and went to the other guy who was pleasant..... at first. He served me 4 or 5 beers, then had a chat to the other barman, came back and served everyone but me. Again I waited patiently, not bothered by the fact that others were being served before me. Then quite bluntly and without reason, the barman told me "I'm not serving you anymore" and walked away. As you could imagine this would confuse anyone and made me very angry especially since I was not behaving badly in any way. I was keeping quiet, I didn't talk to anyone and was there to have a drink and enjoy watching Rodriguez play. I took it in stride and forgot about it for the rest of the night. I'm Australian and have never been refused service in any pub/club or ANY establishment that serves alcohol regardless of how I may have looked or been dressed. Friday night at Slims I was wearing near new jeans and a jacket. There were others there that looked worse than I did, but they got served all night. All I can say is that Slims at 333 11th St, San Francisco is a terrible excuse for a club. I've never been to a place where they take a dislike to you like the barmen at this establishment. I was really looking forward to a good night. Fortunately Rodriguez more than made up for the poor excuse of service and attitude in there. I gave it a rating of 1 only because it wouldn't let me leave it blank. Utterly disappointed, Kelvin Garner Pros: The door guys were cool Cons: bar staff more

One of my favorite places to see live Music 11/22/2007

I Love Slim's. I've seen Rx Bandits,Gym Class Heroes (twice), Bayside,The Pack, Cobra Starship, & The Fall of Troy all at Slim's. Slim's is small, but not too small. Its small enough to get really close to band & perhaps meet them after the show. It can get really hot, especially if you like to be as close to the stage as possible. Dress light. Everytime I go I'm front and center up against the stage, trust me you will be packed like sardines. No moshing or crowd surfing allowed they're liable to kick you out. Although, if youre lucky they will just leave you with a warning. If you plan to smoke some ganja, be discreet. They'll try to flash their little flashlights to find the culprit, just hold the joint or blunt down and look around pretending to find the source. Pros: Intimacy, Price of shows range from $15-$25 Cons: Kinda Hot & Sweaty depending on how many people are there & how close you are to all of them more

Packed, but fun 5/15/2002

For bigger-name acts, Slim's gets absolutely jammed -- to the point of not being to move, get a drink, etc. It's smaller than you'd think. But the music is always good. And parking's not too bad at night. Pros: Great tunes Cons: Jam-packed more

  • In Short
Opened in 1988, Slim's was the brainchild of San Francisco's Boz Scaggs. It's a great place to see rock and hip-hop acts that aren't quite popular enough to play large concert halls. The space is a big, open room with a stage at one end, and is cozily appointed with an L-shaped bar, chandeliers, small rear balcony and brick walls inspired by New Orleans manors.
