Sky Room

I have been going to LB for years to find fun places and this one warrented a review. If you like a place with a view then look no further. It's at the top of the Breakers hotel and has the best view on LB! You have to go in the evening and watch the sunset. Pros: AWESOME VIEW AND WINE LIST! The art deco was amazing and the UP lounge has the best drinks and view. I finally had the chance to make over to the sky room the other night. Good thing i didnt listen to the previous reviews. It was amazing. I started off in the restaurant for dinner where the staff was outstanding. More then expected, i also heard this place was expensive when i didnt think it was. i was informed that they have recently changed the menu. Duck Prosciutto was amazing. The sommelier was very helpful in choicing a wine to pair well with the meal. The music was good. The rooftop bar or as they call it UP lounge was a great way to end the night. They have great drinks on the rooftop and there was a DJ playing some great music, so much fun. I think that the sky room is really different now then it used to be. My experience was absolutly awesome. Cant wait to return. I would highly reccommend it to anyone. I live in long beach and there is no reason to go to Hollywood anymore. From start to finish this experience was unforgetable. This place has it all; great food, romatic setting, live music that you can actually dance to, and service that was far beyond belief. And I must give credit to the sky room for making me look good in front of my date. I highly recommend this restaurant a hidden gem in the long beach skyline. Do not waste your money. I have never been treated as poorly as I was at the SkyRoom. I have never reviewed a single place I have gone to, but feel so strongly about my experience at this restaurant, I decided to write a review. Pros: I never have to go back Cons: everthing. service, attitude of all personnel, tirade by waiter, 2.5 hour tardiness in honoring reservations, follow through on promises, and everything else. more

I can't say enough of how awful this place was. We hosted a dinner for several dozen there and it was in the BASEMENT OF A RETIREMENT HOME! I was embarassed, the service was awful (I had to get up and serve wine to clients around the room). Needless to say I do not recommend nor would I ever go to this establishment again. I can't speak to the view for I was in the basement of a building eating at a place called the ""Sky Room"" - go figure? Once wasn't enough for me. I was foolish, thought the first time was an anomaly. It wasn't, the food is average, overpriced and the staff was rude and snobish. Better food within walking distance, I am going there. more

I have to reiterate the point of the previous reviewer: the management at the Skyroom are the rudest people I've ever been forced to give my money to. It's hard to believe but it's true. We planned our wedding there and were prepared to have a beautiful event at a beautiful place. Throughout the planning experience, the General Manager and the man who works for him (Floor Manager?) were constantly rude to us and soooo condescending. It was as if they were doing us a favor by allowing us have our event there (and pay them almost $15000!). On several occasions the GM actually called me yelling and berating me because I had the nerve to complain about things (oh? like them missing appointments!) His final call to me ? 2 days before my wedding ? was to tell me I ?pushed the final button? and he was cancelling me wedding. We had to find another venue in TWO days! Oh, and they charged us all the money! (btw: use the Long Beach Renaissance for any event -- they are amazing!!) This was one of the worst experiences I have had in a long time. First off, the floor manager was extremely rude from the minute we walked in. He gave us a look up & down as if we weren't dressed properly or meeting his standards...it was ubelievable.. It was so uncomfortable that we almost left within 2 minutes of being there. Once we sat down it took us about 15 minutes to get some water. We then ordered a bottle of white wine which by the end of the meal was warm because they didn't keep it chilled for us. The bread was cold & stale. The steak was mediocre & the tuna was bland. We then asked the waitress for a good port wine that would go well with chocolate....she didn't know. The meal cost us over $200 and I have spent less @ Christy's or McKenna's on the Bay and had a much more enjoyable experience. Oh, and the floor manager continued to look @ us in an uncomfortable way the whole entire meal. more

We went to the Sky Room for a romantic dinner for two. We hated it! The staff was rude and inattentive. We waited over 2 hours for a piece of bread and a salad. When we questioned where our meal was, the staff got very defensive. After almost 3 hours, our food was served luke warm and was average at best. We could not wait to leave this place. It was one of our worst dining experiences in the country. We paid over $200 for 2 of us. There are much better places to eat on Long Beach. This place would be last on our list. Went to the Sky Room for a group (12 people) celebration Christmas weekend. I heard great things and was excited to dine at the restaurant. Unfortunately, the view from the bar before dinner was the last enjoyable moment of the evening more

This place is fantastic. I have been there with half a dozen dates on so many evenings I cannot count them. Great dancing. I am featuring this night club in the current book that I am writing. Don't miss visiting the rooftop! Dress formal and you will feel very comfortable. The staff is very friendly. This is the place for elegant family meals or a high school graduation dinner -upscale. more

I've been to this place for....ah....soooo many times, I lost count! Everything in the menu is GREAT taste! If you love live bigband/swing music, this is the place. Love the ambience, love the music, and again, love the food! I've tried other places, but my standard is already set on Skyroom and nothing compares! Great value too! I LOVE SKYROOM! more

Good food, but because they prepare a majority of the food at your table things get really stalled when the place gets crowded. In addition, they really try fitting a lot of tables into the place so there isn't much walking room once they start wheeling those carts around. The service was really slow when I visited. But as I said before, really good food! And the place has great atmosphere once you get up there. The restaurant is on top of a senior living center (that's what the 20 or so other floor are made of) but a trip through the lobby of the ""home"" is avoided by entering the restaurant through the building's side entrance. more
