GREAT experience 10/12/2011

I've now had numerous manicures and pedicures here and Wendy is fantastic, as are the polish choices -- not the usual selection -- here they have Chanel, YSL, Butter etc. and none of the polishes look old and goopy. Today I had an Epicuran facial. Vivian was fantastic. She told me exactly what she was doing all along the way. The products didn't irritate my skin at all and my face looks great now. She didn't push any products on me, although I will probably be back to buy some because my skin feels so good. This place is expensive but worth it. I've been to all the big name spas in New York (and other places) but I really like the private and low key environment of this one. more

Quiet, Calm and Private - Personalized services 3/9/2009

If you are tired of treatments with all kinds of sweet fruit smells and scolding aestheticians who push products, this is the place to try. The loft space is so modern , clean and you get your own private room with shower! The facials are so relaxing no steam blowing in your face - they use a warm towel treatment instead. The products are european some not available anywhere else in nyc. The treatments can be customized for your needs and the attention of the staff is really warm and person. Try it - it's no more expensive than other spas but definitely a better experience. The aesthetician I worked with helped me pick a few products to go with what I had at home - it was great. more

You don't need to spend 200 bucks to have your face picked at and creamed over. 6/30/2008

I've had a lot of facials and let's, um, face it: no matter how much they cost, you pretty much end up with the same results. Your pores will look and feel clean for a few weeks, you'll drop a silly amount of money on whatever product the facialist is pushing that month and for what? I've been to many of the famous skin care places in the city and this one was better than average but not worth the money. The women were nicer and less pushy than Christine Chin (awful) and classier than Mario Badescu but then again, MB charges around $60 for a facial with extractions--which is all anyone really wants--and here it's more like $160!!! And that's to be politely chastised the whole time about my facial regimen and told I needed to buy different products. They picked some black heads, slathered on a bunch of different layers of creams and gave a mediocre massage. I say overrated. Pros: Friendly staff, carries Epicuren products Cons: Way overpriced, not totally convinced the staff is honest about their advice more

beats Bliss! 10/9/2007

I have been going to Jackie (Jacqueline) here for 6 months and i LOVE her. One of the things that drew me to this place was the fact that it was established by a dermatologist. My first visit was extraordinary and it gets better each time. My skin has been looking amazing and they spend so much time with you. You even get a hand and foot massage--which is always nice. It's clean, professional and the rooms make you feel so relaxed. It's in the same building as the SoHo Bliss and i feel that the personal treatment you receive here is so much better than Bliss, as well as the quality of the facials. There is no product pushing--although they do have amazing brands they carry. I love everything about this place. It's not as cheap, but after trying to "shop" facials, you just can't do it (or you end up at a place like Mario Badescu (read my review there)). Jackie usually gives me the hydrating facial, which always leaves my skin exfoliated and soft. They don't use steam here either--they put on a cream and then use hot towels to open up your pores. Again, 100% recommended for anyone searching for an amazing facial, personal service and friendly and professional staff. Pros: facial menu, friendly staff, clean Cons: not cheap but worth the money more

Men feel comfortable here! 9/14/2007

Great spot, great architecture ... I finally found the spa where as a man I can feel comfortable. Loved the massage for the back. Facials are great (Thank you so much Viviane!). And very convenient when you work Downtown. I come back every 3 to 4 weeks ... ! Bryan. Pros: Facials, product selection, location, architecture Cons: Addictive more

Eh 2/1/2006

I went in to get a fairly basic (read: less expensive) facial, the Deep Cleansing. After telling me how good my skin is, the facialist suggested I get the more expensive Oxygen facial "because I'll definitely get what I pay for." After what seemed like a lot of just rubbing in creams, she did a few extractions (what I came for in the first place), gave a weak, mediocre shoulder massage, and rubbed in a few more creams. That was it. Sure, my face looked good afterwards, but no lasting results. However, they do have a large selection of products. Pros: clean modern space Cons: pushy sales, not very thorough more

Great Facial, Fantastic Facility 8/24/2005

I received the Oxygen Facial. They did a spectacular job. I came out looking very fresh. Even with an extraction, I didn't come out looking like a lobster. I didn't break out at all the next day. Included in my facial was a complimentary foot massage. The place (like someone said earlier) makes you feel like you are alone. Which I thought was so relaxing. There is a private shower stall in your treatment room which is great too...don't need to travel around the spa in your robe. I highly recommend this place. Pros: Facial, Atmosphere Cons: Expensive more

Fresh and soft! 7/25/2005

Nothing tees me off like a snotty ny spa whr the staff think they are better than those coming in to use their services. So, I was incredibly surprised when I walked into the minimalist world of skincarelab to be greeted by cheeriness and excellent, knowledgeable service. Yes, the facials are a tad expensive but I floated away after feeling refreshed with a face SO soft. Go here, if you have the choice. Pros: calming atmosphere, knowledgeable staff Cons: expensive more

A hidden treasure 3/7/2005

Unlike other spas with lots of buzz and fuzz, Skincare lab is the real thing. Modern, sleek, clean and most of all, very professional. You can certainly tell it is a truly managed by dermatologists. The staff is amazing... not pusy, not overwhelming... just plain nice, which is great actually. The facials are great and you can actually "feel" the quality of the products they use on yor face. Even if the staff "suggest" you to buy any product at the end of your treatment, you feel as if they were just giving you a friendly advice. In any case, hope this place continues delivering such an outstanding service. more

I was impressed 11/5/2003

I do have quite a lot of facials and I thought this was right up there. The beauty therapist was great, reception was quick and friendly. It was a little expensive but it was worth the money -- not easy to find in NYC!! And there was no overkill suggest sell -- I kept being told, "finish what you have and then we can think about X." Pros: no suggest sell, skin felt good after, quiet nice atmosphere Cons: expensive more

Eh ... it was okay 7/11/2003

I personally do not get a lot of facials and I wasn't all that impressed - for the money.. Got the same results doing it at home using my green mask.. Not worth the money to me. more

Best Facial in New York 4/10/2003

I get facials on a regular basis, both in NYC and in LA, and the "SkinCareLab Facial" is the most thorough, cleansing, soothing experience I have had. This one particular facial is pretty expensive, but it is addictive! Nicest staff, extremely talented estheticians, and a soothing environment (the decor is beautiful, although a little cold feeling). Highly, highly recommended. Pros: efective treatments, talented staff, soothing atmosphere Cons: some prices are high more

The Best! 11/14/2002

This is the only place (and I have tried many) where I leave looking clean and clear after a facial with extractions. My super sensitive skin has never looked better (not even when I was taking antibiotics to clear it up). You must try the Karin Herzog Oxygen Facial and the Epicuren (SkinCareLab) facial- you will not regret it! Not to mention, the environment makes you feel like the only person on earth and the staff is very caring. more

Like a spa in your own home 9/13/2002

I love this place. It feels like you're the only one there. The facial was AWESOME. I mean, they're serious here. Overall, I really enjoyed most everything about it. more

Editorial
  • The Scene
On the advice of a devotee--Ms. Sarah Jessica Parker--dermatologist Dr. Bradford Katchen flew to California to check out the Epicuren skin-care line. He was so impressed that he opened SkinCareLab, the only day spa on the East Coast with the products. Sleek and minimal, yet still welcoming, the spa is one floor up from the doctor's practice--in the same Soho spot as well-known beauty sanctuary Bliss.

    The Services
Results-oriented facials for all skin types: Masks include seaweed, self-heating and marine, with glycolic, oxygen and eye treatment add-ons available. The excellent SkinCareLab Facial uses customized Epicuren treatments and tingly hand-mixed masks, plus hand and foot massages. Body treatments include a heavenly grape-seed scrub (all-over exfoliation, warm shower and light hydrating massage), mud and seaweed wraps and a citrus polish. Also find massage, full-body waxing and nail services (overseen by a podiatrist).
