About two weeks ago, my fiancee and I went on a double date with some friends. We wanted to get dinner at Sushi Love, but when we arrived, we learned there was nearly an hour wait for a table. We were too hungry to wait, so we decided to head next door and try out Six Plates, which we'd always discussed visiting but never actually made it there.
The atmosphere in Six Plates is pretty neat, with several high tables, a bar, and lots of comfy couches and chairs around low coffee tables and side tables.
We ordered glasses of wine at the bar, and selected some of that nights ""six plates"" to try.
We got the wine quickly. I was pretty disappointed by the wine menu. For a place that is billed as being a wine bar, the wine menu wasn't very long or diverse.
The food took a long time to get to us, and when it finally arrived, we were all blown away by how small the portions were. We were expecting a tapas-type experience with small plates, but what we got was beyond miniscule. Our cheese plate had 3 tiny chunks of cheese, a smidge of honey, and one single grape (cut in half!). The other food was so unmemorable that I can't even recall what we ordered.
After we left, we went to another place because we were still hungry, and didn't want to spend any more money on teensy tiny portions. I would have had to eat about ten of their plates in order to get full! I won't be returning there, and I won't be recommending the place to my friends.
Pros: Location; atmosphere
Cons: Expensive; wine selection
